I love milky/clean nail looks. I have heard that using a matte base coat improves the streaking and emphasizing of ridged nails when applying white based polishes. I have lots of ridges and it does look slightly better with white based polishes. I do want to try the Dior combo you recommended but the price holds me back.
Ana , so happy for you and your channel . I follow you since the beginning and it has improved the health of my nails and hand when I follow your tips.
I have ridged nails, so many thanks for this video! My favourite combo is Zoya Lavender Perfector, topped with the Dior Glow! The best is 2 coats Zoya, and one Dior. Sometimes one coat Zoya, and two Dior. Sometimes 1 coat of both, and sometimes 2 coats of both. It really depends on my mood and what look I'm going for. Such a sophisticated look!
I love this look for myself. Would have been very helpful to see a shot of the bottles in front of each nail, or a written description of each nail n the comments.
I find that Essie TLC colours with shimmer, like Loving Hue and Tonal Taupe, are excellent for covering ridges. I also have a couple of sheer & shimmery OPIs that I really like, Princesses Rule & Throw me a Kiss. But the Essies are a really good choice, because they don't need a base coat, so they're great for a quick fix, if you're in a hurry.
Hi Hope! Darn, I forgot about Essie TLC! They are nice too!! I just wish they had the white one without blue shimmer. I don’t have the ones you mentioned but I have the sheer white and pink. Treat me Bright, Sheers to You and Minimally Modest
I know this is an older video, but I wanted you to know I have purchased a few of your recommendations. I am loving the Dior Abricot base coat. It gives a lovely smooth surface to my nails which looks lovely on its own. I will try it next with Nails Inc Glow Naturale which is another product I love, and purchased last year because the Dior Nail Glow was sold out everywhere at the time. I also purchased the Cuccio Pomegranite & Fig cuticle oil together with a set of empty twist up cuticle brushes and have decanted the oil into a few of these which I now have in every bathroom so I remember to use it after each hand wash. This has really helped with my hang nails. Just waiting for my Kerasal to arrive. I have noticed such a difference in the health of my nails since I have been following your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 💕
I have used most of these without success. All my nails have ridges, and the only nail treatment that works for me is Hermes. I know it's very expensive but it works! I use their base coat, polish, and top coat and my manicure lasts 2 full weeks.
OPI plumping top coat really makes the apoearance of ridges almost disappear- I don't know how, but it even smoothes out some smudged polish on my nails!
For my nails I recently mixed a couple of drops of a pearlescent pink nail polish into my base coat. It's a little glittery and bright but subtle. I find I never use the light pearlescent polishes because they make the ridges stand out so so much.
Thank you for recommendations of Dior base and brightner! I adore the clean and neat look they both give! Also it’s a pleasure to watch you work and chat ♥️
As I get older I see more ridges in my nails *sigh*. I do have two nails that have big ridges from trauma and nothing will hide those except acrylics. I have been searching for quite some time for ridge fillers that actually work…haven’t found one yet! I recently found a polish combo that looks stunning. OPI has a French Man line that looks very smooth & pretty. I like Ja T’aime, which is that milky, sheer, light pink over the OPI Matte top coat…..!. That matte top coat under the Polish does something special to the Polish that hides the ridges❣️
Do yours have splits where the ridges are? I have one spot that splits vertically every 10 days like clockwork even when cut super short which ouch . Been doing. That for several years now!
I find that Deborah Lippmann polishes are wonderful at hiding ridges. Her hologram and shimmer colors are easy to apply and hide a multitude of imperfections.
I really like Cirque Colors Organza as a more warm toned sheer. It doesn't seem to streak on me at all so should be fairly good for more ridged nails, mine are fairly smooth though so I haven't tested it on really ridged ones. They have a couple other undertones of sheers that are really popular too. Would not recommend linen though, it leans more on the streaky side so would probably be a mess on ridged nails!
I've been using NailTek ridge filling base coat and it works pretty well. I have pretty bad ridges on some nails so it doesn't work miracles. Thank you for this video!
Thank you for this! I have psoriatic nails and the ridges are out of control. Especially my thumbs. :( If you ever want to try various more brands of ridge fillers I'd be ever so grateful. Loved this video and thank you for the ideas. 🙏
Jamie Joy I don’t know if you like gel polish but they work great to help the ridges disappear as you can file the top after a few layers of gel. Many videos on gel polish.
