    I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia, and I find most people tend to think how it works is you just have bad episodes every once and a while and then go on with your every day life. But its not! Psychotic disorders aren't an on and off thing, they can affect your every day life

    • @gnarthdarkanen7464
      @gnarthdarkanen7464 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Only some of (not all) the symptoms can be an "on and off" thing... More often, it's an "ebb and flow" thing so there are worse and better days, but no particular good days where it's clear and you can just be lucid. ;o)

      Schizophrenia isn't like that yea. I don't have it but I did research a while back and I'm sure people with it go on with there days and have like an episode every day(let me explain) like they wake like a normal person and eat breakfast or do what they do. They a voice will talk in they're head, stop and/ or something like the tv will talk and its kind of stuff like that (I'm trying to make I'm not offending anyone with it I'm sowwy lol)

    I was diagnosed with psychotic disorder by a psychiatrist back when I was 12 years old (I'm 28 now) and yeah, I remember having all of these signs before the diagnosis. Especially the delusions and the disorganized thinking. I had to take anti-psychotic pills for almost all of my teen years (Risperidone, in this case) up until recently when I had to change it for Quetiapine, and thanks to my psychiatrist, I don't really need'em anymore.

    Could you do a video covering different types of hallucinations? I've heard there are hallucinations that make you feel things (like getting hit in the face or something). To be honest, the reason why I got so interested in psychology was because of this channel. When i saw the video about MD, and noticed i had all the signs, that got me intrested in mental health and disorders and all that, since then I've been watching videos, looking up stuff about disorders, just because i find all that interesting. I've recently also have been thinking of becoming a psychologist, but I'm not really the type person who is extroverted and likes to help around. I mean, i love to help, but i just feel so uncomfortable, so i feel like i wont really do well as a psychologist, either way, thanks alot for helping me find a new interest ^^

    A childhood friend of mine had after severe drug abuse developed a severe psychosis. I wasnt befriended before it developed with him anymore, so I rarely met saw him anymore and didnt knew how bad it was at first.
    One day through, he randomly appeared at the house of another friend of mine. I will never forget this expirience in my entire life. He was talking about the weirdest stuff, switched to random topics and wasnt acting like how I knew him at all. He also run away from home to live on the street and robbed my friends pocket.
    I only knew about psychosis from movies and such, but seing the effects myself on a former friend on mine showed me how crippling it can be.
    After years of struggle with treatment he luckiely is doing much better and finally seems like himself again, but I will never forget the impact of a psychosis on ones life and I am sorry for everyone who struggles with it, but it atleast also showed me that even so severe disorders may get managable with proper treatment

