  • Replacing the drive belt on my 2002 Honda FSC 600 silver wing maxi scooter.
    This is just one way of putting the belt on. It is easier to just keep squeezing the Belt with your hand, instead of turning the engine over, but at the time of the video I had some nerve damage, and lost strength in my grip, so this is a way around it.

      Bryant Chandler Why is that needed? To make sure the belt sit correctly into place?

    • @bryantchandler2925
      @bryantchandler2925 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Because just tightening the nut to spec won't cause the belt to slide outward on the variator and into the clutch pulley. Doing it the way he did in the video does this a little bit each time until the nut can be correctly tightened.

    Also, there are some pin bearings on the clutch where is slides on. Does the clutch just slide off? I don't see any end bolt holding it in place. Is it not just held in place by the cover plate?

      There's a 22mm nut that you have to take off to remove the driven pulley. If you watch my other video on the silver wing you will see it.

    I just replaced my belt and as I was attempting to line up the holes for the "tool" so I could tighten it. I noticed it kept kind of sticking at the same point in the rotation. Is that just the kink in the new belt or do I need to look further. When I use the throttle everything seems to be working smoothly.

    • @VStromGarage
      @VStromGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You basically need to get the variator to open so the belt moves to the inner part of it, and tighten the variator bolt each time you squeeze the belt, or briefly start the engine. If you don't get it bolt all the way tightened it can come off.

  • @Bud_51
    @Bud_51 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You can tighten the nut with a socket and ratchet, as the nut gets tighter the cones will pull together as it turns...

  • @rochrides8730
    @rochrides8730 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    your suppost to pull the clutch pulley so the belt rides deep on the rear pulley then it will be high on the variator pulley allowing the bolt to tighten flush with a torque wrench

    • @VStromGarage
      @VStromGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's just the opposite of that, that's why I keep tightening the bolt each time I start it. Think of it like a bicycle, when your going faster you switch gears and the chain moves to a smaller gear in the rear, and the bigger one in the front.

    • @chrisdefiori6455
      @chrisdefiori6455 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David has it right if you separate the rear pulley by pulling the belt into it then it won't be down the bottom of the front pulley while you torque it up. Your way works as well it just seems harder than it needs to be

    Great shown how to NOT mount the new belt. Starting the mothor with not tighten disc? I was just waiting to see the flying parts... Using the impact key to smash the belt was just perfect way to destroy it. It's enogh to turn it by hands and then slowly tight the bolt -SAFETY FIRST.

    • @andrzejfabianski4948
      @andrzejfabianski4948 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course turning by hand is better, annd safer. About regulation of impact gun, there sholud be additional power regulation, not only the pressure. Anyway for me it's too strong to use it until disc reach it's position. Torque wrench is absolutely "must be" :)

    • @VStromGarage
      @VStromGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think so, I don't have that bike anymore so I can't confirm, but I know that some people take the bulb out so they don't accidently leave the light on and drain the battery.

    • @johnnymotors2023
      @johnnymotors2023 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VStromGarage There is a switch for that trunk light which you can hear when you push the seat down really slow you can hear a clicking which is the switch. Even you have the light installed it will only light up when the seat is unlocked but when you lock it, the light will go off as the switch cuts off the power to the light so you don't actually have a manual switch, everything is done by closing the seat. So you don't really need to take out the bulb.

    Just tightening the nut man there is no reason to keep cranking and tightening it. You can also insert a flat bolt instead of the spark plug. Turn the crank slowly till the piston reach its TDC. The flat bolt will block the piston from further movement. Than you can tightening the nut of the front half pulley.

    • @VStromGarage
      @VStromGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't just tighten the bolt, it doesn't work that way. You have to work the belt down in the pulley in several steps and tighten as you go, or the bolt will come loose and fall off while you are riding.

      The blue lights are just waterproof LED lights. I got them off Amazon it came in a 16foot roll, so you just cut it and solder the wires to it and either run it to a switch or just have them connected to a switched power source.

    Sbagliato: prima di smontare si stringe la cinghia per far allargare il variatore e si mette uno spessore nel variatore in modo che la nuova cinghia scenda in basso nel variatore aperto, poi si rimota il piatto della trasmissione che si stringe facilmente. A questo punto si toglie lo spessore dal variatore e la cinghia gira libera senza che sia danneggiata dai trascinamenti a vuoto (inutili).
