45:32. Actually Sovereign is gone for good. After Shepard took control of the station from him, Sovereign took control of Saren's dead body and fought Shepard. In other words, he was in two places at once. Fighting the alliance outside and fighting Shepard in the tower. When Shepard defeated Sovereign while he was possessing Saren, Shepard actually killed a part of Sovereign and because of that his shields went down in his original form, allowing Joker and the rest of the alliance fleet to destroy Sovereign.

28:30 Crying over Saren is a perfectly reasonable reaction! He did terrible things, but he wasn't in control of himself when he did them. He'd served the galaxy for decades and for all his flaws, the way the Reapers managed to manipulate him and keep him blind to the indoctrination was by playing on his desire to protect galactic civilization. He was a hero, or at least an antihero, before he was a villain - and he wasn't a villain by conscious choice. He always thought he was doing what was best for the galaxy and he had his life and agency stolen from him by insidious forces well beyond his station. Make him realize that and in his last moment of clarity, he's immediately willing to sacrifice himself to stop Sovereign from using him any more. His story is very much a tragedy and this ending for him echoes the backstory he has in the comics.
And yeah, he was dead at that point, Sovereign just took over the implants he'd put in his body and puppeted them around for the leapfrog bit. To add insult to injury! That's why Sovereign's shields went down and it started drifting after you destroyed the Saren-husk; Sovereign had uploaded or extended his mind into Saren's endoskeleton to try to kill you and having it destroyed evidently disabled him. It's basically like you said - he "wi-fi'd" himself into that Saren husk. So Sovereign is really dead. But he was only ONE Reaper...
Aside from the practical considerations with messed-up makeup and such, there's nothing wrong with getting emotional over these games and I really don't think you need to apologize for it. It's just a sign you're invested in the world and the characters, and that's what makes the 'Mass Effect' trilogy so great. I'd be less engaged as a viewer if you WEREN'T emotionally involved with the plot. But as fair warning - yes, there will be many, MANY more tears in the next couple of games. So make sure to stock up on unscented tissues ;)

Congratulations again I said most of what I wanted to in the premiere but here's a few tips for starting ME2:
-talk to the crew often and get all dialogue, it was important in ME1 but it's even more important now
-there's no more spending xp on paragon/renegade points, you get points by choosing those options
-scan every planet, a lot of side missions can only be found that way
-someone explained this better than I can in the comments on another video, but write down the character creation code so your face doesn't get fucked up
-we covered this but check the DLC list, that will help avoid a lot of confusion and getting locked out of anything
I'll have more after you actually start ME2 but hope that helps, so excited

Early on, after my first full playthrough including 3, my ranking was 2 > 1 > 3.
But now, after around fifteen times through the whole trilogy, my ranking has radically shifted: I go 1 > 3 > 2.
It really depends on what you want out of games like these, and how much time you spend with them. I won't argue my ranking is "right" or anyone else's is "wrong," but my ranking is honest. Someone else's different ranking would be personal to them, with their own reasons, and that's fine.
I can explain my rationale, just like someone else can explain theirs. To do so here would be spoilery, of course, and I won't.
But the bottom line is, this is a great fuckin trilogy no matter how you rank it.

And as a warning, not a spoiler. The genophage storyline gets deeper later in the series exploring the trauma of it. I know in a previous part, you've expressed how it's personally a sensitive subject. So I just wanted to give warning and preparation to not have to worry about getting blindsided by that difficult subject matter.

If you go into Mass Effect 2 here a few gameplay tips to get used too :
    - No need for tech specialist to unlock containers, bring whoever you want without the need to limit yourself
    - I think you will be given early the possibility to change your character class, in ME2 classes are more focused on what they were good at, and have now unique abilities. Infiltrator will be the sniper/stealth, Vanguard is getting close and personnal, Sentinel is the tanky build.
    - There is a minigame on the galaxy map, it is NOT fun, but doing the quests associated with it will lead to new interaction
    - There are new quest dlc after the main quest is completed
    - Main quest labeled "Dossier : Something Something" can be done without moving the plot forward and don't remove other quest
    - Have fun

The Ilos battle theme is freaking amazing. It puts the weight and urgency of the entire game in perspective.
You're in a race against time with an eternal enemy that has never known defeat, with only the ghosts of those who previously failed to witness it. And you're losing.
The OST in this game is as much a character as the crew. Take a damn bow Jack Wall.
Also, i know i'm super late to the party, but on Virmire, Kirrahe and his Salarians lives are dependant on killing the drones at the fuel station (which you did at 7.43, Ep 25), If you don't destroy them, or didn't get credit for doing so (bug), they are overwhelmed and killed.

