I’m open to covers that take a song in a different direction than the original, but I can’t understand why someone wouldnt *want* to sing the bridge and other verses. especially the bridge, those lyrics are so much fun to sing
Sound-wise, it's pretty good, but they cut more than just the bridge. They repeated the first verse, and cut the second and third entirely. Kind of disappointing after saying that they really admire TMBG's songwriting.
I love this song. This cover is upsetting. The meat of the song is in the story of “lad” and “gal” that plays out through the second verse, bridge, and third verse. Why omit most of the song and just repeat the first verse and chorus? This is lazy, this song deserved better.
I'm glad AV Undercover is back but I think that part of the fun (and what differentiated it from BBC Live Lounge or Like a Version) was knowing seeing what the song list is. Shame they don't really acknowledge the list in this new series.
@@zacharywilson3738 ah nice For anyone interested: The Modern Lovers, “Roadrunner” Pulp, “Common People” Carly Rae Jepsen, “Cut To The Feeling” INXS, “Don’t Change” The Beta Band, “Dry The Rain” Interpol, “Evil” Billy Idol, “Eyes Without A Face” Tom Tom Club, “Genius Of Love” Wilson Phillips, “Hold On” Toto, “Hold The Line” Barbie Soundtrack, “I’m Just Ken” Leslie Gore, “It’s My Party” Big Black, “Kerosene” Sixpence None The Richer, “Kiss Me” Iron & Wine, “Naked as We Came” R.E.M., “Radio Free Europe” Sharon Van Etten, “Seventeen” Dusty Springfield, “Son Of A Preacher Man” Fountains Of Wayne, “Sink To The Bottom” The Walkmen, “The Rat” They Might Be Giants, “They’ll Need a Crane” The Zombies, “This Will Be Our Year” Til Tuesday, “Voices Carry” Glen Campbell, “Wichita Lineman” Tone-Loc, “Wild Thing”
Bummer because they're sound would work really well with this song... but not doing all of the verses and cutting the bridge? A totally different chord progression? Bleh.
Why leave off one of the greatest bridges ever written? It's a fantastic musical shift and a really heart-wrenching twist lyrically and I'm not sure you should be covering this if you think the song works without it. I've no problem with people rearranging things when covering them, but it helps if you have the most basic understanding of the emotional heart of the song you are covering it and it seems they didn't.
were you guys just too lazy to, like, actually learn the song? you play the first third of the song, then you play the first third of the song again, and that's it.
I thought I’d already heard the worst cover ever when I listened to Duran Duran’s version of Psycho Killer. That just made me laugh. But this… makes my blood boil. How tf did they think they could and should do this to that song? Monstrous.
The style and singing is good. Just feels repetitive and short. I wish they retained more lyrics. My favorite line is, "baby wait. I didn't mean to say nightmare"

I like this cover, they clearly added their own style to it, however taking out one of the best bridges in music history made it 80% worse. I guess the concept of bridges is too complex for young bands nowadays.
well I think it's good, it's different, that is fine, we don't need people reperforming songs the same way as the original, we live in an age of mechanical reproduction.
"aesthetically, could not be less aligned" .. yeah, maybe you should have picked a song that was "more aligned" with whatever you are .. i am a positive person but this was just not good
I might be a nerd, but first of all I'm a music lover. Taking out the bridge (arguably the best part) from a 2 minute song wasn't a good choice. But they did not butcher it like Titus Andronicus did with Birdhouse In Your Soul, it's fun to listen to. Just not as good as it could've been, if they learned the whole song.
This cover isn't meant as bad but it caused a little pain, it caused me pain.
shame this reference is of a line these guys never used...

I was waiting for the bridge, it's the best part!
No don't call me at work again...
Caught between loving the vibe and wanting to yell No! Sing the lyrics!

Call off the cover band. Nobody wants to hear that one again.

god it seems like every chord is off to me. couldn't make it past 1:30
It doesn't just seem that way.... it IS that way.
it just gets worse. they repeat the first 1:30 over again and skip the entire rest of the song.
were you guys just too lazy to, like, actually learn the song? you play the first third of the song, then you play the first third of the song again, and that's it.
Not bad! I wish they didn't leave out the bridge of the song though, some of the best lyrics are in that part
That's my favorite part of the song. :/
"Nowadays songs don't have bridges, that's terrible. A bridge is therapy"
Didn't Sting say that?
Just glad they brought this series back. “Re-Subbed” just for this.
Good vibe, bad cover.

No. Completely misses the tone and the message of the song. Lazy at best.
Let’s cover a song and leave out the best part! 🤘🏼
This cover by Crash and The Boys feels a little rushed
Where was the “don’t call me at work again” bridge :(
one of my favorite songs
Where is the list of 20 songs?
You can find it if you Google it, not sure why they don’t edit it into the video
oh no, buddy its supposed to not make my brain fold in half, budddyyyyy
Did not like this at all. Music was completely off, playing was uninspired and where's the bridge? Better luck next time, guys.
Also, where are the second and third verses? They just repeated the first verse and chorus. This beautiful song deserves better than this half-assed attempt.
I like this cover, they clearly added their own style to it, however taking out one of the best bridges in music history made it 80% worse. I guess the concept of bridges is too complex for young bands nowadays.
I love this song.
Thanks, I hate it
.
Is this supposed to be funny?
The sound and vibe is excellent. I love it. That said, the lack of bridge and second verse is an absolute travesty.
3:07 oh man, they really thought they did something there
well I think it's good, it's different, that is fine, we don't need people reperforming songs the same way as the original, we live in an age of mechanical reproduction.
It's not fine to cover a narrative song and only do the first verse.
Wow this is a horrific mangling of a good song. Are these dudes like... tone deaf?
Not good
"aesthetically, could not be less aligned" .. yeah, maybe you should have picked a song that was "more aligned" with whatever you are .. i am a positive person but this was just not good
Pretty bold move to swap out the bridge for a guitar solo. Still a really solid cover, though!
I would've allowed it, if they had used the bridge chord progession beneath it
had never heard this song, got to the original after watching this and thought the cover is great! go ducks!
You've angered the nerds on the internet; watch out
I might be a nerd, but first of all I'm a music lover. Taking out the bridge (arguably the best part) from a 2 minute song wasn't a good choice.
But they did not butcher it like Titus Andronicus did with Birdhouse In Your Soul, it's fun to listen to. Just not as good as it could've been, if they learned the whole song.
I like this cover! I never paid attention to the original, and now I am hooked on it. But i like the guitar solo and this singer's voice.
The band never paid attention to the original either.
It's fine
oh it's soooo great
oh, no it's not 😓
