Slingshots by Simple Shot: simple-shot.com?ref=woodedbeardsman
We fire up the slingshots to cull some feral chickens that stopped laying eggs at the off grid cabin in the woods.
Kevin's Channel: • Building Outhouse at O...
These former egg layers chickens have stopped producing eggs so instead of just letting wild predators like coyote, foxes, raccoons and skunks take them down, we decide to turn them into a meal.
Egg laying chickens usually produce eggs for about 2-3 years strong, then they will only lay the occasional egg after that. The chicken feed is very expensive, which is why most egg layers are turned into soup over the winter to make most use of the resources you provide your livestock.
We are using slingshots from simple shot. You can find them on my website here My Gear (Shop and Support): www.thewoodedbeardsman.com/shop/

Some additional video context --->
Kevin raised the chickens as egg layers. They stopped laying, so he let them roam free on the 30 acres (un-closed) rather than feed them. After a while, they started into the bush, further away from the coop, and safety - door open, no restrictions. It was only a matter of time before they got picked off by coyote, coon, or skunk. We are literally overrun by those three predators. That's what I was getting at...maybe I needed to do more explaining, and not assume everyone knew where I was coming from. I hunted them probably 2-3 weeks or so, not sure, after Kevin said they were into the bush...so obviously they were not super scared of people anymore, and were not worried about being shot at - as they are domesticated...instead of chasing after them and stressing them out, or letting that happen by a predator, I took them with Kevin asking me to. He didn't want kill them himself. A head shot was what I was after...to make it quick, so that's why it was harder to shoot them...body shots are not good on such a big bird. Ultimately a well managed chicken flock has new egg layers added each year to replace the older birds with the old ones turning into soup birds...this is what farmers do all around the world, you just don't normally see it first hand.
Congrats on one million man! If there is one person that deserves it, would be you!
So having chickens at the cabin is a good idea but you need to do a little bit more than just turn them loose you need to build them a chicken shed that has some good roost and nest box's so they can feel safe. You have to lock them up in there and feed them in there for at least two weeks if not a month after that you can let them loose and they will never ever spend the night outside that shed. Just make it so there's a doggy door that they can use and a big door for you to use since you can't stay at the cabin 24/7 you need to make it so they can get in and out freely. If you have at least one rooster he'll protect them from predators and they'll even start to hatch their own eggs you'll have plenty of chickens to eat and more eggs then you'll ever want. I know you want to do mostly wild stuff but if you need to make an extended stay at the cabin having chickens in the chicken shed is a lifesaver you do need to feed them in the winter but if you're staying at the cabin they'll eat your table scraps or just about anything especially guts they love guts. Love your videos be safe out there.
Those birds lived their best life free-roaming chickens not in a cage and then when it came time a very quick and painless lights out headshot. That! Folks is the way you do it. if only everyone can see these chicken or turkey Farms. Chickens walking around in their own feces no, not even having enough room to lay down, being forced fed, and given all these antibiotics and growth hormones. So what Chris did in this video today was a million times more humane then your modern day Poultry Farm. So I really hope no one gets upset because you may not be able to see it but if you really think about it the birds that Chris killed definitely lived in Good Life. Very cool video oh, you may have to take Fowler's slingshot course a couple more times. Lol but all in all a very good video as well as educational. Congratulations again on hitting the 1 million subscriber mark. Do you have any special plans or special videos that you're going to put out for hitting that milestone? I guess that is a surprise that we will have to wait for. Really proud of you Chris AKA wood beard and family of course. It's a very hard thing to do capturing nature and all of its beauty and making videos people want to watch it's just a lot harder than people even ever realize. we will see you in the next video The wooded beardsman.
There is a show here in the States, Alaska The Last Frontier. In it one of the family members used a ninja sword to decapitate a goose. You got so close to the chicken you could have done that too. Sling shot was fun to watch though!😁😁😁
Hey why not a pellet gun?
"hunting..." This was like fishing in an aquarium.
Exactly
Mad cause you can't hunt as good as him?
@@southernnathaniel that was hunting?😂 he was 2ft away
@@trillnix3043 if you can hunt the animal and kill it from any distance it's hunting.
@@trillnix3043 and I doubt the guy hunts so he's mad
"Hunting" ppffffff.... missing from 6' away from a domesticated chicken. My Lord.
I feel like it probably would have been easier to just walk up and club the chicken with a stick rather than wasting a bunch of time messing around with a slingshot
What if your leg is broke and can’t move.
@@mikebigyard6568 how would you retrieve the chicken if you couldn't move?
@@mikebigyard6568 his legs not broke idiot
Noooo!!€€€€€€€€€££¥¥¥don't shoot the beautiful chickens I am praying you miss every shot
Well, yes, but then I wouldn't be able to improve on my slingshotting...which obviously is severely required!!!
