Proud wellingtonian here. Been watching the Lions go from strength to strength this season. The Last Wellington lions team to win the NPC had All Black legends Jerry Collins, Tana Umaga, Christian Cullen and the great Jonah Lomu. What even more impressive is that its been 41 years since Wellington has won the NPC while holding the Ranfurly Shield at the same time. Well done Canterbury for being such a force in Aotearoa/New Zealand Rugby and for being such an amazing and deserving opponent. Wouldn't have been more happy win to against such a great team :) ...... As for the Lions, I'll be waiting in Cuba Mall for the celebrations when you guys get back.
Proud Cantabrian here living now in Thailand. The Lions have done well all season. Deserved double titles to help balance provincial rugby. But will any catchment anywhere in the world be able to match the Cantabrian vel of professionalism from early grades and all the way through? I suspect not. This is why League at schoolboys levels is falling off in popularity everywhere. But well done Wellington. Celebrate and enjoy. You're gonna have to wait for another 20 yrs for the same. Hahahaha!

I must say the Lions team looks better coached than the Hurricanes. Also, Riley Higgins looks a class act, good to see TJ back in form.

What a season boys! Great to get the shield and NPC trophy. It's been a spectacular year of Wellington rugby. The local rounds were great and seeing the boys gel into this well-oiled machine has probably increased the belief in local rugby. 22 Years since winning the last one, and this time round is the sweeter win. With our national team reps overseas, it's our local heroes who stood up and were counted in this win.
Some promising young lads in the Lions team that I can't wait to watch blooming for the Canes. Delaney, Lakai, Higgins and the already well known Proctor and Love. Dominant stuff by Bird and Aumua.
Congrats to Luke Romano on a great career.
As an Auckland supporter all I say is thank Christ Wellington won.

@@magpieasm5169 yeah I’m wary about them trying to rush him through as well. The furnace of international rugby is unforgiving, seen many promising talents chewed up and spat out because they were rushed. That’s why Hansen was so patient with Ardie.
I gotta confess I'm not familiar with Lakai until this highlight video, but if he becomes a player like those two we'll be very blessed indeed.

@@RugbyLover86 of course he did, Canterbury couldn’t hold on to the ball and had to defend more. Kirifi had far bigger moments, led with brute physicality. His attitude can be tempered, plus in my opinion we need it. We need out 7, our jackler, to have more mongrel and more fight, more attitude. He’s into every ruck, makes big plays, he should be in that squad.

For some reason, they only picked one openside for the AB XV. Maybe they want to give Papali'i more game time, too. Anyway, if they think they only need one openside, than Harmon is the right player. Overall, he had a better Super Rugby and NPC season than Kirifi.
Shout out to Wellington Lions to win the npc final in Christchurch very hard to win there and locked the Ranfurly shield away for the season as well congratulations from a taniwha supporter.

Wow! Great game! Also both Christie and Kirifi are much better players that Sam Cane. They have out performed Cane at Super Rugby level for years, and before that it was Todd, Taufua and boshier. Cane still starts at 7 over players like Dalton, Jacobson and Ardie at his natural postion! Aumua has also been better than coles for YEARS!
I agree but for some reason the all black coaches love old oops i meant "experienced" players lmao. Aumua is even better the taukeaho too but somehow is not even on the bench
@@YallNotWhite_YourPINK Don't exaggerate. Aumua has had a lot of problems with his line-out throwing in recent years and only this year he seems to have improved, mostly during the NPC season. So yeah, he's getting there and should be in the ABs instead of Coles (and now is as his injury replacement), but there's no way he's better than Taukei’aho.

Real talent in the Wellington team, especially in the front pack! Peter Lakai.. needs to be in the ABs, Garden Bashop is a sharp player too.
Asafo Aumua will play for sure next year at world cup coming as sub for Samisoni. What a shame he didn't get the squad to tour in northern hemisphere would have get enough game time and more importantly would have face the big boys from there. I want to think his omission is motivating him better, he is a special talent.

Hooker should be in the ABs its almost criminal he is not.
ABs aren't picked on team performance. The players who deserve to be picked have been picked in either the ABs or AB XV. Ruben Love is even lucky to be there. Stevenson is hard done by; he should have been picked instead.
@@magpieasm5169 no are not! A lot of the players have done NOTHING to deserve AB selection in the last 3 plus years, some of them ever. Players like coles, offa, nepo, cane, goodhue,havali, alb and many others in the past.