  • @himanirawat5

    A lot of people vilify people experiencing psychotic symptoms or use it very lightly calling anyone psychotic so easily, I know it's because of lack of awareness but it hurts a little. People who experience psychosis have done nothing to be vilified like this, they just can't control it. I deleted my comment many times because I wasn't so sure if I should post what I'm going to but here I am anyway.
    Guys, i hope none of you self diagnose yourselves now. This video is helpful for you in making a decision whether or not you should see a therapist and eliminate the underlying problem altogether but it's definitely not something you should take lightly and joke about. It's a hell hole. Everyday feels like a nightmare. For example if you think oh I think I have this because I think everyone is out to get me, ok you should think about getting some help, talk to the psychologist and take it from there but a person with psychotic disorder very rarely has this rational thought of making the decision to see a therapist because everything they are thinking at this point is BIZARRE, intricately connected and very real to them, there's no way they are the ones who got it wrong, they will doubt even the closest person to them like their best friend or their mom just because they observed a change of tone in their sound? and their conclusion would be *my mom has been sent here to kill me* and they will HARDLY tell anyone about the whole experience because in their head some unknown forces would harm them if they do or they just never feel the need to. If you think you're experiencing grandiose delusions, please know that it's not a simple I'm the best or I'm better than everyone else or believing in superstitious stuff. It is more *oh my god, the forest is burning, the fire in the woods is all my fault, the floods in Japan oh no, everything is my fault because???? I AM GOD. Oh let's turn on the tv and see if I can get any updates about myself because I have a feeling I can. Oh god everyone is talking about me, how do they know this, where did they receive this information from, is the government stalking me, have they installed camera at my place? oh I see everything clearly now, oh shit everyone is reading about me on their WhatsApp, why are they smiling, can they read my thoughts, can they read what I'm thinking of right now* Apparently every channel knows about your life and is invading your privacy and the higher authorities have cameras installed in your laptop or home to check on you. And delusions??? well there's no end to this for example *maybe the reason I'm feeling so weird lately is because my phone's battery is not charged OH I HAVE FOUND THE CONNECTION, my phone is dead that's why I'm dead too, I need to charge my ph- wait I have to tell everyone to charge their phones so everyone survives. MOM CHARGE YOUR PHONE I UNDERSTAND EVERY THING NOW, JUST CHARGE YOUR PHONE THAT'S WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT IN THAT BTS VIDEO WHERE V IS TRAPPED IN A DARK PLACE AND THERE ARE PHONES EVERYWHERE AND HE SAYS SAVE ME because cell phones will be the death of us if we don't charge them, THEY SAW IT COMING BUT NOBODY UNDERSTOOD and NOW I'M SEEING IT COMING* and it's not a joke, you're dead serious at the time. It's horrifying. You find yourself connecting the smallest event of your life with another. You probably won't even be able to talk to the therapist and speak about the things you're going through because you're still psychotic and it's all very real to you but the therapist will know looking at your behaviour. So you see? It's not all that simple but yes the earlier you seek out help, the better and none of this is their fault so stop saying things like oh I'm so psychotic or ABC is a psychotic piece of trash, it's insensitive. And if you think you know anyone who is psychotic, please be kind to them and listen to them without any judgement. Psychosis is very complex than you think it is. ok goodbye, Take care everyone🌻

    I was diagnosed with psychotic disorder when I was 17, and later I was diagnosed with schizophrenia.
    The signs of schizophrenia that I used to show are delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, catatonic excitement, and memory problems. Even nowadays, I sometimes struggle with speaking and memory problems. I didn’t typically exhibit catatonia (being still & stiff) or decreased emotional expression; I still show a lot of emotions and move around sometimes excessively to the point that I can’t stay still.
    I have been through hallucinations and delusions. One time, when I was in Puerto Rico in my grandma’s apartment, I was looking at the balcony, and I hallucinated when I heard a deep voice say “Jump off.” It was really scary, and obviously I didn’t do it because I am still alive and standing. Another time, I had a delusion that I could shapeshift like Beast Boy and turn into different animals, so I started eating grass like a cow and leaves off a tree like a giraffe. Yeah, delusions and hallucinations really suck when they happen.
    Disorganized speech also includes going off on tangents, like I just did now. Lol

    i cant tell the difference between persecutory delusions or anxiety. i often have a hard time sleeping at night because i have a feeling that someone maybe a serial killer or smth might be standing right next to my bed or right outside my bedroom door when i go to sleep. but lately i haven't feeling that much now since i've been taking antipsychotics.

    • @chromberries7329
      @chromberries7329 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't have the full context, nor am I entitled to it, but if you're taking antipsychotics maybe they are delusions.
      However, I also get paranoid at night thinking that I left the door unlocked, or a window, or someone's going to break in while I'm sleeping etc... but I don't think it's related to psychosis.

They can be small things like someone saying a couple of words or something hitting something else, or it can be big things that a lot of the time wake me up like screams and exlposions.

    The examples of hallucinations you gave are actually more advanced forms that only show when you are already further in the process of becoming psychotic or being aware of your psychotic behaviour. The first signs of the hallucination symptom in psychoses are actually being startled by something only to wonder what made you startled (also applies to other types of feelings you structurally can't connect to a source), and seeing something like a snake that becomes more and more like the tree branche it actually is after looking at it more closely.
    The counteract to these hallucinations when it stems from psychoses, is to observe it without immediately acting on what you observed. The acts you choose in any situation are based on your judgment of what you observed and what stimulated you to make a decision. So you need to give the information you received from the observation more time to get processed correctly, before you are able to choose a befitting reaction.
