My middle school orchestra teacher was friends with the composer so she reached out to him and he came to our class to help us with the song as we prepped for our competition.
@@AmaturePianist I think we got superior ratings that year so we did really well. Don’t remember if there was a ranking system since it was like 9 years ago 😅
In Greece 🇬🇷, the solstices, especially the winter solstice was said to be a time of great magic power, especially dark. But also light magic. I think this piece perfectly reflects this.
A friend of mine wrote a story about this piece, and basically what she thinks is represented by this composition. 1-8: A dragon wakes up from his long nap. 8-17 dragon sees the world around him torn apart by human hunters, and begins to hunger, so he looks for fish. 17-25: Dragon travels to nearby lake and stops by for hunting. 25-33: Hunters spot him as he's hunting and he flees. 33-50: The Dragon, wounded, finds a nearby cave and rests. 53-81: Dragon finds confidence to go hunting again at a different lake. It's a hard struggle but he manages to find some fish. 81-89: Dragon catches a fish and prepares to eat it. 89-97: The hunters from before ambush the dragon and he keels over, having spears in his chest and sides. 97- The end: The dragon bleeds to death and dies without eating his fish. Try it with the song it actually matches up well.
Not going to lie, this songs like a song that belongs in a Legend of Zelda game, like you're in the mountains and there's a blizzard and you have to make it to a temple to stop it....sounds like im describing twilight princess lmao
I love having to play the same thing for 33 measures straight… I played this as a violist in middle school, and I counted how many measures it was because I hated it so much and wanted to complain about it accurately.
I was going to be playing 1st violin in this song for my school orchestra but because of COVID we couldn’t but it was still so much fun playing this piece and shifting into 5th position 🙂
I suggested this piece to my high school orchestra (9th grade) for the winter concert. The teacher bought it and we played it. Unfortunately it was a “hot mess” (yes that’s what our teacher told us) and I agree. I’m so sad because I love this piece. But he told us that we can try it again our junior year. I’m looking forward to redeeming ourselves.
I had to play this in 7th grade and it was a butch to play but I absolutely love hearing it now and want to desperately play it in my high school orchestra
Have to play the cello part on this for my Christmas orchestra in 8th grade... The second violins have it the easiest. the cello parts all the deep notes... it is a good song but it is a hard one
as a cellist, i love this song sm especially the way it sounds but also partially hate it bc quite a few ppl in my orchestra CAN'T COUNT FOR THEIR LIVES and totally screw up the tempo
@@Hi_im_clooxi. yeah but it's the first time i have to do it for a fast piece :D it's just a learning experience, i've only been playing for ~5 years, and haven't had to do it in a piece as of yet :D hope this helps !! /gen
@@Hi_im_clooxi. i think it may be down to covid? i'm in high school now, so i didn't have very good teachers in past years. still trying my best every day! and, i've done well in competitions and stuff, i can play it just fine. getting up to tempo was the hard part, i'm more nervous about making sure i do it right for competition LOLZ
I love how the viola part is 10x harder than any of the other parts
I mean its the fastest melody there is in the song since you have to play in time and switch strings fast and repeatedly along with note changes
Lol I’m first chair 2nd violin and our three violas are playing louder than all of the 2nds combined because nobody practices except for me
@@madstheraccoon That's what you call Viola powA! (I'm a violist) :)
@@moodymelanie6689 haha violas don't get the credit they deserve
@@madstheraccoon I agree :)
viola finally getting some justice 🙏🏽
Viola never get the melody in my class its always the cellos or violins
So true I'm a 2 violin and we only have two violas
we had 3 violas in 6th but now we have like 5 or 6@@StarJelly-k2l

Fr I’m so glad we played this and actually had a chance too shine without being a background noise ❤
I love how the cello part is really well loud and like it’s melody and not just a base for the orchestra
as a viola, can confirm this is definitely one of my favorites
As a viola, I can confirm this is definitely one of my least favorites 😭 it sounds amazing but it's torture to play
I LOVE the Viola part!!! #ViolaSquad
FormalThread479-Minecraft ayyyy im a viola tooo
Cool!
Same
I can play way faster than this speed tho it always seemed slow to me so I just sped myself up
Athena Verene I can see why it can be played faster since we have the same 6 notes played continuously for 34 measures!

Did you guys win the competition?

I love the cello mostly because the cello parts sound amazing but also because i am a cello player

Yes I agree
As a bass player, I love this song so much

i’m the only viola in my class and i have to play this *oof*
Average Dingus ouch man- I’m listening to this on repeat because I have a chair test tmr with this song :,)
Ava Douglas oh cool! i hope it went well :)
Average Dingus rip. Play louder than the music says. I’m also a viola player.
Are you playing the double stops in the section with div.? If so, very impressive!
I'm the only good viola in my class. And I also have to play this

probably my favorite orchestra piece that i've played in school

im in a 7th and 8th orchestra and we're playing this but we sound like, i quote, "asthmatic mosquitos", according to my teacher
I’m playing violin 2 for this song and I love the part
This is my favorite piece of music ever the bass part is the best
Could this work as a quartet?
Probably
i def think so
Nubaid Mridha a quartet typically has two violins, a Viola, and a cello, so another violin wouldn’t be needed.
Ash Parker that’s the point, the second violin in a string quartet is literally for the second violin part.
@@iandugger1168 He's talking about the divisi parts.
Haven’t played it yet but I’m sure my next concert is going to be great with this piece in here! Can’t wait to try it out as a Cellist!
