The dewan family is a large musical family of generations, currently at least 9 of them do music and this song was written by their grandfather Khalek Dewan
Actually in Bangla folk song we have almost 120 genre. Sari, Jari, Murshidi, Marfati, Gamvira, Kirtan, Chad pitano (roof making) Pala etc are some of the examples! Our folk songs are very ancient and very melodious from the time immemorial.
I was checking on your recent activity on TH-cam since this song was aired. Seemed you took an off from making reviews. Now it feels good to see you back. This track has been phenomenal in every way.
I think it is fair to say, what I love about Bangladeshi music is that it has so many layers which incorporates a lot of deep rooted village folk music alongside modern musical sounds so that it caters for the older generation of Bengali folks who are traditionalist and grew up listening to folk songs and for the younger generation of Bengali folks who enjoy modern music so that way just by virtue of this, it brings the two generations together. Coke Studio Bangla also invites and welcomes non Bangladeshis who simply love the language of music and are open minded such as yourself to appreciate the efforts of Coke Studio Bangla and their diverse use of amalgamating different musical sounds and concepts together. Description of the song and subtitles are available on this track. Thank you for your lovely reaction.
Checked your channel so many times just to see the review of "Tati". You are the best in explaining Coke Studio Bangla. Not even any Bangladeshi TH-camr. You are just awesome. Thanks for doing this. Waiting for the review of Tati
Yeah they sure did take their time to review CSB 3 this time.. almost everyday I came here to see if I they did the review.. I love the way how they explain each and every content.. even if u didn't like the song by hearing after seeing their review u get to see a whole new point of view which will make you fall for the song.. Keep it up..
The “Saari gaan” has always been working people’s song. Sung for a semi urban audience it always brings in references of working class experiences and seek spiritual enlightenment through it. I remember in the 1980’s around September/October these Saari gaan groups would come to Dhaka and in fringe neighbourhoods they would have their night long sessions. In 2 am or 3 am you would listen songs like “Ma Lo Ma”. That’s why the intro snatched me right back to childhood, when I would try to convince my mom to let me go with our domestic help to join these sessions.
In layman's terms here is the description/decoding of the song: Essentially its a story about a life's journey of a young boy from birth to youth, to old age . So he is saying to his mother, sister and aunt that when i was a child, i was so good so why did i come to adulthood and he is comparing it to having to row a broken boat or a boat with a broken bore. he is complaining that adulthood is tough and its not fair on him and he was better in his mother lap. But as soon as the rap kicks in, its like a voice of reasoning which says, everyone is in the same boat and dont think that your boat has a leak in it, it does not. Everyone goes through the same beats of adulthood and you just need to know how to survive. The world is running and you just need to know who runs it. You will survive and you will be ok at the end.
Thank you for this explanation. The lyrics are so profound and deep! Especially where the rapper says “you think your boat has a leak but I see your boat is perfectly fine”. Amazing!
Good to see you guys back. I loved the visuals of this song but it took me a couple of viewings and understanding the lyrics when I truly fell in love. In my late 30s, I keep getting nostalgic about my childhood when I get overwhelmed with my life. This song just hits me different.
hey, how have you been? was searching for your reviews since the first song of csb s3 had dropped but you guys are nowhere. hope you two are DOING well now :3
There are many types of Bengali songs in Bangladesh. Many thanks to Coke Studio Bangla. For our very own old style To present in front of everyone like modern age.Love to all Arnab and his team.
I always look forward to you guys reviewing bangla music! Thanks for taking the time to deeply analyze and share your opinions with us! It teaches me to appreciate the song much more
Hey brothers where have you been? Waiting for you to see your reaction on 'Coke studio Bangladesh S3'. Because I truly believe you guys are the best in reaction of music with right understanding, sofistication, quality and your knowledge of music. Nice to to see you again. ❤🇧🇩
Missed you guys. Thought you guys left reviewing. None one does the review of CSB like you two. And yes it was overwhelming but it will slowly grow inside you.
I think the song is a tribute to the masons (that's how the masons constructed roofs in 80's ) on May Day, as it was released in May. In this folk song the term 'broken boat' symbolizes the 'struggle of life' and the 'river' symbolizes 'the difficult world'. The first singer (Sagor Dewan) says, life was simple and good during childhood when someone is protected and cared by mother, sister, family etc but life get difficult in adulthood when someone faces the harsh reality of life and has to take family responsibilities. In contrast, the 2nd singer (Rap artist) encourages the first singer to see the positivity of life saying everyone go through some sort of struggle and face the sheer reality of life. It would be good to share the context of the song as described by Pritom Hasan: "This Song is about a man (Sagor Dewan) who is regretting that his life has been wasted, life was simple and beautiful when he was child. As he grew up society made him into something he is not proud of. First you get the original version of Ma lo ma, sung by Arif Dewan himself with a simple baul setup. The way a baul starts a song in rural village. We warm up the team with the sample of Chad petano Gaan singing lines of a behula-lakkhindar song. Sagor comes in sings Ma lo ma on his own Ghazal folk fusion way. Ali kicks in immediately with humor and makes fun of the guy (shagor dewan) complaining about life, he shares the opposite philosophy of enjoying the journey of life as you go. As Ali rolls he slowly shifts into very simple yet deep conversion. After Ali Again Sagor comes again this time he talks about his preset. If you look close enough you’ll see the set director designed the set with the “circle of life” In mind. We born, we grow up, we go through the ups and downs of life and we all go back to our creator. Ali and Shagor represents the two persona I have in my personal life."
Was waiting for this once again. Love your appreciation of Bangla music and culture. PS: the way Haris counts down 3-2-1 with his fingers, it’s quite clear he stays in Germany 😄
Your detailed explanation is so unique. Really arnob done the hardwork & really he found the gem of tati"s song. Bangladeshi songs have such depth, even for us it is heavy to digest sometimes. Your review is the best among all, specially for those WHO knows the truth behind the song! Really you are great. Thank you. ❤
The broken boat represents our short and temporary life. We know- we will die but still we want to live.. We are rowing the boat knowing that it is broken. As we are born, we have to live and work to make this life meaningful after being an adult....That part of the workers' song is about an accidental death of Lakkhindar by snake bite on his wedding night and his wife Behula's mourning for him (mythological story). I think this indicates how temporary human life is...and in this way it relates to the other parts of Ma lo ma song. When Dewans' song is saying that childhood was better and trying to find out the meaning of life, Ali Hasan says life is perfect in its own way... We have to make it meaningful with good works.
Bangladesh has around 800 rivers, flowing all around the country just like the veins of the human body. It's no surprise that rivers are central to our arts and culture. From birth to death, they shape our existence. We find solace amidst life's hardships by surrendering to their endless waves. Though floods devastate us almost every year, they also bring hope with fertile alluvial soil. Our lives are deeply interwined with rivers, inseparable from our hopes and struggles. It's nice to see your known faces after a while. I hope you're doing well too!
We all listen to music but don't try to understand the meaning of the song because we don't understand or pay attention to the lyrics. We should understand that this song describes people from childhood to youth and old age from birth to death.

Was eagerly waiting for your return.
The wait is now over.
This song, which we called "deho totto," is based on physiology. The song is about what our specific destiny is and how our life ought to unfold.
First part is of course of dehotatto sung by Dewans @asifbillah, chorus part is sari
deho totto is a philosphy, not a genre. This philosophy is used in different genres.
Here are the men of culture, waiting for you. All the other reaction videos are below par.
