She and her soul full music has made me a better man. I'm 76 and for about 50 years she has been in my soul. I'm a very lucky man
Amazing music Joan ❤
I use to live in Amsterdam holiday guide sustainable future happy times 😂
This self-taught, self-made woman, is a supremely talented performer, writer and musician, with a luxurious contralto voice. At 70, after 50+ years of concerts and recordings, she's created a body of work that few can rival. Despite that, I believe she's rather forgotten, especially by the mainstream. Of course she's never been for the shallow masses, much too unique and original. I do hope to see her again perform live...if we can ever surmount this damn virus and the damnable resistance to get a simple vaccination...
I kind of like being among a select group of cognoscenti. She really is unique. I once saw her supporting the Sensational Alex Harvey Band, clearly someone had a sense of humour.
As it turned out the audience loved her. It turns out that SAHB fans love both theatre and music.
Love joan from early days cheers…
fuck that virus man, we will see her again when she's touring :-D
says one without a single shot who never fell ill while watching theose "immunized" around him getting really sick
Well said
Loved her since I heard her!❤
I was in Love with this lady performer in the late 70's...❤ Then in the 80's I Saw her live in Sydney Australia. And later in Paradiso Amsterdam...O.m.g what a performer. I interrupted her in her dressing room and felt terrible and totally fulfilled. Elated that i came a little closer to this amazing musician who i gave my heart to through the ether. What an amazing time. Heartbroken ofcourse. 😅
This is the best concert on the internet at the moment ,so splendid
Totally agree!
Joan is a once in a lifetime artist - loved her for 40 years and counting.....
Beautiful in so many ways.......incredibly talented.......totally unique........and a true gift to those of us who are serious music enthusiasts..........
MERCY!! I have loved Joan for decades and been to several of her concerts here in Sydney Australia. She's one of a kind. She continues to perform, make albums and she's still got it. An ABSOLUTE LEGEND! ROCK ON GIRRRL!! 🎵🎤🎸🎷😍
And then God created Joan Armatrading, one of His greatest gifts to man/womankind... thank you so much for this recording!!!!
Exactly
@@ralphkray3255àà, stepping out from emotion, don't want know contradiction. Wow, music mastroe
I love Joan so much. Best in the world, thank you for the call at my door, step lightly thinking your number one down to ground,
I got myself in a thisey, ill find my way out
Stole my heart, looking for you.
. . . back when musicianship and artistic integrity could be commercially viable. . .
Yes, and a long time ago that was...
Oh GOSH... everyone in the USA LOVED this great artist! She came to Drake University in the 70's and it was more than sold out... standing room was not anywhere... She had such a gift... she plays every instrument and wrote and sang all her own songs... She really grew on you... Wonderful listening music... She was hailed as one of the most talented artists in the 70's ... I was 27 years old. GREAT MEMORIES. Thanks JOAN for sharing your talent with all of us ! GAY KIDS followed her all over the USA. The voice of how women really felt.
Thank you for the insight, I always worried she was under-appreciated in her own time, your story makes me happy to know she reached people all over the world. You have excellent taste in music
And still is, I've seen her a few times and she never disappoints.
love to hear this! also 27 when i found her records - 30 now - played them constantly - listening to her is like stepping into being - for me - a grown-ass woman! power in grief, love, uncertainty, in fucking up, whatever. joy in her own tenacity. a lifeline, her music. love and dedication! thank you from west coast canada!
@@ly________ I came to her when I was 13 and so this is long overdue.
She later came back to Des Moines at the Civic Center...lost her voice mid concert and had to quit. And nobody was upset or disappointed. Only wished her well to get her voice back. Boy did she
I was With school friends in Germany - we decided against the Eurovision Song Contest and watched this Joan … what? Bomb! Became fans forever then …
EricTerino Thankyou !!!, this is a bit like finding Gold on the internet.
Absolutely agree!!!
It sure is gold!!!!!
I love a good song writer, but Joan Armatrading’s lyrics are right up there with the best on this planet
Cool blue stole my ❤
'Show some emotions'
My favourite.
Down to the ground think8ng of your mothers son, and you fall at my door, feeling reeling step lightly thinking you are number one.
Tuning my quitar up. Steepping out emotions break, uncertain, distraction, stepping out of love, miss my heart by miles, commotion, stepping into life.