We've all said it, and now, we're saying it again: FANTASTIC JOB! FANTASTIC PLAYTHROUGH! CAN'T WAIT TO CONTINUE! Now here's something to consider for the sequel; assuming you haven't already progressed in it.
OPENING MISSION ORDER IN MASS EFFECT 2 (NO SPOILERS)
I mentioned this last time, but I'm saying it again. You don't have to do this of course, but, if you want to get unique dialogue, cutscenes, and character moments that you won't otherwise get, there's a certain order to do things a little ways into ME2.
At a certain point, the game is going to suggest that you get "The Professor". You should, instead, do things in this order:
    1. Get "The Warlord"
    2. Get "The Veteran"
3: Take "The Warlord" and "The Veteran" with you to get "Archangel"
    4. Take "Archangel" and "The Warlord" with you to get "The Professor" - (The game makes this last one seem like a bad idea, but trust me. There are no negative consequences, and some cool stuff happens if you do this.)
After that, doesn't matter what you do; although I would suggest saving "The Convict" for dead last, since that progresses the plot. Y'know. Side-quests first. 😉
    -
    A FEW THINGS YOU MISSED
Whether you make a reaction video of this or not, here are a few little things we've talked about that you missed:
This is that cutscene we were telling you about when the humans are on the Citadel for the first time (If it's male Shep, Ashley is the one who does the flirting and gets flustered. 😛): th-cam.com/video/GMGU_5Q9m9Y/w-d-xo.html

At the beginning of ME2, you have ALL the codex entires from ME1, and they're ALL flashing like new, in order to refresh players memory 3 years later. The SECOND you get control of Shepard, you should go into the codex and mark all the primaries and secondaries as read, so you can actually see which entries are new from then on. 👍🏼

    @happyslapsgiving5421 ปีที่แล้ว +2

*NON SPOILER* suggestion for the start of *MASS EFFECT 2.*
Towards the beginning, you are given a chance to *adjust your character's look.*
    1) You can leave it as is.
However, sometimes the transition from the graphics of the first game to the second is imperfect (bleached eyebrows for everyone come to mind).
Additionally, sometimes people want to change some minor detail (say, a nose job... or a hair cut).
Should that not be the case, of course it's fine to leave it untouched.
    2) Start from scratch.
Not recommended if you want fidelity.
    3) You can import the code of your character's face from ME1, and *then* make one or two minor adjustments using that as a template.
It's the solution most people prefer, when they find out it's possible.
But it's also one that a lot overlook because the game isn't clear on how to do it (first choose "custom", then go to code and write your character code in there).

    • @LiteWeightGaming

    Three things I'll recommend before you start;
As always, talk to your crewmates often. It's even more important in this one, so I highly recommend that you make a habit of doing that regularly. It pays off in more ways than one.
Do everything, just like you did in the first game. This includes scanning every planet to pick up additional missions (this part is a lot easier to navigate in 2 than in 1). And make sure to upgrade everything you can.

don't hesitate to use the sassy option if you feel like it. This game is not about choosing the charm option every time, even if you feel YOU would say something sassy. If so, then do it. A Renegade here and there doesn't have a huge impact on the overall story and Renegade Points are not a "punishment" even when you play a positive character. you don't have to have a 100% paragon for the most important storylines. I'm not saying go rouge every time, but being a bitch at some points will give you satisfaction - especially in ME2 and that's what this game is all about :) The first episodes when you chose different options were really cool and there you were your character. choosing the top option every time makes this game very predictable scene after scene and it feels the dissonance when you say I would have chosen this option but you pressing another anyways.

Saren shooting himself isn't a bad thing, Shepard gave Saren the chance to chose his own way out of the situation, Sovereign lost control of Saren in that moment and Saren chose his own way out. What happened next wasn't harming Saren, he was gone it was just a body Sovereign took over.
It was the best thing to happen, Saren took back control of his life at the end and he chose what to do.

Saren's probably my favorite villain in the series. So much nuance buried in his character. The stories we hear make it clear that he's something of an extremist, often non-sympathetic, and certainly not a "great guy." But he's also an idealist, and I do believe that his plan to ally with the Reapers comes from a pragmatic mind that sees no other way for organic life to survive the onslaught. It's his way of saving the galaxy. As he alludes on Virmire, he believes a lifetime of servitude, with the possibility of eventual freedom, is better than no future at all. He thinks he can reason with Sovereign, but he overestimates himself and falls prey to indoctrination, all the while believing he's doing the right thing. You can fight him in the council chamber, but the reason I like the Paragon/suicide ending is because it brings his story full-circle, and it highlights how the real enemy was always Sovereign. As terrible as Saren was, he was simply puppet of the true threat. This sets the stage for the remainder of the series.

I'll remind you this again as you play Mass Effect 2 but remember, DO NOT start the mission named "The Reaper IFF" until you have earned the loyalty of all of your crew members, squad or otherwise whomever can be interacted with. It's like the ME2 version of Virmire.

