Gotta try this. I can't get it straight using the regular roller set technique.
It's mostly you natural texture that determines if you can get fully straight results using just roller setting. If you are starting with tap 4 hair then expect more of a blow out texture than fully straight and silky.
Can I do this routine nightly on kinky straight clip in hair? I like the curls but they don't last more than a day even after pin curling them the next night

If you mean applying tension to the rollers then yes. You will get a normal roller set which you can then wrap to get to be straighter.
I have have really kinky hair. I tried a roller set and it didn't look good. I think this works best for curly haired girls or straight hair
Trust me if you work with products that work best for your hair you can achieve a roller set. My hair is as kinky as they come and I achieved it. I found that mousse works best for me. I used Camille Rose mousse. Don't give up. I'm sure you'll find a product that works best for your hair😊

They may do if you have fine hair. Magnetic rollers are better.
Do the ponytails leave creases or marks at the roots?
It does. However, if you brush and wrap the hair, the creases or indentations will go away no problem.
I would no use a rat-tail comb to comb through African American hair or rubber bands
You detangle with a wide tooth comb first the rat tail comb smooths it further and so when it goes on the roller it’s smoother vs frizzy
