WOW! I LOVE YOUR 1978 MODEL CB-750A. I HAVE ONE TOO ( BLUE AND GOLD) AND AM CONVINCED THEY ARE GREAT.I HAVE ABOUT 5,000 MILES AND IT WAS IN A GOOD LONG TERM STORAGE FOR NEARLY 30 YEAR WHEN I BOUGHT IT. IT SHOWS VERY NICELY LIKE YOURS. I WENT RIGHT THROUGH IT WITH CARB CLEANING , TUNE-UP, ETC, LOVE THE FAIRING AND SADDLEBAGS. MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THAT ITS KINDA HEAVY TO GET ON THE STANDS. THEY SURE ARE NICE THOUGH!
I have the exact same bike. Mine is a 1977 and blue color. 😎. I enjoy it every chance I get to ride. I do shift out of the lower gear to the second once it gets to about 30-40MPH.
@@dirkdiggler2695 very heavy, think feels like a tank, im 5”11 and about 230 pounds, i sweat pushing it up my drive way, havent gotten a chance to ride it, little bit of electrical issues i gotta straighten out first
inspiring video. why aren’t there more automatics I wonder ? in my 60s with trigger finger on the left hand so genuinely interested in the Hondamatic option.
The production #’s through the years were low, perhaps 8000 produced. Attrition through the years has whittled away that #. Occasionally (and presently) they show up on EBay motors, and parts on EBay. Good hunting!
Great review . Thank you. I e heard that the 750 hondamatic can suffer from a rattle on start up which clears quickly. Have you heard about this ? Thank you. Lee
Hey Al, great vid. There is a 1977 for sale near me and was thinking of getting it. I have never ridden a motorcycle so it would be my first bike. Do you think it'd be a decent first bike or bad idea? thanks
These are rare, a opportunity not to be missed, even if mucky and not running, it can still be cleaned up and placed underneath the flat screen TV as alternative decor. Also get a 250cc machine and ride it around to where you have developed some skill. In the mean time while you are becoming a good motorcyclist, you can find someone to help you/do the maintenance required to have it running for the day of your 1st ride. Another thing Honda doesn’t sell parts, so if you break/wear something out, it takes a bit of searching to find bits, so this will be a cool cherished ride for occasions, mine are retired now for antique bike club events where if it’s far, I use a trailer, as do folks who own 1969 sand cast 750’s(who rarely start them)
I had a 400 hondamatic in 1978, easy to ride light, and had great gas mileage. I was stationed in Hawaii I used it just about every day for 3 years. It was a great bike, yes I would buy one now if I could find one.
Nicely done video 👍🏼👍🏼. A coworker was just gifted one of these from an uncle. It’s a ‘77. Hasn’t seen daylight since the early 80s. Hell yeah I volunteered to help with the revival 🤣 He’s still uncertain what he wants to do with it, besides getting it running. My name is top of the list. Honestly I just want to take her for a spin. Guess I’ll be syncing carbs again in the near future.😖🤮😎 Stay tuned for the update. Anyone have recommendations for parts source??🤞🏼🤞🏼🤗
Parts are EBay,Craig’s list, Vintage Honda parts Co. what makes it sometimes quicker to find stuff is find “Microfische” and get a reader. I have found many new parts by the correct part #
Friend of mine her old man has one of these and he's been trying to sell it to me for a while he wanted $1,500 like 6 months ago I was joking with him so I'll take it off your hands for half of that since he hasn't sold it yet. Tell me if I bring him $700 it would be mine it probably needs a new battery because he doesn't ride it so he has to keep jumping the bike. But it has the saddlebags it has the windscreen even has the helmet box on the back of the rear fender..
I use to work work with an older guy who had a bike just like yours, fully dressed, boy did he love that bike!
Yes it’s cool

Is it heavy or hard to handle? I'm 5'7 135 pounds.

Awesome - very thorough!
Does the automatic shift still feel like it's going through gears, or is it more like a continuously variable shifting?
A two speed manual shift transmission with torque converter.
No shifting, constant acceleration
It won't never shift?
Great review!
Glad you enjoyed it
How many mpg's do you get with it ?

2 normal rattles, a loose tappet , or cam chain. Either may be adjusted.
@@alsplace4190 thanks so much. I would assume cam chain. Some Google comments seems to suggest torque converter, which can be a bit dry on start up ?
