Rice isn't a 6 either. He's awfull at receiving the ball with his back to play.

Jude who’s played majority of his career as an 8 all of a sudden can’t play there anymore he’s had one good season playing as a 10. Like it does stop Greizmann from playing CAM for France even though he’s played ST all season. Like world class players don’t make the system change for them they change for the system. Like Brazil are playing Vinicius Jr at LW even though he’s been playing ST all season.

jude had a great would cup as an 8. made his name as an 8. why is southgate and so many england fans ok with so many games of foden at lw, but against making jude play a position we know he’s elite at? gordon foden saka with rice and jude behind them. move walker to lb since southgate just HAS to play him, let trent feed the attack from rb. having walker and a right footer in left back is taking away a lot of options during buildup. but tbh, i dont trust southgate to create goals no matter what the team sheet looks like. a good manager would be getting results with this talent, even with foden on the left or trent in midfield
It depends doesn’t it. They play compact passing in Madrid if you watch them. He’s a 10, he’s the best player in the world in that position. Not a lot of long balls and long dribbles. He’s never isolated there. Unlike in England where the forwards don’t move unless they have the ball, and the double pivot just sits deep. When that happens, he’s isolated. He’s not a dribbling god. He’s good but he isn’t good enough to beat a pincer defense of 3 defenders at the same time, nobody is (maybe Messi).
In Madrid he’s never isolated, Fede and Cama run with Jude and their forwards. Toni never makes mistakes and always gives the line breaking pass to Jude which is more of Toni skill instead of Jude’s positioning. But all pf them run forwards, stay compact, and nobody is isolated. Once those parameters are satisfied, now you can have Jude Bellingham in his form. Being Thomas Muller and scoring goals out of nowhere, linking up forwards and midfielders like Benzema, poaching goals from advantageous positions like Raúl. That’s Jude Bellingham. The team has to stick together. He’s not a system player, but if the system is so against his brand, his style. Maybe it’s time to sit him deep so he isn’t tired when he goes back to us in Madrid

I watched Madrid. He’s been phenomenal. Not as prolific in the goal scoring but during those time he was excellent at linking up players and doing his duties as a midfielder. He’s been the best player in the world alongside Vini for a long time now. The England squad is just so against his style of play that it hurts to see.

England first eleven and tactics are not working and each individual can have their own opinion based on what they saw in those three games. Southgate doesn’t have pick any of them. If Foden & Bellingham can’t work together drop them both. Play Palmer in the 10, Gordon LW and Mainoo/Wharton to connect defense with attack. Then use the 5 subs when needed to win the game.
Play play 4-3-3 but like in 4-1-2-3. Let foden and Jude play on either side with rice dropping deep
The ball would never reach Foden or Bellingham with Rice holding though. He isn't anywhere near good enough on the ball to play DM.

If Southgate is giving Kane freedom to drop so deep then theres a case for putting Bellingham as a false 9 and dropping Kane altogether. Have Foden playing in his preferred 10 and have Gordon on the left. Gareth can still play with his 2 defensive or holding mids.

The reason not to have Gordon on the left, is that you'd have to think about who you'd leave out? What frail line of reasoning is that you shouldn't play the only relevant player for that troublesome left side? Move Foden inside, sub Bellingham, Saka, Kane and Trippier. Play Gomez, Mainoo, Gordon, Watkins and Palmer. This is Slovakia we're playing, he should have tried out Englands emerging talent against Slovenia but Slovakia aren't World beaters, so let's find out what other combinations give Southgate pause for thought. This happens all the time in tournaments, players form and fitness, fluctuate and not everybody's menses are synchronised. :) If Bellingham, Foden and Kane are getting in each others way, then split them up! You can't really press from the front with Kane and I believe his inclusion into the first team might not be the default selection, that we all thought it used to be. Southgate just needs to follow a rather slavish approach to the formation and allocation of roles. Stop trying to keep everyone happy, know that possession is key to winning, pick suitable players to the required roles and if you feel yourself slipping into the auto pilot of creative, formational accountancy? Then give the top of your hand a good, sharp slap and remember a team is a sum of it's own parts.
He's telling Southgate to make a choice between the two. But says I ain't the manager, so not my decision. Absolutely cope out as a critic. If you truly believe playing one of them is the best option, you should show conviction with your opinion/view. Agree can only play either Bellingham or Foden.
Choice on which one to play depends if England is having more or less of ball possession.
With possession when opponents are defensive minded, it has to be Foden.
Bellingham is a ball winner and will come good when England needs to breakout from defense, opportunity will come with his late charge into the box as well.
For Slovakia, Foden is the better choice.

