Last night (25/03/2020) Pedro Aznar performed a solo show in streaming from his home. After the first song he said some beautiful words for Lyle. I transcribed what he said about LYLE and the video starts like this:
-Pedro Says: A couple of weeks ago left us an immeasurable talent, A guy that I have no qualms about saying that perhaps the most sensitive musician I have ever met, with whom I shared music for 10 years at PMG. Listening to Lyle every night, recording and thinking about a musical arrangement, was a superlative school. A brilliant person not only musically, a great guy in many ways, with amazing intelligence and as I said before with exquisite sensitivity. I'm going to play a song that we recorded together a song with Pat's music and my lyrics and this is in loving memory and in tribute to Lyle Mays. - เพลง
Dear Pedro, in almost one week,it will be 4 years since our beloved Lyle has departed ,still can not get over it.Thx for your memoriam ,very happy to hear your Pristine voice still the same.you have touched our souls so much in hard times . Pat Metheny cultivated so much talent always keeping his eyes, ears, and heart open. I had the pleasure to listen to PMG live many times. I remember in Berkeley, when he told a story about how a tape ended up in his hotel and he gave it a listen. Pat was astounded by the group....guitarist, piano, vocals, and percussion. Then...the story went on..it wasn't a band, but one young kid who put it all on a six track recorder. He then said, I'd like to introduce to you, our newest band member, Pedro Aznar. This was magic, and it wasn't the first time Pat did this kind of thing. I loved Lyle's playing. It's all so rich for the soul, and heartbreaking at the same time. Thanks Pat, Thanks Pedro, and thanks to Lyle. RIP.

@@susanjohnson2068 I believe there's been several tributes from Pat for Lyle, especially a week after Lyle's passing, believe I saw a show online and seemed as if Pat was playing to Lyle and wasn't an album put out just after his passing as well? Sorry I can't remember specifics. I can look later or you can google it ❤

You’ve no idea how much I have lived you, Lyle, Pat, all of you. You’ve been friends in the most horrific of times.
2020 has not been the happiest of times and nothing was more devastating to me than hearing the news that Lyle had passed away. Whenever I listened to him play I was often taken to another realm...a heavenly place of beauty where every note moved me and struck a chord in my soul. You thought nothing could top that but then a vocalist like Pedro would sing...an angelic voice from on high. I'm deeply saddened but thankful that I still have his music to take me to that place!

Pedro's voice is what put the icing on the cake for the Pat Matheny group. His beautiful voice, tone and heart gave Pat's music that depth he was always looking for and Lyle Mays embellishing this beauty with the piano playing that was and still is. Thank you all from the Pat Matheny group during Pedro's time period with the band as there is no music that matches the love and beauty of it all. We all miss Lyle but like I said before and say it again, it doesn't all end here!

Man growing up PMG was everything to me. And Lyle was everything Pat was , behind the scenes sort of in the background but always a giant. And now the music is gone or just not the same. I have sadness for that and the loss of Lyle.
And I cannot forget Pedro and his amazing tribute in this video. Pat recently said the secret to success is to play in a band where everyone is better than you. It's so obvious why Pedro was such a big part of PMG.
Despues de tener una operacion y tratamiento contra cancer en 2004, esta cancion de Pedro y Pat con esa introduccion de Lyle tan divina, me dio muchisima esperanza, y llegue a cantarla tres meses despues con el Louise Gore Trio en un Festival de Musica en Bellingen NSW Australia. Ella ( Louise) es la version femenina de Lyle Mays en Australia. Y fue un gran honor para mi de poder cantarla con su trio. Gracias.
I was just in Bellingen, lovely town along the Waterfall Way. Lovely to hear Lyle's music, and this tune in particular, graced Bellingen at one point 😊 🎶

I remeber when I got the album "First Cirle" when it came out and enjoyed all the music on it, but when it got to this track, I was just blown away. Such a beautiful song. I didn't understand the words, but the music spoke to me what they were. Thanks you for sharing this with the world.

