Moonstruck is one of the greatest and funniest movies ever. It was superb. Still magnificent nearly 35 years later. Rest in Peace Olympia Dukakis and Danny Aiello. We will miss them.

Cher’s Oscar for Moonstruck was so well deserved. If you watch the clip of her winning, the happiest reaction is from fellow nominee Meryl Streep.
Gene got his wish, too; John Patrick Shanley won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.

The Overboard exchange is classic Siskel / Ebert “it is,” “no it’s not.”
For me, Moonstruck still holds up, now 36 years later-the script, cast, directing.
Even more than exceptional considering what else there was at the time. Including commercials from 1987 helps with that context.

Starting at 4:41, the only two cast members in Moonstruck who are not Italian are the leading ladies Cher, who is half Native American and half Armenian; and Olympia Dukakis, who is Greek.

Moonstruck is def a must see film. Every scene is precious & perfectly crafted by a stellar cast. It won cher & Dukakis Oscar's & cage, gardenia, aiello & john Mahoney are all amazing. The aunt & uncle were each in 2 classics sat night fever as the mom & & the godfather as one of the mob bosses. It's so funny that cage is only 23 & 18 years younger than cher his love interest & 20 something years younger than his onscreen brother . I'd get that age diff if they had the same dads but they have the same moms so mama camararie had a baby when the had a grown 20 something son. The funniest part is it still works. Maybe bc cher is just so ageless & stunning & she at that time dated a 23 year old val kilmer & her bf at the Oscars was 22. I'm with them it's a masterpiece.

Moonstruck is Hilarious with good performance by Cher 👍🌟🌟🌟🌟.
September is also good as well made by Woody Allen who made drama important as comedy 👍🌟🌟🌟.
I agree with siskel on Batteries Not Included, the effects were ok but the storyline is off base 👎🌟🌟.

Overboard is just a bad movie. I agree that if you want some dumb comedy then it's better than most out there, at the time, but there are fer better movies to watch in 87. Obviously it's 'a stupid comedy' film. But if you stop and think about it, it's really fooked up. A guy tricks a mentally ill person into marriage? WTF. Not to mention the kidnapping felony, but there's a whole other very large list of charges, of rape, sexual assault, assault, slavery, etc... Not to mention all these charges are doubled when you take into account they are against a person of diminished capability. He should be serving at least 20 life sentences without parole, if he wasn't given the chair.