@@Deathmare235 Kane’s not in great form, and Gordon and Foden would do better with someone running the channels a lot more, so Watkins. Saka is great, not playing brilliant but I suppose no-one is really. I’m just choosing Foden over him on the right and wanting the creativity, and Saka can then come off the bench against more tired legs. Foden/Rice/Trent right hand side would be brilliant, and v capable of covering space and rotating positions amongst the 3 of them. As for Mainoo, he’s great - and I’m a Utd fan - but he’s not a 6, and neither is Rice. Wharton is excellent holding and great at cycling possession, and passing through the first line of pressure. Play him as the deepest of midfield and I’m assuming Rice would be better than Mainoo as a slightly more progressive 8, as he’s played at Arsenal this season.
Stop forcing these mid table players in this team as starters they’re only good for coming on from the bench they don’t understand pressure at this level the play most weeks without pressure
I think Bellingham is a better 8 than a playmaking no 10.
He was an 8 before this season and by all accounts, going to play more of a role like that with Mbappe in the side next season.

The "cowardly" move is to play Mainoo, not Foden. Bellingham and Rice should run the midfield and have Gordon, Foden and Saka/Palmer in front. I’d have Saka AND Palmer instead of dropping Foden or Bellingham.

But what I said was basically:
Kane / Watkins
Gordon - Foden - Saka / Palmer
Rice - Bellingham
If Watkins were to start, I’d have Trent as a right back, and Walker to the left.
If Kane starts, I’d consider swapping the full backs around, or just play Tripps on the left, as usual. We haven’t seen Trent on the LB yet, but it can’t be too much worse than Trippier. Trent can actually use his left foot, and still cross with his right from the LB position.

The problem more is how the midfielders can pass to the forwards because the midfield is not working at all, play Rice with Stones, play 3 back, off the ball Stones will come back makes it a 4 back is like playing 433 and 3241 at the same time. Stones is good on build up and passing, now Arsenal fans can stop that stupid comparison of Rice and Rodri, Look how many young players that's in Spain team and Rodri is single handed Spain midfield, but Rice can't even help in build up I think he is the most flop in the England team but people don't talk about him. Southgate said they are missing Phillips and people find it a problem although I don't like him but he has a point, Rice is not a typical 6 to even know how to control the game but if Phillips is there playing 6 it could've helped,Rice is good at box to box play and there's no natural 6 so he has to play that position but he is struggling that's why you have to play Stones with Rice so on the ball it can allow Rice to do what he is good at.
Someone needs to say, Foden has got better but hasn't been great. There is an argument to drop both Bellingham & Foden. But we all kno Southgate will make one change, Mainoo and bring on the subs at the 86th min.

Players playing in their natural position are basically always better than a better player that's playing out of position.
Look at Germany for example. They could have easily put Gundogan as an 8 and squeeze in Sané AND Wirtz.
However they have a world class coach, who understands balance and players best positions.
So he made a tough decision and dropped a star. In the groupstage that was Sané, tonight it's Wirtz.
So......
* Only one of Walker, Trent or Trippier can play (AT RIGHT BACK!)
* Only two of Saka, Foden, Bellingham can play (AT right wing/attacking mid)
Since I would say Foden's best/natural positions are both centrally and on the right.
* That means Wharton/Mainoo alongside Rice and Anthony Gordon/Eze on the left.
* Shaw left back. If he's injured, put Joe Gomez (played there this season for Liverpool).
PS: Because of Shaw's injury, I would have actually put Tyrick Mitchell (natural left back), but Southgate didn't take him.

3-4-2-1 Pickford, Ghei, Stones, and Walker on defense. Rice/mainoo pivot. Saka/Trippier wingbacks to keep the width. Foden/Palmer “wide forwards” that can drift centrally to be creative playmakers and Kane acting as an outlet number 9 to be feed balls by the two 10s and wingback (not dropping deep).
I love Saka and I think he’s the most consistent winger they have, BUT he has the defensive attributes, experience in that position and discipline to play wingback. Using trippier instead of Trent because Trent has too many holes in his game (defensively, decision making, and work ethic required for this to work). Good formation for a team that likes to have possession and create lots of chances. Learn from past English teams and NOT START ALL THE BIG NAME PLAYERS AT ONCE, controversial but I say bench Bellingham for Mainoo because Mainoo is more technical and better at dictating tempo. Plus rice, who’s the only 6 and this, has to be a starter, plays way more comfortably next to a technically sound player who can receive the ball under pressure.

Because of the way Kane plays no one needs to play number 10 3 central mids with two wingers either side of Kane. So Kane can drop in to 10 and play the winger forward and deep mids can run beyond him.
But we have players that are so good as 10s that we need a 10
I don't agree with that. If that is the case then you setup and play a striker that runs in behind. To open up space for the 10. But Kane is golden boy so he won't be dropped so need to not play a 10 as it causes to many issues.
