When Grosvenor released the Nighthawk LP, Brian "defaced" the sleeve artwork on my radio copy by drawing a set of spidery seagulls with a black marker pen doing "whoopsies" into the sea below! What a much missed guy.

I had a pro 90.. possibly the one that Brian is playing here.. bought secondhand from an organ shop in Coventry in the late 80s. It just about squeezed into a transit van for taking to concerts. The top came off and went into a huge padded black box, the base had a trolley.. and green padded covers for each of the two massive silver speakers. My father gave it away out of spite when I left home to agricultural college rather than university. Hello to anyone who remembers the Bedworth organ society and the Nuneaton and district organ society.

Back in the early 80's I was fortunate enough to be selling Technics at a shop in Dudley, West Midlands, and Brian would often drop in. He was totally one of a kind and a master on the keyboards.

My dad Tony Crump used to repair the Technics organs for Roy Jevons in Dudley. Did you know him?

David Sneyd He's 80 years old now and really not well. He's getting to the stage where he's going into end of life care. He's in Himley manor care home up the back of Russell's Hall. It hurts me so bad knowing what an intelligent man he was and how good he was as an engineer. He was one of the best! Thanks for getting back, all the best, Mark.👍

My first organ was a Technics SX-E33 - the rhythm unit was incredible and immediately recognisable as Technics. Loved it!

I remember those vividly. For the era the rhythm unit was incredible. The breaks and fills weren't even preset. Clever stuff.

Why there is no book about vintage organs?

It certainly would make for an interesting read. So many manufacturers and models in the 70s and 80s. So popular but suddenly the interest of home organs ended.

Now i know why Wendy Carlos insisted on saying that a synthesizer was not an electric organ! I'm ready for Lawrence Welk to emerge from a sea of bubbles?

I am a very big fan of the totally underrated Technics WSA1 synthesizer. So much even that I wrote a programming course for it (www.brassee.com/writing.html#wsa1). What a shame they stopped making keyboards indeed!