  • @chateauarusi
    @chateauarusi ปีที่แล้ว +1

❤ I joined late and have just caught up, and it has been an absolute joy and a pleasure to watch you play this game.
The first Mass Effect really sneaks up on you. For most of it, it's engaging but pretty cerebral, a wide-ranging exploration experience with fun characters and interesting lore, a little Star Trek, a little Star Wars, familiar enough to be accessible but unique enough to be fascinating. And then you get to Virmire, where the whole story shifts into a new gear and you realize Mass Effect is definitely doing its own thing. And from there it's just a rocket ride to the incredibly stressful and deeply satisfying climax. It's a slow burn to get here, but the ending is just a powerhouse.
And yeah, if you thought this was intense, the next two chapters are gonna take you for a ride.
I also want to compliment you on your character build and your playstyle. You mentioned at the end how happy you were with your Shepard, and you definitely deserve kudos. I've seen a lot of players who find the mechanics kind of dense and complex, so they just run and gun with their weapons. But you took the time to figure out your powerset and optimize everything to work together, and by the end your Shepard was a combat monster. It's especially great because you're a first-time player; you've really got the flow down. The only thing left to improve is more actively controlling your squadmates, positioning them strategically and using their abilities in coordination with yours. The coming games will put a premium on this.
Another thing: I'm really impressed with your community of commenters here. Mass Effect seems to attract some obnoxious backseaters who firmly believe their playstyles and choices are the best and insist that the streamer is doing it "wrong" if he or she doesn't follow their guidance, but so far it looks like you've got very little of that. People have been supportive with the tips and careful about the spoilers, and it's been great for your play experience. I will say, though, that the temptation for commenters to push for certain story choices is likely to become more intense in the second game, because the consequences of following different paths can be ... severe. People will want to be helpful, they will want to help you achieve the "best" outcome, and that's a well-intentioned motive.
*However,* the magic of Mass Effect, I think, is in exploring the story, figuring out how everything adds up and works together over the course of the trilogy ... and then playing the games again, a second time and a third time and beyond, tweaking choices and character interactions, trying to craft *your* ideal version of the story. My respectful suggestion is to pay attention to the low-level gameplay advice, stuff like how the ammo powers work differently in ME2 than the first game, but try to disregard the really big spoilery tips that say you have to do things a certain way or otherwise (dramatic lightning and thunder outside) *bad stuff* will happen. I'd say, allow yourself to discover the game, and if you don't like an outcome, that's a challenge for the next playthrough.
Mass Effect is probably the most replayable game series I've ever seen. It's just endlessly deep with variations. I've played the first game over twenty times and the whole trilogy end-to-end probably fifteen times over the years, exploring as many different choice combinations as I could think of. And yet, just yesterday, I happened to see a gameplay video showing a major character interaction I'd never seen before and had no idea was possible. It blew my mind.
It's not just an RPG, it's an interactive story where your choices determine the details of the plot. And my mantra is this: if the game lets you do it, then it's not a wrong choice, it's just a *different* choice, and a different story. Is it "wrong" to save Kaidan over Ashley, or vice versa? Of course not. People will argue about which they *prefer,* but that's all it is, a preference. And this goes for everything. Yes, a lot of the potential outcomes hurt, some terribly. That's what the second playthrough is for, and the next after that. This is a franchise to fall in love with.
Terrific stuff. Great videos. Really enjoyable. Looking forward to the rest of your Mass Effect journey. Take care.
P.S. Stock up on waterproof mascara. 😉

      @LiteWeightGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you SO MUCH for this advice! I have a tendency to make decisions that the majority of people don’t make (ie saving Kaiden or killing Balak) and seeing many commenters that feel like I made the wrong choice can make you second guess yourself or feel like you’re playing it “wrong”. It’s not intentional on their part, but just something that happens! So the way you put this was a really great way for me to think about it!! I appreciate it a ton!!

On to one of (if not the ) best video game sequels of all time!
    Some notes for ME2:
-Ammo/Thermal clips: apparently gamers complained about the long time for weapons to cool down so BioWare made all weapons have limited ammo again. The good news is that it's universal running out shouldn't be an issue.
-Hacking: it's one of 2 minigames rather than requiring tech skill/omni-gel.
-Galaxy map exploration: It's much more expansive and there's more to do, such as mine resources for research and weapon upgrades. You do have a limited amount of probes and fuel so make sure you can get back to the system with a Mass Relay!
-Character customization: while you don't have an array of armor or weapons to unlock, you can customize Shepard's existing N7 armor and her casual appearance.

52:10 Tali is actually quite easy to build: She's the ultimate tank, even better than Wrex. The key is her ability to regenerate her shields even under heavy fire. She is squishy at the beginning of the game, but in the endgame she can literally stand out in the open getting shot and still regenerates her shields even on the hardest difficulty. Her armor is important as well of course - for her armor with maximum shields is essential. It takes a lot of enemies to take Tali down.
On top of that she also is the best character for unlocking containers, repairing the Mako and hacking Geth (unless Shepard is an Engineer - that class has pretty much the same abilities as Tali). In my playthroughs except Engineer playthroughs Tali is always a member of my squad in ME1.
PS: Don't feel bad about the sobbing - that only prooves how good the game is and what an amazing job the dev team did. If you don't get emotional about stories and characters that means the game failed to really draw you in.
