      It's cool how they're making the Empire really terrifying and efficient in this show so far. Certainly refreshing after years of dumbing down the Empire so much by Disney.

      @@matheuss886 same, I also like that they are actually using the empires foot soldiers, rather than stormtroopers, since they are the empires special forces.

    I love how this is the first time in four episodes we've seen TIE fighters, and it was literally just for 3 seconds.
    Sparing use of the iconography...I like it.

      Also following the formula of using realistic camera angles and ships + Sci fi spectacle entering/exiting frame, being partially obscured etc. etc.
      Nothing is more boring that seeing a CGI camera tracking shot of an entire ship flying from all angles, just makes you aware instantly that you’re watching an animation and pulls you straight out of immersion.
      Denis Villeneuve’s Dunes have the same philosophy. The ships and explosions make you feel dwarfed in the cinema, like you would have to crick your neck just to see the whole object in its scale, like you have to turn your entire head to catch a jet or missile moving across the screen.

    The sound design is excellent in this scene. Their engines are muted by the surrounding terrain, so you don't realize how close they are until it's almost too late. And then that deafening roar as they explode out into full view.

    I like how you can spot the TIEs from afar if you know where to look. The first time around you'll probably be too focused on Andor and Vel.

    One of the really great details in the sound design here is that even before Clem says "wait, hold on" and you can see the tie fighters in the background, you can actually /hear/ them as well even before they appear visually in the background, the frequencies are very high, so they're difficult to hear for most people, but you can already hear the droning sound of flight becoming more audible at 0:02
    As someone who only got into Star Wars in 2020, Star Wars Andor has to be my favourite piece of media in the franchise, because it is so full of love and attention to detail, even in very subtle areas like these

    It just proves again the Ties are not built for stealth or surprise attacks. They are too loud more for intimidation I think,. Love their sound though.

    Maybe this is a good show but meh, I am so tired of Disney Star Wars. Milking the franchise without any creativity. Finding it tiresome with the whole tie fighters, the empire, rebels, X-wings, Vader etc over and over. Would get me interested if they just created something fresh. Star Wars in a different time period would fit the bill.

    • @owenreynolds9599

      While I get your complaints about Disney Star Wars, I would still recommend giving this a watch. Pretty much everything feels fresh and new, to the point where it almost doesn't feel like Star Wars because it strays so far from the Action Space Opera tropes. Far better than Kenobi and Boba Fett for sure. To me it feels like a legends book on screen, but I get the want for something in a completely different era.

      Last Jedi was fresh, they did lots of new things in that movie, and Disney got TONS of hate. The fans will never be appeased until their bs EU get's canonized again.

    • @celebrim1
      @celebrim1 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@solarcry287 The Last Jedi got hate not because it was fresh, but because was more poorly written than an average episode of the GI Joe cartoon. The opening sequence ranks up among the worst ever committed to film, Leia and Luke's character was savaged and the originally trilogy fully undone, the characters continued to have irrational motivations to the point of becoming unlikeable, the side quests were beyond pointless, the plot stupid, and the few nice story beats in the film ("But not to me") and ("Literally every word you just said was wrong.") overshadowed by the hours of stupidity.