I like your trick of using Shellac in Clearly Pink, over base coat, then my nail ridges are smoothed out for something like Satin Slippers. I used to love lacquer French manicures, but now I only use gel. It does take a really good formula of lacquer or gel, to show a consistent sheer colour, especially if you’re not painting on a smooth base!
I really like Essie polishes but I had two colors that I had to repurchase because they completely faded and lost their pinky color. (They were not old, less than a year, but who knows when it was manufactured.) Your "Sheer Fantasy" looks way less pink than mine too. :( I also had Ballet Slippers, I noticed it faded a lot and lost its pinkiness. I repurchased it and it is more opaque and streaky. :S I really don't get it. I am a huge fan of sheer and jelly looking neutral colors, but it is really hard to find a good one. Essie Fairy Tailor is also really nice, a warmer pink, a bit more opaque than Sheer Fantasy but still sheer, but it is a bit tricky to apply nicely. Nice sheers that I really like: Essie Vanity Fairest, Allure, Sheer Luck and Catrice More Than Nudes 06 Roses are rosy is amazing. Oh and there is another one from Catrice too which is GORGEOUS, it is called Perfecting gloss nail polish. It comes only in one shade, a light sheer cool pink and it has the most amazing rosy-slightly gold teeny-tiny microshimmer and it applies like a dream.
I think the pinkie looks the best in the video for a clean clear look. I love milky polish too and the do work well for hiding ridges. If I have them too long though, they tend to go on thicker and do not hide the ridges as well. I was glad to hear you say that pinks sometimes fade to beige. I thought I was seeing things and I have even some earthy pinks that fade to brown unfortunately.
What an amazing video! You guys are too fun 😂 Anna you’re a lifesaver!!! I just now learned about doing thinner coats-I was doing the opposite to try to cover my ridges and no wonder they were getting more pronounced! 😢 I’ll do this next time I go for milky/ natural nails 🤍 I just got the Dior Nail Glow and though I’m disappointed my whites didn’t look whiter, I’m loving how they feel and they look so cool and different outside 😍😍 I have two coats on. Next time I’ll do one base coat (don’t have Abricot yet but maybe I’ll get it eventually) plus the Glow 🥰💖 Also, my previous manicure I did three coats of Essie Marshmallow and top coat and they looked really good and smooth 😌 Much love Anna and Mr. Salon Life! 💕
Thank you so much for your kind words ❤️ The Dior Nail glow simply makes the nails look fresh and makes the nails look less yellow (nails naturally have a bit of yellow color). It does not correct nails that are yellow from nail polish.
"I'm asking the viewers!" Great comedy timing. I love your rapport together. Thanks for these comparison vlogs. Any idea why the ridges are selective? I only have ridges on my thumb and ring fingers, same both hands? Thanks Jo in France 🇫🇷
I just tried some products by Londontown. I wanted to test the Illuminating concealer on my “ridgy” nails. I used a thin base coat, Illuminating Concealer, and a sheer pink called Invisible Crown. I also used the Gel Genius Top coat. Yes, lots of layers but wanted to exta protection from a top coat since my work is hard on my hands! Worked well on my nails, even my “Mt Ridgemore” nail looks pretty good. Have you reviewed these yourself? Id love to know!
I love Londontown! I switched from Zoya Remove+ to Londontown Strengthening Lacquer Remover and saw such huge improvement in my nails, even the ridges. It's pricey so I load up when they have a sale.
Another fantastic video. Love to hear your partner talking and joking. Quick question and maybe I've missed it because I'm new to your channel. Would you show how to properly polish your nails on the hand that's non-dominant. Thank you
I love Essie sheer polishes but was underwhelmed with the valentine ones this year 2022 last year I bought a beautiful sheer polish Essie valentines collection called glow and arrow! Beautiful I wish I had bought a back up
I only recently found your channel so working my way through your videos 😍 I have some ridges and I find Zoya naked manicure in the pink and buff version really good 👍🏼
Hi Anna and msl...thank you.. thank you!!! You are both so sweet and the best for this video about ridgy nails. This was so great!! It gave me so many ideas..I think since you both like the dior so much I am going to take the plung and spend the money on them..should I just buy them directly from Dior or can I get them through you some how to help you out?.. please let me know. Thank you again for the video.
