@@tinyhato I told Champ this before Corallium and I'll say the same thing about the acoustic... I don't think you *can* raise your expectations too high. I went into the acoustic show with sky high expectations, and it took a full 30 minutes to scrape my jaw up off the floor. :)
@@mattdhorstman That's just Band-Maid doing...I won't say it. Champ mentioned this being an all star year which got me thinking. Can you imagine a bad year? Like, if Band-Maid puts out a bad album? I can't compute it. I try to think what that would sound like and my brain just halts lol.
The ladies revealed the reason for the Conqueror album during their Commentary video of their Christmas Acoustic Okyu-ji. They felt that their existing songs were fast paced which worked up the crowd. However, some of their concerts were in very hot venues and some of the fans suffered from heat exhaustion. The ladies too were affected. They were afraid that someone could get hurt while dancing to a fast song. There are fan cam videos out there that show the ladies making comments on how hot the stage was. They decided to make an album of "medium" speed songs so that they could incorporate these slower song in their concert setlist. These songs provided opportunity to rest . The Shibuya concert on Blu Ray is a great example of how they were able to do a 22 song concert with some of their more energetic songs at the end, because they incorporated many slower songs from Conqueror. As a matter of fact, Conqueror is like a Greatest Hits album. I can't understand those who dislike it.
Agreed, I shake my head to people that shun that album too.
Both Saike and Miku have almost the same pitch on their voices. That's why they can make that "sound wall" with their vocals. They complement each other and make the sum of their voices so much fuller. This is true skill - as a Swede I can only point out what ABBA did. Both girls in that band did just that, complement each other when needed. I love Saiki and Miku for doing that! And I agree with you: the better Miku get on guitar that better this band get. It so heat warming to see Miku get the confidence to really rock out now when she feel skilled enough to do that. Im so glad for her!
Finally he said it: Band-Maid is his favorite band... Hibana is my favorite track on this single incl. b-side. I just love the main riff a lot, reminds me a little bit of Liberal that is still my favorite riff Kanami created! Not my favorite song, but my favorite main riff! Great tune, super fun reaction. By the way, listened to Alan and your 3+ hour stream, it was fantastic, the time just flew by. I really believe your sensitivity and intelligence was just what Alan needed right now. The musical courage these rock Queens show in challenging and expanding their sound/s both individually and as a band which flows on to their audiences (for better or worse) is scary admirable, makes our western male dominated rock industry seem very spineless. So damn the musical torpedoes as the good ship Band Maid forges ahead, bless you BM and thanks Champ for another great reaction. Time for a beer and more Band Maid 😀🍻
Another good reaction! I agree 100% about the guitar tracks need more volume. I love all their stuff, regardless of prog, rock, metal or whatever fusions and hybrids.
Totally agree about the recent vocals from Saiki and Miku taking things to another level. When you get around to watching the acoustic...you will get to see Saiki and Miku really show off.

I agree with you about Miku. She has worked hard at learning and improving her vocals and her guitar skills and she is the primary lyric writer and what she brings to the band is hard to truly quantify but it's kinda inspiring to see how she was able to overcome inexperience and lack of skill through hard work and determination. Not to even mention her incredible charisma and confidence she brings as her role of being the spokespidgeon for the band

If they ever release songs from their acoustic xmas concert, you'll be amazed by Miku's guitar playing. Amazing concert, amazing song choices, amazing sound.
Sense is for anime, this one is for E game tournament, Corallium is for people who seek different sounds.... they all serve their pruposes so well, this is why I love Band Maid.
This song was my favorite of the 3, though with Band-Maid every song is awesome, this is the one that ended up on my most used playlist. I am still taking recovering from amazement at their december Acoustic Concert seeing them play No God on acoustic guitars among other songs I thought would be near impossible to credibly do acoustically and all 5 of them singing.

Another great reaction and agree with the assessment of Miku and her growth. There was a recent interview where she and Saiki are talking about how they record the vocals and Saiki said that Miku adds all the "ad-libs" for the songs in addition to her normal backing parts, so if you hear a voice doing something different , it's probably Miku.
Thrill live official video is a perfect example of how Miku makes the sound thicker, more filled out and just better.
Great job man!. Of course 3 for 3, they don´t do anything for nothing. They begun as a twin vocals band but lately (at least from Conqueror) they have managed to create something different, a sort of colorful combination of vocal lines that interplays to create a rainbow in motion. These multi-layered vocal combinations tend to be more common in larger bands (I'm thinking of Kpop right now), but Miku and Saiki are proving to be an army of two. In a couple of years they have added some amazing voices to an already amazing music. A great time to be alive!

