I really found this interview very interesting, many people here in the states including myself, think if more people would look at themselves as Americans, (as a whole) would be better than separating ourselves into categories of Italian American, Mexican Americans ect that as American culture would be more unified, it seems here that many people put more into the ancestry then they do American culture, American culture IS a mixture of people who are seeking basically the same goals, freedom to pursue a good life for our families ect..

.It is the Theocracy in Iran that is behind this war. They want to rule the entire world. No religious freedom, no freedom of speech, no rights for women, just the old men with their theocracy. And it is not the Iranian people. They too want to be free. The Theocratic rulers are the cause and the enemy of the human race. They can't be reasoned with, they are the sworn enemy of reason. If they have their bloody triumph (they would use nuclear weapons) there will be no more freedom of religion, no more music, art, literature, cultures, and nations. There will only be them, asserting their authority is from their vision of God. What they did to those Israeli women, children, families, homes, and the elderly is what they wish for the entire human race. Horror and death. They say it quite clearly. When people tell you what they are, believe them. Every other human conflict among nations pales in importance. This is the greatest menace to everyone. The Iranian theocracy wants to conquer the entire world. The US and Israel are their are their main targets now. But there is no nation they will allow to be free in any form. And even if they form ugly alliances with North Korea, Russia, and China, those alliances too are temporary. If the US and Israel fall, North Korea, Russia, and China would probably celebrate our destruction. For a time. But they too are in the Iranian Theocracy eye sights. They won't stop until every culture, every tradition that is not their own, every people is crushed into "submission". Unless we stop them.

I have mixed feelings. I am from the US and when 9-11 happen Bush was looking to get even/look strong with the attackers and went after the wrong country (Iraq) and wasted billions of dollars, created an opioid crisis at home through corruption in the poppy fields, and spent 20 years getting nothing done while killing lots of people. I have long thought that if we had turned the other check to the terrorists and challenged them to the negotiation table, but we could have had the world on our side it finding and stopping the problem. I might be naïve, but what my nation did was totally idiotic and seems like it came out of the worse timeline. I wonder if a bit of sympathy would have been a bit better.

@@WhoAreYou-.-.just came across this video and NYC Jews SHUT DOWN Grand Central Station in support of the Palestinians being just slaughtered by Zionists in Gaza in the apartheid racist state of Israel. Two entirely different groups of people. Many of the dead on the 7th were very possibly merked by the IDF as the state of Israel has a Hannibal Direcive to eliminate hostages along with 'terrorists' to prevent having to deal with hostage situations and there are reports of Hamas waiting for HOURS while telling the hostages to call the IDF in as they wanted a fight with the state. As far as the Zionists in Israel go, there are a ton of TikTok videos of the settlers mocking the Palestinians being slaughtered. Conflating American Jews with Israeli Zionist settlers is so disingenuous.

Fundamentalist Islamists are not a group that should be allowed a voice.
Islam should be put under intense scrutiny because it speaks in 2 tongues, one to its enemies and one to its believers.
The worst part about this all are the naive progressive women and LGBT people who cozy up to people who would kill or oppress them if they had a chance.

@@mrsbrown1705 it can't be slander as slander is spoken, libel is written. And no it isn't libelous either. It is opinion. Which everyone has a right to. Even if we cannot all agree on our opinions. I'm a Barrister btw.
What is happening is that a small number of people on boths sides are playing politics and power games and it is us normal ordinary folks who die. No different to when I was growing up in Northern Ireland. But the IRA didn't fire rockets from schools and hospitals, unlike Hamas. And Hamas know that Israel always will fire back from where the rocket was launched. They then get their optics for the rest of the world. when they chose to have their own people killed for optics.
Just as the haredi population of Israel keep voting in the far right Netanyahu who is mad for the power too. He sacked all the good intelligence officers and put in yes men. And it is the people who are paying the price. But HAredis are exempt from military service. Unlike muslims born in Israel who do have to do their National Service in the IDF. Imagine how that feels. That the people voting in mad men on both sides, are either radialised by the murder of their families which is technically done by israel yet their kids would still be alive if Hamas hadn't fired the rocket for the school their child attends. It's all kinds of f**cked up just like Northern Ireland was.
But we have peace now, relative peace. People are not dying anymore. There is hope eternal and we must always as ordinary people, hold onto this. As I never thought I'd see peace in my life time in northern ireland but yet it happened before I even turned 20!!! The Peace Agreement was the first time I was able to vote on anything in fact.

