Disneyland used to be $15 for adults and $10 for kids. We would bring our own food. It was doable. Today, base price is $ 104. Everything goes up astronomicaly but our wages don't keep up.

Exactly. I made a video about this recently, wages not keeping up with prices.

I was able to buy yearly passes in the 90s for I believe 300.00 per year for a family. Plus I worked there for over a year with free passes plus you could go anytime. We used to go when it was raining because people would leave the parks. We used sandwiches in the car ect.. It's out of my reach anymore its for the rich.

Yes! It cost about $300 a year for myself, Mom, and Dad in the 90s!

we live 30 minutes from silver dollar city and the only time my kids have gone was when there were two extra passes someone had. its hard out here for parents who want to give their kids the world but all they can afford is a local playground!

I keep telling myself the local playground is enough, but...it doesn't feel like it sometimes. :(

@@NiftyThriftyMelissa my kids are 17 and 19 and do you know what they remember the most about all the playgrounds we went to? (when I was divorced, we went a lot after school/work just to have something to do) the one thing they still talk about, was when I would play with them. I would get my big butt stuck in the slide and I would swing as high as I could and they remembered me playing with them on the playground more than anything else we did. for their birthday last year we took them to see tenacious d in concert. here it is almost 6 months later and I found out that my oldest never told his coworkers about going to the concert. his coworkers thought it was so neat, and they asked all kinds of questions about it. do you know the first thing he told them? how much fun it was to dance with me while everyones eyes were glued to the stage. they dont remember the things you do, they remember the way you interact with them in that moment. Be that mom that goes down the slides and swings with her kids. do not sit on the benches, parenting is not a spectator sport.

My mom's go-to for vacations was go in the fall. Eat a big breakfast in the morning. Bring your own food in a big cooler. And camp or stay in hotels near the destination but not IN the destination. Plan ahead and book event tickets or park tickets weeks or months ahead if possible and scour the internet for coupons and deals. We have a water park nearby and every summer soda cans would have $5 discounts on them and i remember one summer long ago my mom stacking these cans at the admission window while we all waited behind her embarassed but so excited, we didnt care😅

How Do People Not Know That Disney Doesn’t Care About Them?

Yeah Disney costs have gone up. Wages haven't. It's tough I gave up my AP in the Chapek era. I almost wanted to get it back this year but I just can't. One element is time. I work 6 days a week. The other is cost. I was gonna do the weekdays plan which I could probably manage but the gas would end up getting me.
My suggestion at this point is honestly after hours parties. They cost a little more and are hours that kinda suck. But it includes food.

A lot of what you mentioned is just vacation things. Boarding animals, flights, rental cars. I get what you’re saying that along side the Disney tickets it all adds up. It is indeed expensive to go to Disney but I really do believe there’s thrifty ways to do it. We went to Disneyland in January for three days. If you travel during off seasons it’s an insane discount compared to peak seasons. I guess I have just accepted that Disney is expensive and for myself it’s still worth it. All together we spent probably 2.5k for our trip. That’s including travel, Disney tickets, hotel, food, and souviners. It’s expensive but also so is traveling . Traveling in general is insanely expensive. But you can also shop deals for that too. Sometimes I look at flights for my SIL across the country and flights are typically 2k for my family of 4 but I dig deep enough and was able to find flights for $400 for my entire family. I think if you shop the deals and do it thrifty you can make vacationing work even to Disney. Planning a vacation on a budget and as cheap as possible is an Olympic sport but so worth it.

I agree from 2017-2020 My husband his brother and I went every year we had no kids at the time and we went with pop century hotel, dinning plan, and tickets. Now it’s 2024 and we have not been able to go back because it’s the same price as going on an out of country vacation.with our daughter now.So sometimes we just prefer to do something else because we feel it’s not all worth it to spend all that money on 4-5 days at Disney. You could go on an all inclusive cruise instead.

The price increases year to year are mind boggling and I have friends who can't even get onto the rides they want to go on or get reservations to the restaurants they want to eat at. So much money spent on an experience they can't even get out of what they want to!
