our generator came with a plastic extension pipe that screws into oil cap to change the oil

Briggs and Stratton make a oil change kit. It has a 2L bottle with a pump and siphon hose attached. In Australia it costs less then $40 and is fantastic for oil changes in any 4 stroke motor. No spilt oil !

Hi Ian. I'm in Aus also. Just did a maintenance check today, basically all of what was described in this video. Everything looked good. I tried kicking it over with no luck. In this video, once the side panel is off, the 3 inch tubular 'resovier' tank top left under the choke. Should I be seeing this filled with fuel?? It doesnt appear to have anything at all. Hence Im thinking this reason for no start.

Excellent video. I just bought the P3000 from Amazon...mainly due to your input..will follow up with feedback, if I remember to do so. I have solar on my rig, and we're going up to Yellow Stone and Custer State Park, probably won't need the AC...but you never know. Danke.

I just bought one largely due to their reviews, too. I found it on Ebay today by mistake. Well, not exactly mistake but I googled it and happened upon one that was in the final 30 minutes of bidding! LOL. It's mine now. I got a great deal. I hope it is what they claim it is. New, in other words.

I looked at the manual for my Duramax 4400 generator, and it says that the oil only needs to be changed when it gets dirty or contaminated......how does one relate that to hours? Thanks for the great video guys.

I'm thinking that exposure to sunlight would be the biggest enemy of your generator cover.

In the Army we would call this a Small Generator Device, Oil Change, Field Expedient. Local Manufacture, No FST. ( Federal Stock Number)
The rule was, if it’s stupid, but it works, it’s not stupid.

You really didn't need to wrap the paper roll with foil. As little oil in the generator it would have worked just fine without the foil.

use a fish tank siphening tube... it has a wide end that will be about the size of the paper towel tube, but then has a smaller tube to direct it to the pan... n they are cheap.. thanks for the video! :)

So one question about this please - the generator we bought a few weeks ago and haven't fired up yet comes with dire warnings about starting it indoors. Something to do with imminent death? So do you vent the generator to the outside, leave the garage door open and leave - how do you avoid fatal asphyxiation?

Hey Guys, I have been looking for Generators and was nearly settled on the Yamaha, and then seen you had a few videos on the Briggs and Stratton ( p3000). One of the items of concern for me, is the draining of the carb, after use and in the case it may be some time before using again. I have not seen anything anywhere. Do you have some information on this. Many thanks in advance.

    • @LongLongHoneymoon

The foil is not needed for no more oil than you have there. Also if you tilt the gen the opposite direction while taking out the oil plug and then install the tube and then tilting the generator towards the drain side to empty... sounds like a plan.. lol

    • @plweekley

Most of the modern engines are mostly aluminum. The only ferrite to ferrite that would wear would be the camshaft/crankshaft timing gears. So a magnet would be of minimal use.

Sean, what are you doing letting Kristi get involved with "man's work"? Let alone letting her add good ideas? Pretty soon "they", the women, will figure out that they don't need us for these things and we'll be obsolete!

Youre holding the oil bottle wrong while pouring it. They are designed to be held like this (so it doesn't glug):
