I remember when a sales tax increase was proposed to benefit Pierce Transit. The transit authority outlined what would basically be an apocalyptic level of cuts. Much of the opposition came from car dealers and the suburbanites in places PT didn't touch. The proposal failed in a public vote, but the cuts didn't happen because farebox revenue was enough to sustain service. That said, the part of the sales tax that funds Pierce Transit is what contributes to the sales tax in that county being around 10%, or basically a dime for every dollar.
@@stephancox9105 the amount of tax that PT gets is 0.6% or 6 cents for every 10 dollars. PT doesn't contribute much to tax being 10%+ in Pierce County. Intercity Transit (Thurston County) gets 1.2%, King County Metro is 0.9%, and Community Transit (Snohomish County) is 1.2%.
I am always trying to put my finger on why North American transit buses (also coaches) look so weird to me. Is it just me, an European, being more accustomed to European bus styles? But then, Asian buses don't look that weird ...
I used to live out that way; knew that transit system well. Thanks for the nostalgia hit.
Tram > Trolley bus > battery bus > hydrogen bus > diesel bus > car
As a British viewer of this video, I liked the slogan on the back of the buses, 'Pierce Transit is your local sales tax at work.'
