That hum is an A/C hum. check the polarity and grounding on your outlet with a circuit tester. If you have florescent lights you are probably compounding the problem. I have replace my shop lights with 4' LED strips.
Just ordered the Vox earlier and was getting worried when the static came up. I'm relieved it doesn't happen with the batteries in. It really won't bother me much just playing at home, but I'd hate it if it did that while performing.
I would have loved to hear both with more gain so we can hear how they distort. Also with magnetic pickups as mentioned before. Otherwise great video. Thanks!
I just got a VOX Mini5 and I'll be very interested to see and hear your sonic explorations. I just went from GBD 026, 017, 013 to EBE 042, 036, 026 on my slide CBG and made a definite improvement in the richness of the tone. LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.
I have the Roland cube and also the Roland Steet EX. Both are very good. It seems that the Vox and Fender amps have more effects drums etc. The results from piezzo picks are limited I think and the real power of the amps come to life with a magnetic pick up. A face face off with those would be interesting. Thanks . Sentinel Guitars Bozeman MT.
Hi Del, I agree with David Perkins' comment. I know it's not the same comparison, but I have a Vox VT40+ (mains only) and a Roland Micro Cube. On piezo equipped cbg's the Vox hums & howls especially on high volumes, the Roland is fine. If I first plug into a "standalone" pre-amp I built, the Vox is fine too. Mag pickups work fine on both.
The audio goes into either a direct out or is picked up by whatever flavor microphone you are using during recording and then reproduced on our end by many different methods. In my case I cast the video to my TV and the audio is coming out of some tiny flat screen TV speakers. Your personal opinion may be more important due to these constraints. I have not tried a Roland Micro cube but I love all my other Roland gear. I also have an early 60's Vox amp that blows my 60's Fender twin reverb away with it's bright color and at the same time, warm tone. It will be interesting to see which amp is more versatile.
@@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar they are modeled after the same amp. It is famous for blues players using it. I scored a few vintage fender amps in high school because other kids didn't know what they were. One kids mom refused to charge more than $25 for a vibrochamp because it was "old"
Hello Dell. I reckon the VOX is more; "trebly/brighter" than the Roland, which may account for its higher sensitivity to interference pick-up. I always have to keep my 3-stringer CBG, (with its Piezo pick-up), well away from my VOX amp to avoid feedback, etc! It may be worth trying a re-run, using a Magnetic Pick-up instead. Those little Piezos are sensitive little critters! Take care, all...! P.S I have my Gain set to 10-O'clock to prevent the Amp from getting; "all excited"!.....😉...😉...!
Great review 😁 I have both and put an 8inch speaker from a small bass combo into the vox.. then the 6.5 from the vox into the micro cube 👌 they're great little amps!
Sounds just like I wanted Del!!!Looks great.I went and ordered the Roland last night.I think it sounds richer.Anway, great job and keep em com'in.Laurel
That neck doesn't get wider as it goes up towards the body. Why do guitar necks have to get wider as they go up? You've proven they work fine without doing so, ..but do you know why all other guitars are always designed this way? ..your thoughts?
personally… i always try to taper my necks to get thinner (not narrower) as you move towards the headstock… it just “feels” right. that’s my opinion anyway
"do you know why all other guitars are always designed this way?" So that you have more space between the strings for picking at the bridge end. I have a five string bass and a six string ukulele. They are both harder to play than their four string stable mates because they are a bit cramped to pick. If the strings were parallel they'd be too wide at the nut and too tight at the bridge. TLDR; Ergonomics. 🙂

its ground hum from the mains methinks

What he said.
Yup with the compressor on it was unbearable..
Came for the amp comparison, subscribed for the Cigar Box Guitars.
I have the Vox amp ! I really like it :D

Otherwise great video. Thanks!
The guitar sounds great, maybe 50 - 60hz mains hum from the Vox...which looks fantastic but the clean sound of MC Roland is leading the dance.

Dude !!! you got it going on!!!!
I have an a/c adapter for my Microcube and it hums as well, so I generally only run it on batteries.
My experience is that if your instrument is picking up 60 cycle hum it will also do so if you use the micro cube with line power.

Have 2 Roland Micro and 1 Pig Nose. All battey powered never been plugged in. My stuff is old and beat up. Love this video.
I like the roland the best 👌

Love LT @ And We KnoW! Great review. I'm buying the Roland
INteresting! No telling who or what is inside those boxes... #312 sounds great. Love the richness with the heavier strings!

Black is usually for the old black face fender bassman amp.
I just thought they might be similar models... sounded pretty close to me...

good watch thanx

Very cool man, so you can plug in the vox to the wall and not use batteries or is batteries only? Thank you

Super wow!
..a cigar box guitar is just a guitar without the ego. 🤷
So which is better for play outdoor? Thanxx
they're both the same

I use the vox for my cbg it has better setting . at least I think so
Poke your eyes out on those untamed strings!
"..just grow your beard out a little more and join ZZTop, ..why not. ..?" 🤷
60 cycle hum.
IF THE Vox had britt combo and black panel i say wow... or micro cube whit setting drums i say wow😺😂
Roland slight edge but vox 5 has way more to it
The Vox is a punk rock amp, lol.
Vox лучше, вот. Я так думаю.
Cut those strings before you put out an eye!!
i see your point !!!
@@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar Thanks for the test by the way. I love your hanging solution for the guitar. Simple and elegant.