I don’t really know any Jews personally, but since I was a kid and first learned about the Holocaust, it broke my heart and I just couldn’t believe it happened. How people can hate one group of people so much for zero reason. Growing up christian, I was always taught that the Jews were Gods chosen people and since the beginning of time they have been hated on. I’ve always been confused by this. In august I visited Auschwitz and was in tears the entire time. I have a soft spot in my heart for Jews because they have been treated terribly for zero reason. Now this has happened, and I can’t even believe what I’m hearing people say. People actually defending terrorists. It makes me so sad. This fight isn't against Jews and Palestinians but against all montheists in the area and Zionists. Rabbi Dovid Weiss is one of the biggest advocates of the rallies as well as Jewish Voice for Peace. I was an absolute BBC TV & Radio 4 devotee for most of my life, but a few years back I just started to find it weird & unwatchable. It seemed to me like it had stopped understanding humour, nuance, human relations, & people's desire for democracy. I felt the more it trumpeted its virtue & inclusivity, the more insufferable & elitist it became. I'm a hated GB News watcher these days. They are a bit low-brow for my tastes, but at least the don't despise ordinary working class British citizens and their desire for stability & security in their lives. The BBC can't even bring themselves to describe HAMAS as 'Terrorists' for God's Sakes! WTF?

In the wake of the current Brand scandal, I found the public reaction to instant (alleged) victim blaming far too familiar and far too triggering which resulted in finding Andrew’s channel to begin with. I must admit, I find Gold’s ‘middle-ground’ approach far more realistic, pleasant and a far more fair minded approach than any mainstream has currently to offer.

Coleman is right about what Israel's options are for recourse. Israel really does NOT have any options other than retaliate...and to retaliate HARD. Their lives, their safety and actually the "right" to actually live & survive all depends upon how they respond. If Israel were to just retaliate with only sanctions, such a response would just be a green light to Hamas to plan another attack that's even more severe, because they would think that they could actually attain what it is they want...which is to end the life of each & every Jewish individual. Weakness or half measures are absolutely not options to Israel. Their actual existence depends upon a very rigorous defense. Andrew, glad you invited Coleman to give his perspectives.

I grew up near Golders Green, which has a large jewish community, and this fact often drew the kind of comments Christopher Hitchens called 'off-the-cuff British anti-semitism'. As a woman I got that extra dollop of misogynism. I've been told that I have a 'jewish nose', that I'm a 'jewish neurotic' - even though I'm pretty level-headed, and that I'm a 'jewish princess' - despite very clearly always living modestly and from cheque to cheque. Now I do speak up if someone says something anti-semitic, but it's taken me many years to get to this point and when I was young, I said nothing and I look back and realise that it was destructive.

I know that this is a time of infinite sadness, of fear, of discouragement. But I wanted to tell you, Andrew , as a message of friendship, the favorite Jewish joke of Raymond Aubrac, one of the greatest and highest figures of the French Resistance during the WW2.
    - Why are we sure that Jesus is Jewish?
    - Because at 30 years old, he still lives with his parents, he adores his mother and his mother takes him for god.
As for the rest, I am very impressed by the quality of this extremely interesting exchange. I also like that you dare to talk about the existential question of Jewishness as you experience it in the UK. I have nothing special to say except I'm learning a lot by listening to you.

Palestinians had never attacked Jews in the centuries they lived together The reason was not related to religion.
This is not to justy the riots, but spreaing the notion that Jews were targetted brcause they were Jews i and linking he attack to Islamism, is unacceptable and irresponsable.
' The British-appointed Shaw Commission found that the fundamental cause of the violence, "without which in our opinion disturbances either would not have occurred or would have been little more than a local riot, is the Arab feeling of animosity and hostility towards the Jews consequent upon the disappointment of their political and national aspirations and fear for their economic future",[6] as well as Arab fears of Jewish immigrants "not only as a menace to their livelihood but as a possible overlord of the future'".