Quien mejor que los que tuvieron el lujo de compartir momentos con el maestro Lyle para hablarnos de él y homenajearle. Y Pedro encaja como anillo al dedo. IMHO ha escogido el tema que mas me ha conmovido de PMG. Nunca me cansaría de escucharlo. Con él he llorado, sonreído, volado, soñado, … No soy músico pero soy amante de la buena música (al menos, eso creo). Y siempre pensé que Lyle era el músico mas exquisito, frágil, sensible y delicado de los muchos grupos y músicos que por curiosidad innata han pasado por mis oídos.
Como triste anécdota, decir que me enteré de su muerte hace tan solo una semana. Absolutamente NINGÚN medio de comunicación mayoritario ni agencia de noticias de España se hicieron eco de tan lamentable y triste pérdida. Un amigo me lo comentó por casualidad.
Tuve la suerte de ver al Pat Metheny Group 3 veces en Barcelona, mi ciudad natal, y, obviamente, Lyle Mays sobresalía. Su figura impresionaba dentro de su equipo de sintetizadores que lo rodeaban junto con el piano clásico de rigor. PMG no hubiera sido lo mismo sin sus paisajes coloridos de trasfondo. Era una parte esencial del sonido PMG tan característico que nos cautivó y enamoró a muchos.
Sin alargarme más, decir que tuve el privilegio de ver a Pedro en el año 2006 en el “Festival de Música Viva de Vic” donde precisamente, junto con otros temas preciosos, nos brindó con la interpretación de “Mas allá/Beyond”. Piel de gallina. Gracias, Pedro. E infinitas gracias, Lyle. DEP🙏.

I first heard this song at the Brady Theatre in Tulsa Oklahoma in the mid 80’s. I was captured by it and to this day. Pedro you are unforgettable and thank you for your tribute to the master of the piano, Lyle Mays. The most brilliant and moving piece of music ever written.

J’ai découvert cette voix unique de Pedro il y a 35 ans quand j’ai acheté ce CD merveilleux de Pat Metheny group, First Circle! Quelle révélation ! Ta voix Pedro n’a pas changé d’un iota ! Toujours ce timbre cristallin qui m’émeut encore aujourd’hui ! Merci à Lyle Mays et Pat Metheny et tous les albums qui ont suivi et qui ont accompagné ma,vie jusqu’à aujourd’hui ! Millions de merci!

Pedro, Thank you… Beautiful! Not long after Lyle’s passing, I lost a dear friend and fellow musician to COVID-19. I struggle to this day with these losses. They both left us with great music to remember them by. I am thankful for this.
Deep in my heart since so many years. Thank you Pedro for this performance, you made me more than a tear. May my beloved Lyle rest in peace.

What a lovely way to pay tribute to Lyle! I especially want to tell Pedro how much he and PMG influenced me in choosing to pursue my dream of becoming a singer, and now, I'm following it! I also want to sing "First Circle" with Pat. I didn't think I'd ever be able to do this, as I've suffered with many ailments throughout my entire life, and I'm overcoming them with the help of God, good doctors and with the help of an infrared laser pen which is actually healing my nerve pain also known as Trigeminal Neuralgia. I'm 58 years old, and I just hope it's not out of the question that I could make this dream a reality. The night you all came to Atlanta back in 1983, and I attended that concert at Cafe 290, I was the one who wanted to see if I got the rhythm to "First Circle". I had guessed 18, 8, and Pat's response to that gave me so much joy! Lyle and Pat obviously were meant to have been able to make such amazing music, and it was Pedro who totally completed it with his voice. Now, I want to be able to share my gratitude to him, Pat and Lyle, even though Lyle isn't here on this planet. I'm sure he knows even more how much inspiration all three of them brought to this person, because my family was totally against me even thinking of having a career as a singer. Now, they wish they'd been more supportive of that dream, and I'm thankful that they're alive still to hopefully see me fulfill this dream. I never wanted them to regret that they didn't support me earlier during my life, because music has always been therapeutic to me. This is why I need to meet Pat so much, but most of all, I'd wanted to meet him and Lyle and tell them my story. God only knows whether this will happen, but I also know where there's a will, there's a way. It's quite a long story, but I want to share it with Pat even though Lyle's not here to hear it. I believe Lyle will still be able to hear it in paradise, and I don't want to leave this world not having shared it and singing with someone who's had more of an impact on my life more than any other musician.
Thank you so much for this amazing tribute to Lyle, and I hope I may also be able to meet you as well.