Hi Roseanne! Thank you so much for watching and your message! I have links to the products in the description box. Sadly I don’t have an affiliate links for Dior. You can get it directly from Dior. Where are you located? Here Druni has it at a bit better price. I use Dior on its own or with Abricot Base Coat for people with weak and bendy nails. Also lately I use it with Essie Hard to Resist as base coat. Lasts very well! Essie Hard to Resist is nice but it doesn’t have that beautiful brightening glow Dior Nail Glow has.
@@TheSalonLife I am in the US..I was going to try the apricot and the nail glow together like you showed in the video..I also like the idea you suggested about putting a clear over a milky color.. I have two polishes I bought awhile ago before I saw your channel..one is expressie crop top and roll and the other is orly breathable treatment and color it says it is a base and top coat in one. Sheer luck .I think I have seen you use both in a video.

Hi, I found a product called " extreme GEL refill nail sealer" from essence. They said it fills in the gap between the cuticle & gel manicure as it grows out. Maybe would help for ridgy nails ❤️
Thank you so much for your videos. They inspired me to get the Dior Base. But .... what am I doing wrong with the Dior Apricot Base because almost the complete polish peels off after 2 days? I'm not using it with the Dior Glow but with either an Essie Gel Topcoat or an OPI or in two coats (of the Dior Base). Is that the problem? Is it my nails ... are they maybe to bendy?? What do you think? 🧐🥴
That is strange! I use 2 coats of Base on its own for some clients and it lasts very well. It sometimes can crack a bit if your nails are flexible but peeling is not normal. Are you wiping your nails with 99% alcohol prior? Not polish remover.
Thanks for the video 😃 I enjoy you guys! I’m a nail freak I love all polish and nail care. Have you heard of gentle pink a Korean brand of gel polish. All you need is the polish no brace or top coat. I’m really interested in it. What’s good for dry brittle nails? 😊👍🏻😍
I love sheer polishes but don’t ever wear them. The reason is that I have multiple ridgy nails. With sheer polishes, even if you use a ridge filler and it helps the sheer go on smoothly, you’ll see the ridges through the sheer polish. Of course you will. I don’t mind seeing ridges on others. I fully understand it. I just hate the imperfections on mine. 😂 I have other imperfections, too. Ana Seidel of My Bliss Kiss has something she calls a Fab Five Wrap. It calls for two coats of a ridge filler. I’ve done the Fab a five Wrap almost since I started polishing in 2016. When I do two of a ridge filler, I still see the ridges with the ridge filler on. However, I do not see the ridges with the colored polish on. The ridge filler helps the polish apply smoothly and evenly. I can even wear creams and won’t see the ridges on my nails when wearing a ridge filler. I think flakie polishes are the easiest to apply and the best at hiding ridges. Oh, and I know someone in the Fb polish community, Heidi, that has very ridgy nails. Worse then mine and worse the Mr. Salon Life’s. You can’t tell, though when she has polish on. She uses ridge fillers. As a side note, she does lovely nail art and is one of the most helpful people I have found. I really like the polish on Mr. Salon Life’s pinky nail. It especially looks good outside.
Is there a Dazzle Dry color that you think works well on ridgy nails for a "clean" look? Also curious if you have tried a technique that I saw DD "advertise"- to use their white lightening underneath a color to get better coverage. I was assuming it would help with streaks?
Any advice for what to do with a nail that breaks low? Do you put nail glue? Or file it down as best as you could? Do you file the rest of the nails as short?
Hi Michelle! Please check out instagram.com/p/Ck8ZaSeKzWc/? Yes, I would file the nail short and wait for it to grow out. Nail Glue doesn't hold and can damage surrounding nail. I also work on preventing this from happening in the future :) th-cam.com/video/io335eWf6R4/w-d-xo.html
Wouldn’t it be better to just use a ridge filler? I just watched one of your videos on ridge fillers and bought the CD Ridge filler. I haven’t used it yet so I hope for the best.
That's interesting that it was the ring finger and pinkie that had the ridges. I am the same and just on one hand. I wonder if there is a reason for that 🤔 Yes the pinkie did look the best.
I haven't seen Rimmel polish in forever (US)! Years ago it was easy to find in Walmart. It was a great polish and very inexpensive. Did they stop exporting the the US?
My problem is that I get very tiny bubbles with my polish that I can see with my macro camera lens on my iPhone. It makes my nails look a bit gray. When it should be clear. Help!
Out of all these products, which ones have been discontinued? I've been trying to find the Essie Smooth e but it seems to have been discontinued sadly 😢
@@nadineF Isadora is a brand (and the one used in this video also, the pinky) and “second nail” is the name of the polish. I guess Isadora is mostly available in Europe? I think it’s a swedish brand.
