This man inspires me to play the flute. This is one of my favourite pieces for the flute and I'd love to learn it sometime. I've started searching for Bouriakov recordings instead of Galway and Rampal.

Allright Denis! With the Prokofiev sonata 1st movement you have landed on earth! Russia is a big country - many member states, long history..I am curious whether you personally consider Prokofiev as a fellow Russian "Landsmand" as we say in Danish? But anyway - this sonata is in the top league for the flute repertoire, in many ways the national character vanishes and other priorities take over. I read a comment below that your rendering is not romantic - I cannot comment that, have never thought of this piece of being near the romantic repertoire. But - to the point - as on a (premature) recording from one of my former teachers (no name mentioned) I hear unsolved issues - in both the flute and the piano part. I am sure you know exactly what I mean, and I am sure you are very eager to get these minor issues solved. Now - it's on the other hand very striking to listen to the places where you have had your focus in the final rehearsal work: The top notes are as brilliant as from your "top ten competitors in the realms of flute glory" - no names mentioned - but I still have a weakness for the recording that James Galway made with Martha Argerich on piano ..way back ..still my no.1 flute record.. Also the very difficult staccatas in the low d and around there - to get these to the point where you are now - how I would love that for my own fluting. Now - there is an inspiration for us minor flute players! There must have been a certain amount of stress on both players when you made this recording. About the editions of the Prokofiev sonata: My best edition reads at the bottom of page 1: " This sonata was oritinally composed for flute and piano and the flute part is published separately. The violin part to this edition was revised by the composer in collaboration with David Oistrach. Copyright 1946 by Leeds Music Corporation A.S.M.P. 54 All rights reserved Printed in England. Anglo-Soviet Music Press Ltd., London for the U.K., the Republic of Ireland, and the British Commonwealth (excluding Canada)." Galway confirmed on the FLUTE list, that he preferred this edition too. It's the octave jumps I mean. It's somehow audible that you are not happy with your present state of these octavation issues. I try personally to incorporate some of the suggested octavations - but I keep coming back to this older version. You have something going on with this flute channel on youtube. Keep going - it is getting really interesting now!
