I've seen the Tedeschi Trucks Band a number of times the past 14 years, but none better than Saturday night here in Baltimore. They were on fire. When I first heard that line bass line from Brandon Boone I went back 54 years to the three cassette set I wore out in high school and thought, it can't be. But it was! What a great way to end a wonderful evening than "Soul Sacrifice." And then Sly as an encore! Thank you TTB!
I called up Derek ages ago, to tell him that Carlos had mentioned him in an interview in "Vintage Guitar Magazine." He was still playing clubs w/ DTB. He laughed, & told me that Carlos had already had him over to the house to hang out, watch old videos, etc.! Years later, Carlos finally had Derek's band open for them on a US Tour. Maybe 2007 or 2008. Derek & Mike & maybe another guy came out & did several songs w/Carlos' band! Killer show!
I just had a detailed message that was wiped out as soon as the video ended. My ex-wife & I used to hang out backstage around the time that we got married, & the next few times that Carlos played here in St. Louis. Carlos & his very long time first wife used to be close friends with a couple of our close friends, who had ended up in Woodland Hills, in the northern L.A. area. Phil Pierangelo was killed by a very drunk 21 year old driver, a block from their house. So, in short, we had our own incites into his approach to playing guitar, music in general, his approach to life, etc.... I have since seen or read some interviews with some of the same things that he had discussed with us with the dressing room doors closed. As for very similar personalities, Derek & Eric Clapton were pretty incredible to spend time with before the Sep. 2006 show also including Doyle Bramhall II, Willie Weeks on bass, & Steve Jordan on drums. Chuck Berry's son had gone with me to that Clapton show, & Steve Jordan, who had played with Eric for the Chuck Berry "Hail! Hail! Rock 'N Roll" shows here at The Fox theatre, almost tackled him when he saw "Junior" in the guitar room after Eric, Derek, then finally, Doyle II jumped in playing Delta Blues for us...& mostly for themselves for pre-show fun, & Jordan had not seen Junior since the Oct. 1986 rehearsals & 2 shows. just fun across the board, & one of the best collective shows that I have ever seen! @@markhathaway9456
Hot damn. Carlos at Tanglewood in 1970 is the standard for me. Graham Lear back then was untouchable (watch his hardware swing from the raw power). This was a wonderfully robust although short exploration of this milestone tune.
A killer cover of a killer song, a very tight band...and Susan ends the concert showing why she is the nicest person in the world. I made a comment for a piano teacher on You Tube who was apologizing for her voice cuz of a cold. And I told her of a concert with a country great that didn't want to sing a song since her voice was showing its age. And Susan said that the people weren't there to watch perfection, they wanted to celebrate the person who gave us beautiful music all of her life. It was a great concert...as usual.
Dayam! Didn't know I needed this on a Sunday morning. Just found out my vacation conflicts with TTBs Red Rocks dates, so bummed. Caught them there last year and it was amazing!
Those who know Derek&Susan music;know. As they bboth speak about often in interviews in video and print. This is their theater tour just after the Beacon which is Derek keeping AllmamBros tradition which Derek has talked about being imoortant to him with TTB. and they have established residency that began organically on DC at Warner theater a few years ago said they liked the acoustics and atmosphere there so much they made it annual'mini residency'.They just added Baltimore next doo this year which they had history playing small venues at ever since Derek&Susan Soul revue days played benefit in small Baltimore venue for Johns Hopkins children's charity.' Outdoor tour to large crowds starts in a couple months. They have and were playing to large crowds for over a decade I've Been there but Derek and the band also have roots in theaters say they like to bring that Leon Russel type 70s tour to venues small and large getting both kinds of energy from crowd Derek and Susan say they enjoy
I have known Derek & Susan since around 2000. They prefer to play in the old theatres! Usually great acoustics, & frequently beautiful original 1920s or earlier ornamentation. The FOX Theatre here in St. Louis is one of their favorite stops. Plenty of great hotels, & much cheaper than places like Nashville these days, although The Ryman is a favorite for them too! @@dylangratefully4571
I think the performance at Woodstock is so iconic, so dynamic, that it may never be achieved or replicated again… This is making me head straight for that performance.
I'm not even a blues fan, but when I first heard Derek sit in with Gregg Allman many years ago, I heard some blues licks I've never heard before. I went around for months talking about him...
LOve this band. Ive seen them a bunch of times and come away every time with something new that wows me. But one thing that always gets me is the drum work. they drive this band and Derick hard. They raise and lower the pressure and Derick responses. A well oiled machine that knows how to deliver. Cant wait to see them in the Kings Theater in Brooklyn in the fall.
REALLY?! Is that all you have?! 🤦🏼♂️ I am absolutely, and without a doubt, obviously, kidding!! 😂 You are without a doubt Fan-Tastic!! I absolutely love you and Susan!! ❤️
As usual this band never diappoints, Derrick has really grown and that drummer nailed it, not saying you have to because it is a cover but the bass didn't have that Santana sound still it rocked!
Dare I say it but Derek is better here live than Mr. Page. Whew! I feel better now. Love the Zep's work, but what little I heard live had me wishing for their studio recording
I love TTB but sadly they crucified this. Derek's guitar lead lacked nuance and flow and what happened to the keyboard part? There's a world of difference between latin percussion - congas and timbales - and relentless rock drumming. Check out the original and the interplay between Micheal Shrieve, Chepito Areas and Michael Carabello to hear it played properly.
I wouldn't say crucified but there's a reason nobody tries to cover this monster tune. My favorite version is Live At Fillmore '68. TTB did a nice job here but Carlos and his band were untouchable at what they did in those years.
So amazing to hear Derek honoring Carlos so beautifully! Not many around who could get this so right! Pure excellence.
Couldn't agree more. TTB is a good as anyone right now in this genre
See you in RVA
And being played on an SG.
Carlos dissed him he did it better lol
Love that song, and the whole first Santana LP. The whole band was cookin’, Carlos, Gregg, and my hometown boy Michael Shrieve!
Man, I am a fan of Derek Trucks! What a tone and what great playing!!! really nice cover of this great Santana tune.