A blue based, cool pink would be the best if you want to optically brighten your nails. Sheer Fantasy is quite a cool toned pink if new, the one in the video looks quite faded already. As per my experience they tend to fade sadly.
I would say use a brightener under the polish if you don't mind that "glow". Nothing will get rid of the yellow but the whitener optically brightens them. I don't find Zoya purple corrector makes any difference. They still look yellow and purple. I have to say that Dazzle Dry does not yellow the nails at all. That is a huge benefit of that line.
FYI I think you just sold me on that Early Bird polish: was having a biscotti & coffee with my terrier on the loggia &… ‘OHH! That looks better than I expected, I wonder if that is still kicking about?” Do you ever use Mavala? I just love their wearable colours, but I find they do chip up a bit more than others.
Hello Beth :). I explained how to take pictures and the email is in the description of that video 👀 HOW TO TAKE PICTURES OF NAILS [SO I CAN REVIEW THEM] 👀 th-cam.com/video/5VKzcCnnYJo/w-d-xo.html
Hi Chris :) This video was more about which sheer polishes can still look good for people with nail ridges. Many people have ridges and they would still like to wear sheer polishes.... :)
I really like the Dior abricot but every time I use it after a few days it flakes off on the side of my nails, which is weird as it’s not an issue I find with other brands.
Hi Steph, maybe the video didn't pick it up well but I have super ridge-y nails. No joke I have horizontal and vertical ridges. My nails remind me of a plaid jacket (lines everywhere). Hope you're having a wonderful Friday! Cheers!- MSL
What you should do is nourish the body back to how it use to be, when we were young. I heard different Dr's say once you turn 20 yrs. The body starts to be depleted of vital vitamins and minerals so if you weren't putting it back into our bodies, there's a whole lot of terrible things thats going to start happening in our bodies. Also our hormones. We should eat a vegan or almost vegan diet.
Hi Carol. This was not supposed to be opaque and cover the ridges. A viewer was asking how to get the clean, sheer mani with ridgy nails. Many sheer polishes will make ridgy nails even worse because they streak. These are the colors I use for clients who want that sheer and very natural “almost nothing” look
I love milky/clean nail looks. I have heard that using a matte base coat improves the streaking and emphasizing of ridged nails when applying white based polishes. Thanks for the video 😃 I enjoy you guys! I’m a nail freak I love all polish and nail care. Have you heard of gentle pink a Korean brand of gel polish. All you need is the polish no brace or top coat. I’m really interested in it. What’s good for dry brittle nails? 😊👍🏻😍
Hi Kimberley! I haven't head about the line you mentioned.
For dry and brittle nails- oil, oil and more oil. And urea based ointments/creams.
@@TheSalonLife thank you so much 😊 can’t wait to see your next video
Hi, I have a question about Nitrocellulose, it’s a ingredient in the Dior polishes. Doesn’t it yellow the nails ?
Transform by Dazzle Dry is amazing for ridges.
Which colour was on the pinkie? I got confused.
I’ve got really ridges and now lines across my thumbs so I need a good base coat to cover them all
Is there a Dazzle Dry color that you think works well on ridgy nails for a "clean" look? Also curious if you have tried a technique that I saw DD "advertise"- to use their white lightening underneath a color to get better coverage. I was assuming it would help with streaks?
Dazzle Dry has a nail perfector called Transform. I sometimes use that as the color.
OPI Act Your Beige is the most even looking sheer polish that I have ever, ever used!!
Does it look very beige though? I'm always scared of "smokers nails" look ;)
no- it actually leans more white than the yellowy tone you (and I ) hate!!

Any advice for what to do with a nail that breaks low? Do you put nail glue? Or file it down as best as you could? Do you file the rest of the nails as short?
Hi Michelle! Please check out
instagram.com/p/Ck8ZaSeKzWc/?
Yes, I would file the nail short and wait for it to grow out. Nail Glue doesn't hold and can damage surrounding nail. I also work on preventing this from happening in the future :)

I wonder if there is a reason for that 🤔
Yes the pinkie did look the best.
I haven't seen Rimmel polish in forever (US)! Years ago it was easy to find in Walmart. It was a great polish and very inexpensive. Did they stop exporting the the US?
Hi Queen! I have a link to it on Amazon.com :) In the description box below the video :)
@@TheSalonLife Thank you!
