  • Many people who undergo echocardiography are told they have mild mitral regurgitation i.e a mildly leaky mitral valve and this causes a lot of anxiety and concern for the patient.
    In this video, i discuss:
70% of the population has some mitral regurgitation (physiological mitral regurgitation) this is harmless
Primary mitral regurgitation is when there is some anatomical fault with the mitral valve or the apparatus
Secondary mitral regurgitation is when there is a fault with the left ventricle.
In this video, i will explain the questions that you need to ask your doctor when they tell you that you have mild regurgitation so that you can feel informed and reassured.

Hi Dr. Gupta! I have a question for you- I am a 25 year old female with no family history of sudden death or heart problems. I've been experiencing palpitations for about 5 years now, and I usually have at least a handful a day. I went through an extremely stressful situation in the past 3 months, and they have gotten SO much more frequent. I feel at least 100 a day, possibly more. I don't get lightheaded with them. I went to the cardiologist and had normal blood work, ekg, and chest x-ray. A few months prior, I had a 30-day event monitor that came back completely normal, except for pvcs, which the doctor was not concerned about. Should I be really worried? The doctors don't seem concerned, but I am anxious and I know that's not helping! :(

@@xxbugbugxx thank you for the kind words! I had an echo done 1.5 year ago and everything was normal and then had another one about a month ago and they found the leaky valves and it's been really worrisome. What if it gets worse in another 1.5 years? I'm really hoping everything will be okay

Love your videos! They are very informational! I'm trying to find out info about my echo. My doc said I have mild regurgitation in the mitral valve and tricuspid valve, but it has gone up since the last echo. I'm having another one on Monday.... thank you for your helpful videos!

Can I ask u a question here? I'm just curious about my heart right now, my chd-pda was repaired 3 months ago with device closure, but prior to that I have left ventricular hypertrophy, tricuspid and mild mitral regurgitation. I'm having symptoms right now, I got tired easily after having a walk or if the weather is too hot and I experienced back pains like my lungs are too tired and can't breath. I want to ask if its my mitral valve regurgitation is causing me these symptoms? I just thought when I had my congenital heart disease repaired everything will be back to normal. Friends and family is telling me that I should get marry, is it true that if I'm married my heart disease will be cured?

Don't get married for that reason!! The "right" man will make your heart go boom boom! Wait for it!