Good show, huh?
The Lady Tedeschi timing her rhythm strums to Derek's lean bursts, Rock and Roll Flow ... Love this ... they are both awesome !
One of the best covering one of the greatest. Can't top that. 👍

DT is among the best. None better. Others on his level . . . Probably.
He can play anything and well. Great percussion. Thanks for posting.
❤ TTB is the best band in the USA land period. See them in 2 days ❤ Love Swampette

Saw them onstage together when ABB opened for Santana in 2013. Derek and Warren came out for an hour long jam. Amazing stuff.
I'm glad to see they brought Soul Sacrifice back after a nearly year-long hiatus. Maybe they'll blend it together with Beck's Bolero, somehow.
Excellent rendition of one of my favorite tunes!!!

The greatest American band
You really think so?
Moi aussi.
I'd like Government Mule award them the prize though.
DEREK T. Has Not Only ,Lived Up To Those "Expectations"!! But, Is Now Going BEYOND , EXCEEDING 👊 Them!! ✌️😎
wow.. love these guys . Derek looked like he was really enjoying this
Fire!.. What a band!.. Derek and that Percussion! Wow!
So glad they cover this song. Always liked this Santana number. Derek added all the fire and then some.
Dayam! Didn't know I needed this on a Sunday morning. Just found out my vacation conflicts with TTBs Red Rocks dates, so bummed. Caught them there last year and it was amazing!
Great guitar solo. Props.
Excellent, Love some Carlos, Crushed it !!!
Prince, Jeff Beck and this guy. The sky's the limit.
It's great how this band can take any song and make it their own.
that bass and rhythm section- rolling thunder . . .
Ladies and Gentlemen....Mr. Derek Trucks
This guy should be playing in front of 14 thousand every night. Not 100 years old movie theaters. Music today is in a sad state

The young lad can definitely play the “h” out of a guitar, you almost hear some Dwayne licks, inflictions and tone. Dereck is an absolute madman
Un tema de Santana impresionante. Y Mucho gusto. Derek😮
Religious especially hearing it on a beautiful Sunday in Greensboro Georgia!
I'm not even a blues fan, but when I first heard Derek sit in with Gregg Allman many years ago, I heard some blues licks I've never heard before. I went around for months talking about him...