Wish you had used the Dior combo on his thumb as a comparison.
Essie Smoothie sadly tends to yellow the nails. My experience and someone elses.
@@TheSalonLife oh.......well that's not good, not going to bother with that.
Hi! Mavala ridge filler works well for my nails…
I used to buy the Dior one, but I like the IsaDora "second nail" a lot better.
It's like a BB Cream got your nails.
Hi, never heard of IsaDora second nail… is it a brand?
@@nadineF Isadora is a brand (and the one used in this video also, the pinky) and “second nail” is the name of the polish. I guess Isadora is mostly available in Europe? I think it’s a swedish brand.
"It's only been used twice,"
"How do you know?"
"Because I remember these things" 😅😅😂😂
lol.
Thank you. ❤
Hi Anna! What are your thoughts on japanese manicure?
Hello :) It's very interesting but buffing is a no-no in my books. It always removes layers of the precious nails.
@@TheSalonLife Thank you so much for your answer🙂 Greetings from Kraków 🙂
Pozdrawiam!! ❤️
Will polish help keep my ridged nails from breaking or splitting?
No, it can actually contribute to nail surface damage.
Thank you!
Is there any way to prevent fading? Would keeping polishes in a dark cabinet help at all?
It might to some degree but they still fade to some degree. Mine are out of direct light and they still fade ;(
@@TheSalonLife I keep them closed in a drawer and they still fade. :(
I have terribly ridgy nails caused by Fibromyalgia. Some of my Shellac polishes look so streaky!
Herôme ridge filler works for me.
What is brightening nail polish? Didn't catch the brand.
Hi Deb, Isadora Nail Whitener bit.ly/3LJ0fvy
What sheer polish would you recomend for yellow nails, to counter act the yellow?
sheer purple -- Zoya makes one in their "Naked" line
A blue based, cool pink would be the best if you want to optically brighten your nails. Sheer Fantasy is quite a cool toned pink if new, the one in the video looks quite faded already. As per my experience they tend to fade sadly.
I would say use a brightener under the polish if you don't mind that "glow". Nothing will get rid of the yellow but the whitener optically brightens them. I don't find Zoya purple corrector makes any difference. They still look yellow and purple.
I have to say that Dazzle Dry does not yellow the nails at all. That is a huge benefit of that line.
you can put the Essie Twist bottle formula on other bases?
Regular polishes as not as finicky when it comes to mixing and matching. You can try.... :)
FYI I think you just sold me on that Early Bird polish: was having a biscotti & coffee with my terrier on the loggia &… ‘OHH! That looks better than I expected, I wonder if that is still kicking about?”
Do you ever use Mavala? I just love their wearable colours, but I find they do chip up a bit more than others.
Can I send u a picture of my nail if possible-- and how do I do it ? Email possibly
Hello Beth :). I explained how to take pictures and the email is in the description of that video

I like CND ridge filler
Would you apply a top coat to the CND polish
Hi Theresa! Yes of course :)
I think the effectiveness of the ridge fillers would be easier to see and judge with solid nail colors.
The ridgefiller? Or the Base Coat Abricot?
The base coat, it’s a shame as it’s very nice as a sheer polish. I enjoy your informative content, very helpful ❤️
Do you like Essie Mademoiselle sheer like look? So beautiful 💕.
Yes, I do :) I used it here th-cam.com/video/Er4SX8u62dc/w-d-xo.html
Why don’t you smooth the ridged with a nail buffer?
Here is more info :)

Pardon the error……the French Man is by Orly.
I'm guilty...i use a nail smoother on my ridges. I just make sure not to take off too much nail. Nothing is going to camouflage my ridges🤷🏾
Dior Nail Glo…gives a lovely natural healthy youthful nail.
I agree! 💕
Bubble bath is so difficult to use 😐
Yes! I’m not a fan!

It would be more beneficial to use someone with actual ridge-y nails
Not liking the middle finger and ring finger. You can see the lines. Not very opaque.
Hi Carol. This was not supposed to be opaque and cover the ridges. A viewer was asking how to get the clean, sheer mani with ridgy nails. Many sheer polishes will make ridgy nails even worse because they streak. These are the colors I use for clients who want that sheer and very natural “almost nothing” look
It would have been a better video to use someone who had ridged nails.
I do have ridgy nails, both vertical and horizontal. It makes using sheer polishes a nightmare. Thanks :) - MSL
