Have to say the Louvre is exhausting and overwhelming. The Pompidou Centre is a wonderful place that is central and easy to access and has a smaller, neater collection for people who don’t have the rest of their lives to wander around a museum! Highly recommend. (Plus cheap entry for under 30s!)
Humans like things that we have seen a lot and recognize most likely because it is an advantage in life when you recognize people and places you have seen a lot. So there is actually research that shows people enjoy art more when they have seen it previously and showing it to people frequently increases their appreciation. The theory is that people are drawn to the Monalisa is that art heist that led to it being plastered across newspapers. People started to like the picture because it was so familiar which led to it being replicated and being seen by more people and so on and so on and very little with the quality of the painting.
Fun fact. Mona Lisa was actually an art exercise. Technically better versions were made by his pupils and there's a large number of art historians that believe DaVinci, if he had anything to do with the painting himself, only painted one half as the strokes and neatness are ever so slightly different on each side.