Great Googalie moogalie !
If I could play guitar like Derek I’d be the happiest guy in the US. Awesome stuff.
The SG sounds amazing
Santana should have stuck with the SG. The tone he had at Woodstock was great. His PRS just doesn’t sound as good.
That was fun....😊
Amazing
...BEST show on the ROAD out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
REALLY?! Is that all you have?! 🤦🏼♂️
I am absolutely, and without a doubt, obviously, kidding!! 😂
You are without a doubt Fan-Tastic!! I absolutely love you and Susan!! ❤️
going to see these guys in Sydney in a couple of weeks - can't wait!!
WOW !!! Amazing !!!
Epic rendition of epic tune!
Great playing by Derek . What a great cover! I believe I will see him and the band at Wings stadium Kalamazoo!!
God took Duane, but gave us Derek. And Susan was a bonus! Thanks God.
Super Sunday music! Greensboro NC loves TTB
These guys are keeping the Classic Rock music alive. God Blless the Tedeschi Trucks band!
Awesome as usual
Got my tickets the Portland show in May 🤘😃
Amazing
Strong Dicky Betts influence coming from that guitar trying to do Santana.
Great video 👏
nice......thank you for sharing......
When you got it you know it 😊
Nice !
Oh yeah baby!!!!!!!
Yea git it done! Nice!
YEAH !!! ❤

Power...
It's the drummers that have to sync, WELL DONE!
Bello/Magnifico.😮😮😮😮😮😮🥵
Hell fire

If John Coltrane and Duane Allman were were one person jamming with Santana
I don't even like SGs, but it's hard not to want one after this lol.
🎸🔥
Was that a Hammond G4? Sounded like it.
monster player
Yup
takes to 2 drummers to replicate Michael Shrieve
Pretty sure Derek is influenced by the birds in the trees above his porch.
I love them but this was just a nice try. First time I've said that about TTB.
Good but should have let the organ have a solo !
I need a cigarette!
I mean he’s just the best, you all grumpy farts in the comments
It takes 2 drummers to match the 17 year old drummer at Woodstock
Kinda sounded like it in the beginning but they took it their own way
Dont care if its the Dead, the Allmans, James Brown, 38 Special, the Doobies or TTB...you dont need two drummers!!!!!!
Seems to be missing a note. It’s na na na na, na na, not na na na na NA. Too layed back for me, Carlos, played with intensity.
I'll take the Original version... Sort of like when someone plays Hendrix, play it note for note...
Phenomenal!

Not good. Only Santana does Santana.
They are the best!
Nice effort. But it does rather make you realise how good Santana were.
It’s a great version… but nobody can touch Santana’s Woodstock version. Must have been the drugs! 😵💫
She must have been robbing the craddle when she hooked up with him, she always looks way older
TBH I expected more...something. I mean, nice soloing and all, but to me this song is about the whole band, not just Carlos' transcendent guitar.
Still don’t care for Trucks…plenty of technical talent, but lacking in soul.
and yet here you are in the comments...
lucky to be there
No where near as good as Woodstock. Why? No emotion.
Not bad for a finger picker. Just can't speed without a plectrum though.10 people and nobody has conga drums or even mariachis?
Sorry but this is a just a bit too fast.
And it has no soul
The bass and drums are just a big mess
more Butchering of a classic...
It's a hard song to cover
Santana 😊