My favorite song on this single. It just perfectly checks all the Band Maid boxes without going too far into the prog area. Just a SOLID hard rock song.
Ha very amusing analogy for the bridge as a normal person → turned insane. I’ve always thought of their bridges (that have nothing to do with the core song musically) as “midlife crises,” or if multi-part bridge(s)- multiple personality disorder (but no “dis” just order). I don’t know what song I like the best out of the three. They are all great. You can make a case for each song. This song especially hits right .. then the bridge is awesome. You can tell the band is getting better and they are being more experimental with adding the prog elements. Miku is really stepping up as well. She has a noticeable presence in Unseen World and these three songs.
It's so wonderful to be able to look back and compare with the newer stuff and the progression of the band. Miku had the most room for growth and she's worked hard at her guitar skills and het vocals and it shows

Agreed, Saiki and Miku are teaming up and becoming a vocal force in rock for sure and "Unseen World" was the beginning of this IMHO.....but then there was the angelic harmonies in "Blooming". You see Saiki and Miku hanging out more together as of late so I'd say they are getting closer professionally. I LOVE when a sustained vocal note slides into a guitar note and you're not sure where the guitar picked up and the vocal ended....good stuff.
I will tell ya Champ, the ladies have said many times that no album going forward will be the same. So, if you are counting on the next album to be like UW, you will probably be disappointed. Also, Sense was an anime song and Corrallium was the alternate choice for the anime that did not get chosen. Hibana was recorded at the beginning of the summer for a gaming competition and was included because it had never been released to the public. So, it is more of a "We got these three songs, lets toss them together for a mini CD" kind of deal rather then a recording session for just the mini-cd. Which makes sense, you got three songs sitting out not on a CD anywhere, why not make a mini-cd with them.
Never saw any info that Corrallium was a song not chosen for the anime. Where u get this from

I had the opposite reaction to the bridge--it felt very Band-Maid Standard Structure to me. Solid song. I love it. But I think they've just about hit the edge of what they can do with their current structural model. I'm really hopeful that they'll mix it up even more on the next album.

Thanks for another cool reaction to a great band. So, I think everyone wants them to turn Kanami up in the mix. Actually, there are a lot of missing things from the mix at times. We should all talk about it. Maybe someone will hear. I mean, Kanami plays all these riffs and I'm like trying to block out everything else to hear them. This would help their popularity in the West a lot. (Maybe there are some engineers out there that could do a remix from the finished product?)

Actually if you watch one of their first acoustic concerts, Miku was totally comfortable, confident, and pitch perfect with her vocals and Seiki was nervous with her voice breaking a number of times. Seiki did get better midway through though. Having Miku's confidence beside her was I'm sure helpful. So the idea that Miku has progressed is just wrong. Miku doesn't have the same range or ability that Seiki was born with, but she has been a good if not great singer for quite a while.
And I also disagree with your term progressive metal. I know that metal people love to claim this group as if it's their own, but this is really progressive rock. Like Deep Purple, Yes, Kansas, Queensryche, etc., before them. I'm old enough to understand that these women are really a progression of what those groups did. They are now the progression. There are no metal bands, with some exceptions, with this kind of songwriting skills. Writing songs that are popular among so many different generations. One has only to watch reaction videos of even children on this venue to understand that. If the music business wasn't run by people who are only interested in money this group would have "dominated" the US market by now. They would take back "popular music".
And by the way, when Queensryche put out a more positive CD, Empire, metal fans deserted them. Metal "fans" chose Metallica over Queensryche. And now these women are even more positive then that. So metal people claiming them as their own is wrong. Jumping on the rock bandwagon is right. Just because music is loud and hard edged doesn't make it "metal".
What can i say about miku, our beautiful 810 years old pigeon who save the world. She can be anything n she can do everything. Imho, for me she's perfect, perfectly perfect ❤️❤️❤️

I actually think it's Saiki not Miku doing the long extended notes, especially sounds like her on the very last one. (As an aside, some of my favourite Saiki notes of all time, are in Shake That and Thrill) Also, I am kinda surprised about lots of people talking about Miku only singing more in the later albums, when she was very much singing way back on the New Beginning album. Some tracks, like Freezer, Price of Pride, Beauty and the Beast (where to me, it seems like she is virtually the lead singer in this one) Don't apply the Brake, clearly trades vocals in Don't Let Me Down, and in Shake That, it's Miku doing every "Shake That". I think Miku really ties the band together. But that's, like, just my opinion, man. Off to get some milk to mix a beverage...
Only the last one is Saiki. Miku does the earlier ones. They talked about this in an interview on Radio if I remember correctly.
