I have a question, my premiere pro wouldn't link the audio to edit in audition if it wasn't on the hard drive (I had it on an external drive), now I'm running out of space on my mac so, as I have edited that part of the project, could I now put it back into the external drive and then link it up again?

1:00 That was my mistake. I renamed a Premiere Pro project which contained a link to an After Effects composition and I got this red box appearing in my preview/
For CS6 you can select all offline clips on the Project Panel and right click, link media, choose "show exact match," and just click on the matched clip, then automatically, all the other selected clips in the project panel will be linked.
I´ve had so many issues when I open a project from months or long ago... when I try to open it the are some clips with blu stripes and clips appear in dissorder :( how do I fix that? HELP PLEASE

Does it mean I can edit only with proxy file on my Macbook Pro on the go and leave the RAW files at home in a portable hard drive? After completed the edit I will attach that portable hard drive to relink with the RAW file for the final export?

What about when this happens after an update version of APP? It will say media offline and when I go to relink, it gives me a "The selected files does not contain media used by clip references in one or more sequences. These videos clip references will be deleted, and cannot be undone."
Same here, I just updated to the latest version of PP, after opening the file, most of my footage are offline. When I try to relink it, the video part is missing and only the audio remains.

I know this is too late but I was looking everywhere on how to fix that Error "The Importer reported a generic error." and I figured it by myself, all you have too do is to copy or move the Clip to another Folder and then Locate it to that Folder and Voila it's fixed.
I got the footage back in premiere, but it won't show up in the playback, despite the red line going away. Could this be because I have masking and coloring effects on the video, or are those saved?
ok so im in a weird situation, i never moved any of the files, but when premiere updated it offlined a ton of my footage of a 37 minute long video, and when i try and relink it premiere tells me that the importer reported a generic error which doesnt help at all. google tells me to make a copy of the file to fix the issue but i dont want to do that for ~200 different clips. it also says it has to do with the file type but everything is a .mov so i have no idea whats going on
Hi Phil, appreciate the effort of putting this tutorial together. I was not able to use it because in my case, the "link media" option was disabled (grey). You didn't foresee this issue in your tutorial, which is a bit of a shame. But thank you anyway.
Hey! i've my film rushes stored on an hdd (is there a safer way to store them? i constantly fear of losing it since a hdd I not that reliable?) and the wire was plugged out while editing and i lost the link of all my videos/ when i re-plugged the hdd, i ried linking them back, but all the files in the same folder were not getting linked at one go. Now, i have 2.5 hour long rushes patches together unlinked. i'm losing hours on linking them individually! any solution for the same?
If your into your project and your file management is all messed up, can you create a new folder and have all your media in that file and get Premiere Pro to locate all media in that new folder?

I'm having an issue linking media in projects worked on by my colleagues that are given to me on externals to export. I try linking the media but a generic import error comes up and I'm not sure how to get around it? People have suggested renaming the files or moving them to a different location, but I'm dealing with up to 2TB of footage per ep and don't have time for that before every export.
Is there an option to "copy to library" like there is in FCPX? That way all the media files imported into the project are stored in the premiere file itself rather than being referenced in external folders. For the life of me I can't seem to find the answer to this, and I'm coming from FCPX so Premiere is a little alien to me, trying to learn the ins and outs.

what happens when you acedentlly replace the file you worked on to the one you edited can you still get it back

how about when saving premiere projects along w the clips and elements on a USB so that I can continue editing on another device?