There are three wonderful Joans in music: Joan Baez, Joan Armatrading and Joan Shelley. A wonderful generation sequence of outstanding female musicians!
Yeah and she is the Best
And Joanie Mitchell!
Woefully underrated in every category that she dominates.
"Show some emotion" is one of my most played tunes, love Joan's soulful sound.
Not just a singer, she's a fab musician, great solo artist
This is talent at it's best. Great supporting musicians.
To bad about the stage lighting…
58:00 how to sail through apparent difficulties with grace - a lesson from Joan Armatrading to the rest of us mere mortals
I loveJoan Armatrading
3 months to write a song. Settled, stole my heart, work up first light, I was looking for you, cool blue joan Armatrading is one of the greatest artists just like me. Stole my heart
What a wonderful discovery! Haven’t listened to Joan Armatrading since the 70s and suddenly I’m taken back in time to when I was as young as she was then, and this concert is incredible! Babe, Wontcha Come on Home!❤ Fantastic! What a voice, what an incredible song writer!👍
....and then there's her AMAZING extreeeeeemely talented band.... Wow
How does she get to be so good in a guitar at such a young age? So this is not really about experience, it's pure talent.
She's forever in my heart.♥️
Joan have made some off the best soul songs. soo calm and the rythm.
She's still our shelter in a storm; our willow, willow, when the sun is out!
Fantastic to see this. Been a fan of hers since 1976. Great quality upload.
Wow great to see old people on TH-cam 😊 I envy you guys for living in a period where this high quality of music was still appropriated
Me too
@@AkaliciousZA 'old people' lol but we had the best music
First listen to this performance. When Joan finished her first vocal part of "Cool Blue Stole My Heart" I told my wife: "In the studio version - or is it in her live record, can't remember - now comes one of the most beautiful guitar solos I know". And it came again at 11:50 - live, played by Ricky Hirsh - Goose bumps again - 40 years later!
Her music became the soundtrack to a wonderful romance I had in the 80s. Thank you, J.A.!
Made my day! Thank you! No one can understand what true music is capable of if you haven`t experienced it. And luckily most of us have! To feel communion is the most important thing in the world! And good music is a language limitless! Humanism! We know.We are all trying to cope under the same harsh conditions. Love from Norway.
❤
Thanks for your kind words, I wish you peace and clarity on your way! From Mauritius
Love from Westerville. Ohio. Via St. 🇰🇳 Kitts/ Nevis
Listening to the moon. We were young, under the sun. The plce loving me, big bright shining star, morning.
Only have her on vinyl with no turntable. Thought of her this evening & she was just what I needed -- didn't know how much I was missing her!
I would like to buy your records if you still have them and are willing to part with them.
It is a great to see Joan's fantastic guitar playing on Stepping Out, about 44:00 And I am reminded what a wonderful songwriter she is!
Fantastic - Armatrading is one of the best, and sound and video are great! Got to see her once a couple of decades later - best sound ever heard in an outdoor venue, and top-notch supporting musicians. She’s among the few musicians who can send chills up my spine, and make me weep.
Samandor Yeah, very fine band on this performance at least.
The worst audience reaction to the greatest performance in the history of the world. I would give anything to go back in time to see this.
People didn't exactly body slam in mosh pits back then. They were more subdued...
@Laffingrl oh yes we did, if we didn't live in West Germany
I feel so rooted hearing her. Joan's voice like aural shapes, makes me feel solid and real...time to go outside and touch a tree. Is she the legacy of Odetta?
Joan Armatrading - brilliant musician, strong and fun
Love and RESPECT for Joanie my Joanie
Love the band, but Joan by herself on guitar is a monster. Her playing on Stepping Out is a revelation in that regard. In a few ways she reminds me of Joni Mitchell - very musical and doing a lot more than just strumming open chords up there. Sounds like she uses alternate tunings too. And of course, they both have such a direct honesty in their lyrics and singing.
I was coming in late to discover what an artist Joan armatrading is. I'm still discovering new music . And how musically diverse she was. And one hell of a instrumentalist. Her guitar playing is in the top five of all guitar players. She's still rocking out and coming out with a symphony
My mom introduce me to this women when's still young, everytime when I am home sick, I indulge myself with classic harmony
Thank you for posting this early concert!!!