Qualifying the riots as 'Islamists' is wrong.
I think that it is not my job to fill in the blanks.
The riots had a reason and certainly not an 'Islamist one'. Not to say the massacres were justified but they are understandable.
There wa no such thing as antisemitism in the Arab world or else we would need to invent a similar terms for Arab Christians. Both were accepted with restrictions.
Historians seem to concur in the fact that antisemitism started after 1948 in Arab countries.
So no such thing as 'islamist riots'.
Jews' historical persecutors were Christians and Arab countries were really an asylum for them. My husband's great-grandfather was the Great Rabbi of Alexandria and my husband's father and uncle had the most famous textile fabric in all the near East.
Palestinians had no kind of power over Arab Jews. The reasons for the massacres and the riots that preceded had nothing to do with antisemitism.
You forgot to mention that the massacres happened 32 years after the official beginning of the zionist project which was to create a Jewish homeland in Palestine (the birth of zionism dating back to 1887 with the immigration of 35'000 Jews from Russian and mostly Ashkenazi, all fleeing Pogroms.)
I have written a whole essay, but it's not my job to correct everything.

Your guest referred to Jews who “moved” to Israel from Arab countries. I think it is important for your audience to understand that those Jews were displaced and forced to move from their homes due to the formation of Israel. The estimates are that there were as many displaced Jews as there were Palestinians. The Jews were welcomed into their new homeland, the Palestinians refused to form a state of their own and their neighboring Arab neighbors did not want them to come in with the exception of Jordan.

You don’t hear about the refugees who fled to Israel, Israel has absorbed those incoming refugees, while the Arab countries for the most part did not, they use them as a political tool (a common cause, a unifying topic, a diversion from poverty, poor health care, poor education and corrupt governments).

Over 100 million people were refugees on the 20th century, they all have moved on, except for those Arabs of Palestine/Israel, who are kept a refugee status by Arab countries, UNRWA and their own political leaders.

I think very very few actually are. There are people on the actual far left (not who get called the far left) who believe that the Palestinians have a right to violence resistance in that they literally have no other choice being imprisoned in the Gaza Strip and dominated by Israel. Those people are very similar to the people who think Israel has a right to murder innocent Palestinians.
It is true that the Israeli government has grown increasingly extreme and volatile towards Palestine over the years and so, it’s not surprising that Hamas came into the picture and is getting more and more extreme. We know this happens. It happened after the Iraq war with Isis. When you watch your family members murdered, and witness horrific treatment of your people, your entire life, it would make it that much easier to be radicalized into believing these people hate you and that revenge is the only answer.
Violence begets violence. Israel gov stopped trying to make peace with Palestine and has been increasingly hostile and controlling. Then when violence escalated, they become worse and it just keeps escalating.
This guy interviewed thinks warfare that targets civilians is perfectly ok. Modern warfare has become more deadly for civilians than the military because of the bombing and refusal to use ground troops and risk the lives of soldiers. If you’re sacrificing babies for the lives of your soldiers, you are a war criminal in my mind. The actions of Hamas and Israeli both result in the same tragedy and neither will bring peace. Only more violence.

You can't love a person IF that person's LIFE GOAL is to kill you and your whole family because they hate you and your family so much because their religion tells them they HAVE TO hate you and MUST hate you. The worse thing is, that person whose life goal is to kill you and your family? His family and his friends' life goals are also TO KILL you and your whole family because they have the same religoin.
Yes, those kind of people do exist in REALITY and you have seen recently in the news the evil they could do.
Well, Okay, if you must insist, you can love those persons who want to kill you and your whole family. But when you and your family are killed, those persons who want to kill you and your family are not going to be remorseful or feel bad for killing you. They will celebrate that you and your family are dead.
So that explains why to say that "why can't we just love each other and everything will be peaceful" cannot happen in the REAL WORLD.
Because in the real world, there are people WHO WANT TO HATE and WANT TO DO EVIL THINGS to other people because their prophet and their religion commands them that they must hate you and they must do evil things to you and your family unless you convert to their religion.

