If this is Christmas, 1940, my Dad would have just turned 21. He lived his whole life in Rockford. I would have loved to watch something like this with him.
hahah northern illinois does have some of the most fucked up roads i have ever seen. but yes guys. Rockford is scum we all know one the most miserable cities in the united states and it will never change
The old domed library ... I used to go there as a boy. That library was incorporated into the one that was just torn down ... in fact, when they build the new one in 2022, it will be the THIRD Rockford Public Library I've been to on that same site!! The Faust was a beautiful hotel and still has solid bones. I wonder if that neighborhood will ever recover enough for someone to want to restore it? Not in my lifetime.
My mom was born in Rockford in 1925 and grew up on Paris Avenue. She graduated for Rockford East High School in 1943. My great grandfather emigrated from Sweden in 1902 or so and created Sjostrom & Sons Construction Company, which is still going strong. I was born and raised there and left permanently in 1975. Rockford was a very nice conservative Christian city. What a shame.
damn now all those factory buildings are abandoned, and ripe for exploration why they aren't repurposed and built into fully functional factories again, i will never know
I grew up there and used to deliver machine tool parts to every factory/shop around the city. Everything was just starting to die in the late 70's. Complete failure of Laissez Fair "free" market Capitalism.

Hasn't changed much in 70 years...just the people were a lot more cleaner back then compared to the creatures that roam Rockford now.
But now the crime is very bad

This was awesome... wish Rockford was still like this...now it's a shit hole.
If only that Nelson Hotel was still there today. Wouldn't need to bother with an old Amerock building.

I guess it’s because all the factors went overseas. Why? Beats the heck out of me.
