Essence for me was strong and graceful while Lip J sharp, ferocious, and technical. Both made me feel very emotional, what a joy. The art of dance expressed beautifully by these lovely beings. Dance and music my first language, they both spoke to my soul. ❤
In the 60 fps version of this video the movements are much better appreciated, every time I compare them I become more convinced of that detail, it really is a visual delight
I fell in love with this battle sm. I watched it almost everyday, won't get tired watching lip j, it's so mesmerizing, and her musicality is always on point. A legendary waacker indeed! It's obvious that she's the real winner in this battle, but she's very humble what a queen!
Since you mentioned it, listen closely on how she's hitting TWO instruments simultaneously. The main beat with her arms and poses, and the other sub instrument with her LEGS pivoting the area. She's really a master of this polyrhythmic stuff. I've been watching her for years but I still gag when she does these tiny details. And on top of all that, her posture is still very very clean. Essence is an amazing, dynamic dancer. She just didn’t show as broad and fluent a vocabulary of movement as Lip J in these rounds. To my eyes, Lip J swept it. I really don’t understand how a contest can work if the dancers are allowed to decide the outcome. You’ll get modest and generous people handing the win to others who may not deserve it. I feel like that happened here, and it will be an ongoing problem if they continue with this weird way of doing it.

Essence approaches Waacking from a more old school stance. It’s more the groove and feeling while still having excellent musicality. There’s soul in her dance. Lip J is more of a technician and modern waacker. She dances with precision and flare. It’s more about eye catching moves than melting in with the beat.
I also thought in round 1 and 2 lip j definitely was in the groove more. The last 2 rounds were classic waacking songs, and I think she let the techniques fly
They were both told to say who they think won and the battle would go on and on until the two battlers reached the unanimous decision of who among them truly won. Objectively, Lip J was the true winner. But the dancer she was up against was a senior dancer and one of the older dancers of the genre. Lip j won but she chose to give essence her flowers.

I said Essence dancing is like ballerina their job is to make it look like it's easy what they're doing that it's not an effort, but we both know that's not the case. I never mentioned that lipj could not do those move, more that Lipj delivery is not as graceful and effortless as Essence. Lipj technic is more mecanic,elegant but not as graceful.
춤알못 보기에..흑인 댄서분은… 왜이렇게 춤추기 귀찮아 하는거처럼 보이지… 그리고.. 팔쓰는 춤이더라도 저치마는… 몸의 반이나 움직임을 볼수가 없으니 더 별로인듯…