In Britain, we have no concept of "African British" whereas American's label each other as "African American" or "Italian American" etc. In Britain, a citizen is singularly British and your ethnicity has no bearing. Glad to have found your channel Andrew. You and Coleman come across as very reasoned, honest and thoughtful people on these terribly difficult issues, which is rare these days; and I have learned a lot from you both.
One thing i never really understood though, is how you can still retain a religion based identity, once you have left that religion and become an athiest? Wouldnt you just resort to your ethnic ancestry as your root identity?
For example, I'm from a Bangladeshi Muslim family, but I decided to leave the religion of islam and i am no longer a Muslim. I resorted back to my ethnic cultural identity as a Bengali, and would never identity as a Muslim anymore, even though my family and everyone from my background still are Muslims..
So similarly, wouldn't it be the case that, for someone like you, Andrew, who is from an east European Jewish family, but is atheist and doesn't believe in the Jewish religion, wouldn't your ethnic identity simply be east european, russian/ukrainian, instead of still Jewish?
For example, there are European Christians, African Christians, Asian Christians and the same goes for people of other religions. And if they leave their religion, they still have their ethnic identity, be it African or European. Why is it that only with Judaism, that you are still considered a Jew even if you no longer believe?

    • @te9693
      @te9693 ปีที่แล้ว +5

This is an understandable question, since many people view Judaism as a religion only. The truth is that it's a lot more intricate and complex than that. Judaism is a religion, but it's not only a religion - that's the short answer to explain why people can be non-believing and non-observant, yet still identify as Jewish in culture/heritage/ethnicity. You can't fit Jews and Judaism into a neat box. We share a common race for the most part - but according to the true definition of a race you can't enter into a race since it's based on biology. A person can convert to Judaism and become a Jew, so we're not really a race. Some might categorize us as an ethnicity, but that wouldn't account for the religious component. We're not a nationality either because our identity isn't dependent on a specific land (though obviously we call Israel our homeland, we continue to exist outside of it as well. A nationality is tied to a specific place by definition).
So to answer your question, for many Jews, being Jewish is their core and root identity. We may be Jewish AND another race or nationality, but for many of us we are Jews at our core. For those of us who are observant Jews, the religion and are a huge piece of that. But many Jews who don't believe still identify themselves as Jews. Certainly, many of the people over the years who have wanted to eliminate the Jews have not differentiated based on whether a Jew was or was not religious - all they care about is ridding the world of Jews.

      Very well explained

Jewish people were chased out of all those countries by pogroms and other forms of oppression, long before the holocaust even happened. I think this is why they don’t identify with those nationalities. If you want to know more, there are some interesting videos and podcasts regarding this phenomena.

@te9693 very good of you to give such a detailed response. Also totally agree. It's complicated but at the end of the day those coming for the Jews do not care about the delineations and so that has to be a big component of the identification.

People shouldn't be celebrating any innocent deaths on either side. I don't believe the average Palestinian is anymore intrested in murder than the average Israeli. We always take the bait though don't we!

Unfortunately, this is not true. through the Strife palestinians have taught their children to absolutely hate the Jews in every which way and most of the children. If you ask them what they aspire to be are killers of Jews.

Only Gazans live in Gaza. Palestinians live in the West Bank.

@@ChienaAvtzon Call them what you will. I call them prisoners of war and I know good and well most of them aren't interested in being slaughtered for murdering others and going straight to Hell. They aren't stupid. I'd sooner believe our own government set the whole thing up anyway. That's exactly what they have a long history of doing. It's no secret that Hamas wouldn't exist today anyway if they weren't backed up by the Israelis to being with they use them to keep their prisoners of war divided.
What if a group of lunatics from your city murdered a bunch of people from another town and the government's response was to just start randomly killing the residents of your city by the tens of thousands, maybe more. That would be literally insane.

@@ChienaAvtzon I'd love to know where you picked up this silly and completely untrue idea. All of modern (fake) Israel, including the West Bank and Gaza had been occupied by Palestinians for a very, very long prior to WWII and modern Zionism, which is utterly Satanic on it's face. If God wishes to give that land to his people, for starters, he'd actually put his people there instead of the impersonators who are there today and he wouldn't use the most evil Satanic people on earth from the UN to accomplish it with the help of the Rothschilds.