The neighbor: “have you seen my laying hens? I let them out and they didn’t all come back tonight...”
Seen'em on youtube ...
intro: when the quarantine starts to get to you.
Yep no doubt
Starts....hahahaahah
He IS the quarantine.
🤣
😂😂😂😂 probably the funniest serious video I’ve seen this year.
Slingshot is a normal use for hunting for us.. catching just about anything .. we even shot as the tArget is running... but when i saw u trying to shoot chicken with in less than ten feet i was loughing .. but.... i like watching your video.. keep up the good work and thank u .. im learning a lot from watching u
“wonky donkey”
So here's a video of Chris using his master baiting skills to attract the chickens he's planning on choking 🤣😂
choke that chicken!!
master baiting skills...
Death grip
Oh, you cunning linguist...
Had to laugh at you giving advice on catapult shooting at the beginning of the video 😂😂😂
Look very domesticated for 'feral' bush chickens.
the green army will be along shortly, I would say this video will end up demonetized, taking what looks like rhode island reds out into the forest, sprinkling corn over the ground, then taking potshots at them.
john dalley he did say that his brother put them out there and they had been around people their whole lives
``feral`` as in, don`t tell Kevin lol
@@noname9752 He is obviously lying. These chickens got set free a few minutes before he shot them.
@Medical MJ I don't know how it is in the US but here in Germany that is illegal and for a got reason. It is just childish that one wants to hunt domesticated animals. And when someone lies I do not want to see or hear anything from him. So yes, I won't care anymore now because I leave this channel now.
these chickens are so Feral that they let u walk right up to them lol
Fr he's hunting domestic chickens, this is just plain out psychotic behavior
"Wild chicken".
Lol
Feral, I guess, got them before they turned.
Well, you know what I meant!
Riiight...lmao
You ever been to Hawaii. Millions of feral/wild chickens
@@user-gh8wt2zi2n
Have you ever been to Canada?
Zero of feral/wild chickens, thanks to the bears, cougars, bobcats, wolfs, coyotes, foxes, wolverines, raccoons, minks, weasels just to name a few, do you have them in Hawaii too?
Smh
"Feral" chickens.... riiight 😂
The wooded beardsman's energy in this video though...jeez...looks like he got him some the night before🤣
Was so holding my breathe when you were pulling back the slingshot at the camera 😆
"the chickens have run the coop" I can't lmao this is a good one
Advice from country side how to pluck a chicken: first you must dunk it in a pot with hot boiling water for 5 minutes each, and you will have a clean nice skin and a very easy plucking process.
In my teens me an some friends would go to local market every weekend buy some marbles an go poche pheasants... good old days..
lol
When he made those chicken noises though
I was waiting for other hunters to start shooting him with slingshots.
Just so you know, the coffee grounds Do help rid bugs in the area, saw it on another video, but they layered paper towels and coffee grounds in layers.
It was starting a fire yours was already going so no need for the paper towels.
Rock on dudes
Woods beard this was pure comedy u was close enough to grab the chickens and still couldn't hit a bull in the a** with a sack of rice 😂😂😂😂👏👏👏👏👍👍👍
Well, now let's see if I can get a squirrel in the fall :)
OMG! LOL! I feel sooo wrong watching you walk 4 feet up to a domesticated animal and shooting it with a slingshot. Today I bought a slingshot to support my local sporting goods store. I will buy some more Woodobo and a Boreal saw when I can afford. Stay safe and healthy.
I was thinking the same thing about the chickens
Chicken soup just like my mom used to make when I was young from scratch.
7:48 looks and sounds like the crash bandicoot 'whoa' meme lmao
As usual, loved the video with you and Scott. He's a keeper, Chris. Congratulations on a million.
Man I love your videos. Your survival videos is the reason I got into hunting my own food. Got a rabbit in my back yard last month and felt really proud to be harvesting my own food..thanks for the inspiration bro!
When all this covid crap started I started making machetes out of old hand saw blades. I leave about 14 inches of the teeth on the back for cutting bigger branches. They work pretty good and really hold an edge but I did discover that saw blades get thinner towards the tip so I had to start making them shorter. I have now moved on to making hardwood bows and homemade arrows. Making bows is very humbling to say the least. Im on my 5th bow right now, its glued and clamped out in my shop right now. Only one of the bows has not broken so far.
Are you near any Osage orange or hickory? If you’re near East Tennessee you’re welcome to some of my hickory
Osage Orage is very strong wood. But, it's usually full of knots. That makes the bow "interesting" when it's finished.
Me to but pic pipe
The chickens be like that's a wierd chicken over there
I love slingshots! Every prepper should carry one
11:21 ye man I feel that 😂
"Shove it over a touch" 😂
Kevin says he's building a chicken tractor that is Wooded Beardsman proof. Haha, now I know why he said it.
