    Saw you wrapping the plane pipes and balance tube but didn,t see you swap them out for the drag/shotgun pipes,that would have been good to watch.

    IDK about the WD40 on grips, sounds like an accident waiting to happen. I would recommend using hairspray or an air compressor.

    • @dakotajohnson6472
      @dakotajohnson6472 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I second this! I was like holy shot WD-40??? I use clear spray paint. Slips on easy when it’s wet and then dries like glue.

    • @Joey_McElroy
      @Joey_McElroy หลายเดือนก่อน

      WD-40 for the grips work great. I’ve probably done dozens and dozens of grips with WD-40. No issues ever in any way….if it works it ain’t stupid. The WD takes a couple minutes and it dries out internally and the grips hold. I actually just did this to some new bars just yesterday. Rode the bike to and from work…no problems at all.

    the paint didn't even look that bad. you could have probably just buffed it a bit.

      @@benjaminnarez7530 a build is more like a total make over keeping only the motor but its all good it starts by swapping some cosmetics and the more ya learn the more brazen ya get before ya know it ya'll be cuttin hardtails n boring out your motor

    • @Joey_McElroy
      @Joey_McElroy หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@benjaminnarez7530a lot of folks would consider that line of being a parts swap to a build by means of when you chop the frame for making it a hardtail. But personally if your changing bars, grips, headlight, a seat, different tank, or different air cleaner. I generically would just call it a build ya know. Especially if the bike doesn’t even resemble what the bike started as. Chop what you got

    I've found hairspray ideal for grips. Spray heavily inside the grip, jam them on and once the spray dries, it'll help jeep the grips in place.

      Hi, thank you and best of luck on your build.

  • @jeskohelms304
    @jeskohelms304 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So boys and girls, you can spend $1000 to bolt on a bunch of pretties onto an 883 and at the end of the day you are still riding an 883 while $1000 lighter in the pocket. Build, don't buy.

    • @twopencemoto4759
      @twopencemoto4759  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s a valid point. The point here was more to show what you can do to a bike that’s often been labeled as a “girls bike” and written off as too slow (which it sort of is). If you can get a good price on a 1200 sporty that’s for sure the way to go. BUT, an 883 isn’t the worst thing ever & I’m having a lot of fun with it.

    • @jeskohelms304
      @jeskohelms304 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@twopencemoto4759 I get it man, everyone starts somewhere, with that said, 883 to 1200 conversion is not as intimidating as it may seem, food for thought.

    • @jeskohelms304
      @jeskohelms304 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And let me add that somewhere along the line, Sportsters in general have become defined as "chic bikes" and I could not disagree more. I own several, all HD including an '04 Electra Glide, '88 Superglide and custom built chopper but nothing beats jumping on the Sporty and bangin' around.

    • @johnpicard366
      @johnpicard366 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think one of the follow on comments nailed my thoughts, sportsters are certainly a very versatile bike. They are affordable so there is a stigma of it being great “first bike”, but I think it’s a fun little bike regardless, I have a 1200 sporty and sure it’s not my twin cam softail in regards to power, but it’s not meant to be. It’s a fun bar hopper and bobber, and as probably the most customizable Harley in regards to aftermarket parts. If you can afford multiple bikes, why not? I’m about to drop a whole lot more than $1k into my sporty and I’m pumped about it!

    A true build is when you start with basically nothing. You design the frame, the motor and all components. Allot of guys will buy a used bike and add parts to make what they like. Nothing fabricated and built by hand. Take Jesse James for instance, he does a true build. Now you can “build a bike using pre faves parts and it will be unique and different but a true build is from zero.

    I realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but these are my thoughts.
    1) I have always liked the Harley factory esthetic. I like the original handlebars better then those T bars. I am pretty sure the grips it came with were not original, but I liked them better then the replacements.
    2) I noticed that there was a lot of oxidation on the chrome. I would have attempted to deal with that.
    3) The seat has the pretense of having space for a passenger. Have some poor girl ride on the back for 15 minutes and ask how she feels about the seat. The old passenger backrest looked more passenger friendly as well.
    4) I like the look of fenders. I realize that shortening or removing them has a more bobber look, but I am not a bobber kind of guy. Besides, when you hit a mudpuddle or two, you might realize why they are there.
    5) Replacing the exhaust pipes with straight pipes certainly makes it LOUDER. And slower. The illusion of power is not power. Ask what your neighbors feel about straight pipes. It also means that if you want to keep your hearing, you will need earplugs.
    6) Does the amber headlight make as much light as the original? Do the new turn signals?
    7) I am tired of everything that has a skull on it.
    My last point is that everything on a bike has a function. Replacing anything with with something else that looks good in your opinion but doesn't function as well is counterproductive. Of course, these are only my opinions. I have a 1200 Sportster which is box stock. I plan to keep it that way.
