VANCOUVER'S BIGGEST BATTLE
POPPING SEMI FINAL BATTLE -
Franqey (Win) VS Slim Boogie
Finals footage will be coming up next, subscribe to our channel or visit "Last One Stands - Vancouver's Biggest Street Dance Competition" on facebook for first hand information and videos.
The second beat is from us... Erhan & Fetta... Look in our channel. Peace
They should've just done a side battle of Green vs slim for youtube's viewing pleasure. Thats what everyone wanted anyways
I don't know why people keep hating on the event...there were two different judges for 2012 and 2013...Slim just happened not to win in either of them. Stop hating on LOS they seemed to put up a pretty good event imo.
That was a sick battle! Franqey has been on a come up for awhile and Slim is just another level but I didn't really see that much from Franqey to have taken the W. BUT judges called it.
First Beat "Funk U" in my channel.
People are TRIPPIN up in here. Slim is DOPE AS FUCK. PERIOD. But Franqey won. WHY? He is more COMPLETE as a Popper. His feet are more free, his hit is more consistent and musical with the hit even when it's not a "blow up", his movement is more dynamic uses the entire space/travels/levels/large movements, and YES CONTROLLED. Try controlling those spins...try it. He makes it look easy, its not. Ground moves...again, CLEAN, CONTROLLED. He also was aware of who he is BATTLING maintained eye contact never turned his back on Slim, if he did, he maintained awareness and used it. Franqey is more complete. Slim is on some shit, has always been dope. It's a loss that makes Slim better for the next battle. People shouldn't be making excuses for L's. If Slim is your favorite, at least watch from unbiased eyes...I wanna see Slim show some emotion and BATTLE. TAKE THAT SHIT. He has the skills, just ready for the next jump...he's a humble dude. Too humble. Get in there and BATTLE! I say this with love for my bro Slim, always had his back.
You know what, I thought you had convinced me....but then I watched the second round again. Admittedly I don't think he got "robbed" anymore but I do think we need an extra round.
I'd give Franqey the first round, but Slim's control in the second is just insane. I may be slightly biased because I've been to a couple of Slim's workshops (and also because I hate the weird French obsession with sticking your legs inbetween the opponents), but when you talk about how hard Franqeys ground moves were, it's a mistake not to point out how difficult it is to do those Slim Boogie patented body movements at 5:06 are.
The angle of the camera and his relatively baggy shirt make it hard to see, but having seen those moves of his live at events and in workshops, there is no-one in the world that does it like him. (I'm not saying because its unique it's automatically better, I'm saying there are very few people in the world how have the body control to do moves like that, and he is one of them. I would name salah as another who can manage that type of move).
Anyway, you coming to the UK anytime soon JRock? Would love to jam / learn from you. Not seen you in a battle in a while, I'll happily smoke you and your scarecrowing :P
Mark Watson
I'm always sessioning, battling, teaching and working with this dance. These two battles are from NYC this year. I'm living here now...working on my Broadway show. When I travel, it's to teach, judge, perform. Respect though...I'll see you around. I plan on being at R16 in Korea and KOD in CHina this year.

, I can't say that...I think it's dope to have a round build up. Start slow, show control, and then go off... but sometimes you have to attack the circle right away and have a high energy round the entire time
IMO.
I fully agree with you on this one. Great points, Franquey is a smart dancer.

Mark Watson I actually love slims footwork, the floaty feel he gives his movement and when his feet are going crazy but his body seems to stay still, i think thats tight. I have certainly seen franquey smoke people but in this case id call a tie but if i was made to choose a winner id say slim myself. I think its probably more fair to have at least 2 judges, I recall seeing wiggles and hugo disagree twice in a row in a battle, leading to 2 tie breakers. Makes me feel its slightly unfair to have just 1
Slim & Teck are my favorites out right now, but Franqey took this one. Props to both. Too many times in LOS the poppin semis are more exciting than the finals lol
Slim has quite an elegant style of popping... :)
Slim is one of my favorites too,but imo the judge call was right.
Franqey was quite more energetic in his movements, faster and more on point.
Slim on the other hand didn't hit hard enough to catch my eyes and sometimes his response to the song was late as well from what I could see... 4:33 that part was killler though! D:
WOW. Slim's crazy control!
both are too dope . does anyone know the first song name??
Round One:
Franqey was testing the waters. He held back and performed his usual grooving sets to an otherwise neutral song. Being an experienced battler, he probably thought Slim was not going to kill the song either so Franqey made it a passing round.
Slim then vibed off on Franqey, which was neutrality. I saw many occasions when Slim had the chance to attack the snare and ground his combos - all of which he chose not to do. Indeed lacking battle mentality here (In-This-Battle) as Jrock pointed out, thereby passing the round as a near tie.
Round Two:
A classic example of how doing less (Franqey) with less time but making the most out of each moment -- Wins Over -- extensive dance duration (Slim) in order to convey an impressionable expression.
Slim is a very abstract dancer, one of the best at that, but when he allows his opponent to influence his flow - he falls off his game, deterring his awareness in picking which transitions and dance flavors best compliments his own sets and the Song.
Franqey's mentality: "im just gonna do my thing like i always do and win at it confidently, what do You got?" It's a win for Franqey, and Walid saw it right away, as well of the rest of us with a technical eye.
It's real final battle!
Last one stands - when is the other popping battles coming out??
Good job Franqey =)
This LOS owed Slim a champion! The judge was really suck!
And Franquey's crazy pop
Franquey was NICE here, think he took it slightly here too. don't know many that can follow the beat as well as him
there should be an extra round
Franqey stupidly keeps putting his foot between people's legs. Yes you are so amazing that you an do it. We've seen it 10 times already.
It's his and Nelsons signature, it disarms the other popper. How are they going to react or counter it? It's that kind of thing, to test the opponent.
In my opinion: Slim took it
beathoven
Er beathoooooooooooooooooooveeeen!
Franq has always been good at beat freaking, but damn, he was in this battle.
Slim should have won
slim is awesome
Even though this was a year ago slim boogie smoked that dude because he was hiting which is poppin right? Yeah I've been poppin 18 yrs. And will always be a student and humble hip-hop!
Slim got robbed:)
Yeah it was close until Franqey's leg kick diss actually touched Slim. That's a high risk move and I get it when you make the kick without touching the dancer it makes it look like they're not paying attention but when you touch the other dancer then it loses it whole effect and makes you lose a lot of points.
respest,plz
slim boogie should have won
haha some many haters, who probably never ever danced before, and certainly not popping
i think slim shoulda won...
franqey got slim as inspiration
Chico Sospechas a los adlibs
beathovenvlc in the first Beat!
Jajajha slim crazy control the best
popping bucaramanga
slim took that... ugh his musicality is sooo nasty. Franquey is very good, but nothin new... nowadays people are creating their own styles within poppin... new and fresh to look at.
WTF Slim boogie never had won last one stands. this is so wrong. Slim should won 2012 and 2013.
Franqey won hands down :) stop bitchin' about it
HMMMMM. I dunno man...
Fraq is boring to watch