No worries, I got the a-okay from Kevin, and his wife too!!! They wanted them to go to a good use...better me eat them than a dirty raccoon!
@@TheWoodedBeardsman Much more humane too.
After watching the video I rummaged around the garage and found my slingshot. It hasn’t seen the light of day in couple of years, the bands are still like new and I’ve been plinking cans all afternoon. Thanks for reminding on how fun and deadly they can be. Time to get a few for the niece and nephews.🤙😎
I love these slings. I got 4 scouts and 4 scout lt. Ya finally picking up on the slingshot huh. Great vid Chris... 😃🍺
Collecting colors? Wow that’s a collection!
I was trippin on tabs watching this. Funny as hell lmao
Thank you for listening to your subs, accepting critical feedback and, although you don't have to, accomodate them. I salute you sir
I appreciate all of ya...even when I get somewhat negative...excuse to get better.
I don’t think this guy would know what to do if he saw an actual feral chicken.
Are you sure they are feral cuz they look like they know your yard pretty well
He's hunting domestic chickens, these are not feral. He is being disgusting
I really love these videos! They are all so ASMR. Also it inspired me to go buy a fishing rod and actually take advantage of the resources we have here in Norway. Clean lakes, big fish, too much commercialism (or however you spell it). Got some tricks for those rainbow trouts? Love your videos!
That is awesome!
I’d use mepps spinners if they have em over there
The chicken whisperer! surprised you didn't get all the chickens running in after that stellar performance
Bruh, chicken whisperer? While he kills chickens
I use wrist rockrts, slingshot that has a thing that goes over the wrist, to help support, i been shooting them since i was about 14, im 39 now, my parents live on a 4 acre property, i used to shoot squirels eat the meat and sell the tails, my parents property buts up to a gun/archery range, i used to go back there and shoot at the targets to practice, and a dude was bavk there shooting archery told me hed give me 5 bux a squirel tail, wed meet at target 13 every sunday lol
I'm thinking of starting a youtube channel, where I catch & cook Silver Salmon. My hair is Silver so, I'm thinking of calling my channel "The Silver Survivalist". It was suggested I use the proper name, of Coho, but than Silver looses it's double meaning. I could call it "Coho Videos". Maybe shorten it to "Co-Vids". I think it could go Viral. ;)
FULL STOP!
“Silver Lining Survival” would be cool lol
Make a channel lol
You never made the salmon catch and cook videos :(
Just ordered some coffee, thanks for the 30% off! Super excited for this!
Pure comedy! Dude chasing a chicken with a slingshot. He's not much bigger than the chicken, which makes it even funnier. Also, I'm now hungry for roast chicken.
Extreme camping with the boys
Hahaha you probably could've just ran up to those things
30 acres of bush though, so not interested in scaring them off chasing them only to have to wait for them to come back next day!!
Then? Shooting is just so clean, and done.
The chicken hunt had me dying laughing! Good stuff man 😂
With all due respect, my grandfather was probably the greatest slingshot marksmen of the last century. Would not have wanted to be a small critter causing problems if he had his slingshot at hand. Still have the last one he was finishing before he died, was using the fork of a deer antler. I need to finish it, but, don't think it would be right for me to shoot it.
Fun fact: Adobo is actually a filipino spice
Chicken adobo
Chicken spicy adobo😋
Fun fact. We dont care
This is Woodobo... so.....
FAM ITS A DISH NOT A SPICE
I feel kinda bad for the chickens but again they probably will be killed by coyotes
You have to dip the chicken in some hot water before plucking the feathers. The hot water allows the feathers to come off without damaging the skin.
Feral Chicken!!! Ha.. Ha.. Ha... This sure is a funny video, he made 'tracking & hunting' the feral chickens so difficult for himself
Sorry pal but you shouldn’t be hunting with a slingshot unless you’ve gained some skills🤷🏻♂️
Grain.... not grand. I do apologise.
If you hold your hand out with oatmeal pouring between your fingers they will come running to eat from your hand
Then you just grab them and twist the neck around
No slingshot necessary
The chickens : though I walk the valley of death, I shall fear no evil
Love how he’s sneaking up to the chicken while 5 feet away. He probably could of grabbed it with his bare hands.
ok karen
@@ruizdarcyl9101 why you call me Karen? I’m just saying it’s not really hunting if the animal is your pet.
He’s got to be the worse shot I’ve ever seen lol 😂
This is the most irresponsible hunting I’ve ever seen. You need
To be accurate for the sake of your game.
The best way to hunt a pet chicken.