I watch this every night and never get sick of it!!!
Saw Joan and her band in Boston several times!
Joan's come back into my life from such a long time ago. Woke up with "Me Myself I" on my mind and ended up on an exploratory journey of wonder into all Joan's beautiful works. The musicians here are also magnificent. Great sound. Thank you 🙂
JOAN you rock my world. You are the Queen of Rock. ❤
Wrote it in Amsterdam, three months. Stole my heart ❤
Stole my heart...joan .
The very best of the best, then and now.
Joan is in a league of her own ... wonderfull music , band is on point!
If your feeling sad then let þhe tears roll down
A master class. ...
This is beautiful still....after all this time!
beautiful inside and out
I saw Joan in concert in Sydney about 3 times ...late 70s, early 80s :). What a musician
She is such a sweetheart ❤️🎶😘🥰😍
Oh baby don't stay too late, everyday, scared, home, standing on the corner, stepping out, its my fault for letting you for distracting, stepping in to life, wow, music, commotion, I will make that star a queen, stepping out
Drummer Art Rodriguez sadly passed, great Drummer, fantastic upload, thanks.
A beautiful player
I literally have thousands of records and only just discovered Joan Armatrading. And what a splendid discovery it is! I've already got five of her lp records and they sound amazing on my surround system!
Be sure to find Back to the Night - an amazing album!
I grew up in the seventies (70’s) and the most of music always played on radio was dominated by her songs.Just amazing!
A spring of upwelling artistry....keeps on giving, even to this date
Caught this outstanding tour in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Super, diesen genialen Auftritt nach 41 Jahren nicht nur zu hören, sondern erstmals zu sehen. Habe fast alle Schallplatten. Danke für den Upload!
She has sort of a shamanic vibe. What a powerful lady!
She is just brilliant and this just blew me away! 44:26
I have to say! that audience should have stood up and applauded , if I'd been there, I certainly would have.
#musicalgenius
This performance is soooo bad ass...
She is amazing live & just released yet another album. Good on you Joan keep writing for the people.👍🎸🎤🎼🎼🎼🇬🇧
Wow what a wonderful capture. WHAT A VOICE
I stumbled into her music around 5 to 6 years ago. I can't remember how. It was probably on TH-cam. But, I've been a fan ever since. Her songs are fucking amazing!
I love her. The music is so outstanding. the Steppin Out album became maybe out of this, don`t know, Steppin Out album. She is magic.
Something special
Thrilled to have found this upload! Joan! Nobody bettah!
Its almost criminal really; how undervalued Joan is. Thanks for the upload
Never undervalued! She exists for those who seek her! Sometimes, I feel those constantly in the mainstream; they music can be so easily forgotten as they move on quickly for the next hit! When you hear Joan Armatrading, you know instantly who she, or if you don't, there is always youtube!
One love! 💜😁
@@mamelaw2451 Well put.
One of my favorite things on TH-cam. Thanks ✌️❤️🎼
Love Joan so much, she's like a heart of dreams !!! 🤩

She helped me graduate from the school of life.
We were dancing in the aisles.
Thank you ❤️
Von meinem 14 Jahre älteren Bruder damals geerbt- ewig gehört. ENDLICH WIEDER! Tolle Frau mit berührender Musik!
One of my favourite artists of all time
THANK YOU!!!
Stepping-stone, stepping out, of love, no contraction, what else but emotion stepping into life. Stepping out, into light going to give myself a star life
We went down to the seas, it was a fine day so much love to give. Some horizan lit up the sky, fun day we young , under the sun, how much love have we?
Kissin’ and a hugging!
Loved her recordings in mid to late 70’s and got to see her live in Rotterdam in the early 80’s. Somehow I had the impression from her music and album covers that she was possibly a shy person that might not translate into a large (8000 seat) venue. Boy, was I wrong! She walked out and owned the stage all night. Show ended with “Willow” and as the crowd left the arena to the ramp to the train station and even on the train platform the crowd kept singing the last refrain over and over. MAGICAL!
Thanks so much for posting this.
I was there too..
Melancholy with a hint of demand. Smooth as silk with teeth. Fan from day one.
The amazing and incomparable JA …. musically fantastic
I Bought 'Me Myself I' Album The Following Year..........True Unique Artist In Every Sense Of The Word.
