Hey....somebody stole the phrase I was gonna use: couldn't agree more. It's having fun, playfuless, joy that allows or encourages music to fly forth. Be playful in your playing, which, of course, also implies that the inner critic is pushed aside, at the least, initially.
Personally I think a Western music would benefit from doing deep-dives to the rhythm traditions of other cultures. For example the music of the Arabian Peninsula has the weirdest swings I ever heard.
