i searched this since my parents dated within this time frame in the 80s when they were in their 20s. Its actually kinda cool looking at singapore in the 80s where places were new and hip in that time frame but now added with a modern take. I still recognise a few places within the video but largely a very unfamiliar world.
@5:45, Marina Square facing the direction of the Esplanade, where the "Durians" aka Theatres on the Bay and the Floating Platform used by the Singapore Grand Prix F1 race currently stand. @9:35, Forum Galleria (now called Forum the Shopping Mall), they had the first Toys R Us store in Singapore @11:14, the taxi is driving down Orchard Road past Somerset MRT station, Orchard Point is in up ahead, Specialists Centre/Hotel Phoenix is off to the right and and seen in the rear view, it was demolished and Orchard Central and 313 Somerset stands in it's place
Thanks for this video! Brought back many nice memories of the 1980s Singapore when I was still a kid :-) This was the day when Orchard Road wasn't still so crowded, and when Singapore Airlines still operated the classic 747s and the A310. Forum Galleria still looks pretty much the same on the outside, but the inside has changed much. But Toys R Us is still there, and going strong! I remember my parents buying toys for me there when I was a kid, and now I am there buying toys for mine :-)
I am born in 1992 but seeing SG in the 80s really makes me wish I was born in that era. Things seem not as fast paced and everyone back then seems friendlier compared to today. I always feel and believe SG is at its best in the 1980s-1990s. Wish I could turn back time to experience it for myself P.S. AM i the only one who feels that the roads back then were probably better?? WAY LESSER congestion
There were were no digital memory cards back then. These will have t be recorded with VHS tapes. How was the editing (joining) of clips done? Or you just press stop and then started recording another scene?
80s probably is Singapore best era. Progress of developing into a developed nation. Population was 3.5million with mainly Singaporeans. Everything is just great then.
This is insane. Toy R Us is exactly the same as now, the malls looks actually polished and modern. Except for the vehicles, can't tell the shopping malls are from 1980s, no difference as 2000s. Should post a video of Queenstown or Red Hills in 1980s even more nostalgic.
Seeing these videos makes me wanna time travel to the eras.
I would travel back to 2010 with the past 11 years lottery results in hand. lol
you look 2nd world instead of 1st world? move to Malaysia lah bro
@@zantig1 you mean place where women and kids aren't safe ?
Nice to catch a glimpse of the old Plaza Singapura. My favourite mall of all time.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for sharing this video. From the malls and merchandise on sale, I estimate this was shot between 1986-1990
Thanks for uploading which brings back memories in the 80s
Thank you for watching 😊
This is very nostalgic for me , I was around 7-9 years old at the time
It was unforgettable for me. I was 12 at that time.

aww it brings back some good old memories of some places that I’ve been during the 80’s
it looks like everything was starting to get built up

Damn, Im a Filipino living in Singapore and thanks for this! I do recognize Orchard Road. Wonder if Lucky Plaza was existing back then
Yep lucky plaza 1979 opened
Thanks to the Filipino community, Lucky Plaza still remains very very vibrant today.
Not much changes at Lucky plaza tho.
@@bamelanr8807 before that time
Lucky would have been there in the 80s. Still a cool place now with the newer tenants

Beginning was the Imperial hotel. I used to go there every Sun to attend church.
I always thought that fashion back then was so cool...until now.😂 good’ol memories.
I love the cars, so boxy! Its very rare to find now.
I remember being gutted when they started to replace the old taxis. I just want my Toyota Crowns back.
Yeah, not quite the same ride with Hyundais these days
its kinda feel peaceful tho.....usually i loved 80s.
the folks back then were nice, compassionate people..... strong humaneness

I m in tears… what happen to my heaven ? Now it’s …..
Those were the days
Over developed, overcrowded, and overpriced.
Ruined by the late LKY...!!!☝️🙄😬🤨
Wow amazing! My dad was only 7 lol
😄😄😄
Thank you for sharing .. it’s really good memory a time I could associate with and the journey to where we are today ..thank you
beautiful nice and simple place of singapore..
😁👍
My first visit there was in 1989. I remember a drunk Singaporean guy in a food court, and also a bearded Irish guy. Went by train from Bangkok.

Let's plan to visit those old malls before they are gone.

Ang Mo Kio/Sin Ming. Looks different from now. Now have even more high rise apartments or industrial buildings, even have new MRT stations.
Time flies 😑
That was the Bright Hill Temple. Reckon it was a funeral service by the priests ongoing and those were paper offerings to be burnt later.

Old Plaza Singapura...Yaohan...any one with videos?
How about hongkong in the 80's? Have you taken any vids from there? 😄
Back when Singapore was less built up, less expensive and more relaxed to lived in.

Should be real late 80s and early 90s… Marina Square was completed 1990-1991 when reclamation took place , satay club was gone
Truly fascinating Singapore during those years. ❤️
Before and after 35 years
And you guys bought nothing?! Those were the best shops to spend! Nice video tho (y)
