    My 3yo son loves fire trucks & firemen. We would camp outside fire station to wait for a fire truck being dispatched. Thank you SCDF for always making the time to wave to my child. You never know how a simple gesture can make his day.

    I have been in the fire service 36 years (now retired) and always knew it was what I wanted to do as a kid growing up. I followed my dream and have no regrets. This is a very video of the life of a fire station. I imagine all over the world there are some differences like the type of shifts and so forth but this video prettry much shows it all. Thank Fire & Rescue Officer. Nice job.

    Given only 1 minute to leave the fire station during an emergency. That lift at 6:24 must have incredibly fast response time as well? I thought all firefighters use a slide pole to move from upper floors to the fire trucks?

      Fire poles from the 3rd or 4th floor might be a bit dangerous.

    • @timderks5960
      @timderks5960 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@almerindaromeira8352 And that's why you do alternating poles. You go from floor 3 to 2 on one pole, then cross the hallway to the next pole that goes from 2 to 1, etc. That even helps with throughput, since you don't ever want more than 1 person on a pole. Making them shorter means that there's less wait time.

    • @adamsmasher9738
      @adamsmasher9738 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We weren't allowed to use the slide cuz too many fireman were getting injured rushing down with it

      @andrewkoey4020 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adamsmasher9738 maybe fire stations should take inspiration from GOOGLE offices and install a steel slide (only slide one floor level at a time) instead of a pole. That would be quite fun for kids visiting the fire station too.

    A couple of questions:
    1. What happens if you get a call in the morning while you're doing something like checking the hoses? Packing everything back up would take something like 5 minutes, maybe even more I imagine, so are you not available during such checks? How does that work?
    2. You say you have to leave the station within 1 minute when a call comes in, but how are you ever supposed to make that if you're doing anything at all? The elevator ride alone takes 20 to 30 seconds I imagine, then there's getting dressed, getting everybody in the truck, and some small things, and your minute is gone. If you're on the toilet, you don't even have time to wipe. Do you really always manage to leave within a minute, or is that just one of those goals set by somebody who never actually was a firefighter?
    3. What's your opinion on your station? It feels very closed off to me, and it doesn't really seem to be designed to allow quick access to the vehicles. Do you think the station could've been designed to be more efficient?

      In SG, unlike in USA where firefighters also have to attend to almost all medical, our firefighters are mostly fire train only and all medical emergencies will be handled by our trained paramedics by the ambulance. However, in each ROTA, there's a handful of firefighters that's both fire and medic trained for faster response, deployed on the fire bike. On that note, if a Fire Engine is nearby vicinity of a medical incident as compared to the ambulance, they will respond to the medical call first.
      Also fun fact, unlike USA where the firefighters have to do height rescue (eg. abseiling), SCDF has a special unit called DART (Disaster And Rescue Team) to do any height or dangerous rescue which it's staffs are attached to certain Fire Stations across SG.