I'll take it. 13 minutes until anything from anyone else other than you is a win in my book
Well done and congratulations on your big milestone. Dang, that was good slingshot shooting and that chicken soup looks sooooo good. Yeah, bring Scott back for a squirrel hunt. I had a giggle watching this, awesome video fullstop. 👍
It's the acting like a chicken in the start for me😂😂😂
Wrap ur cord around all 3 poles 2 times tie a knot, take ur center pole, an flip it 360 degrees , tightens up sturdy. Simple
Frontier coffee is coffee with eggshells in it. Makes it smooth.
Congratulations your channel has acquired one million subscribers..
You have created, tweaked and produced very well rounded material for the "Bushcraft Community".
Thanks!!!
Congratulations on hitting the million mark! Chicken and dumplings are what I now got a hankerin for. Great vid. Keep on creating em.
These aren't feral bush chickens,, these are domesticated chickens of your own😀😂
Ffs the coffee is a subscription lol.
Lol!!😃😃 Fowler would have been finish eating by the time you got one!!!
Lmao!! The Canadian chicken dance! Cant stop laughing. Awesome.
Congrats wood beard A.K.A. the g.o.a.t 1 million! That's just amazing man. Hard work and persistence pay off is what you have taught us. So so happy for you and the Family. Good on you pal!
Thanks Coop!
@@TheWoodedBeardsman oh geez you're very welcome man you highly deserve a ton of praise for what you and the fanily have done in just over a year with TH-cam. It would be cool to see the 1 million subcriber plaque at the cabin Maybe. It sounds like from the most recent video that Kevin might be using that cabin to do his own channel. but yeah man I hope you hang that thing up where you can be proud of it and that we can see it once in a while! Great job all around I have thoroughly enjoyed every single mini series and episode whether it's hunting season or maple syrup season, it's all been gold content to me and to a lot of others Hugh I am sure. So please don't slow down anytime soon we always love your ideas of what videos to film. You now have a major footprint in the outdoor niche of TH-cam and that's great buddy I am so happy for you. Now I'm to the video
This is like miniature golf for hunters
I got really excited for nothing. I thought the chickens would be crazier than roadrunners.
Im loving the videos with Scott!! Keep it up man, love the videos!
wild chicken: *gets shot at*
also wild chicken:
that chicken be weaving them shots though. straight matrix
Chicadee Chinese the Chinese chicken...🍗🍲😋
The chickens didn't laid eggs ,how ironic😂😂.good video again beardsman,en congrats for the 1 mill subs,in no time you be at the 2 mill subs if you do this cool and inovative things nobody els do!💪
Anytime i make fresh chicken soup shortly after harvesting them it takes max 3 hrs to break down into a delicious tender bird
I think that's about how long we did.
The Wooded Beardsman 👍 stay safe
Thank you for protecting us from the dreaded feral chickens..lol
Congratulations The Wodded Beardsman for 1M.
Those older chickens are tough, but they have the best taste for soup. Herbert Hoover would be proud of you. When he ran for President, he promised "A chicken in every pot". This was so good, I had to watch it twice so, FULL STOP! again
7:41
To catch the chicken you must become the chicken.
22,20, thats just nerves boys, got him! tim wells thinks he's the baddest predator on the planet, the wooded beardsman takes some beaten, love it!!
Free chicken! Do a cow next.. you may need a bigger slingshot though 😉
Dude Kevin's channel is totally awesome I love it!!!👍👍👍💪💪💪
Your chicken impression is a riot, man. It's like, I'd be fooled... if you were about five and a half feet shorter and covered in feathers, but you're kind of not.
The pope drinks coffee from Puerto Rico...plenty of feral chickens here too.
Full Stop, that soup looks amazing, so jaleous right now!
Try setting the bands on the side of the fork instead of over the top, I like the scout slingshots set up that way
Also you can pick up a do-it slingshot mold and make lead ammo for hunting
You didn’t shot a wild chicken man, you shot your own chicken. That’s crazy.
Scotty's your Right hand Man for sure!!! Greetings from st.Thomas!!!
Almost pissed my self with your chicken impersonation 🤣🤣 awesome 💯💯
There was a mountain back home that had an old steep winding road the chicken trucks used to use before interstates came along. Crates were always falling off or trucks tipping over. There was freaking wild chickens all over that mountain. You woulda had fun overload up there lol. They would run from you at least.
Cool man,the next step on the challenge can be the rock sling
Its not an easy weapon to use...
I love the way Scott compliment a food or etc🤣
super excited for kevin's channel
I heard from a friend that whole purring and feet scratching is how you attract roosters for mating
Lmao 😂 you can hear the chicken in the back 12:56 what are u doing boy
long time fan, gotta say this is funny... stalking a domestic chicken lol
I learned to shoot a sling by Dennis the menace lol ;)
