That, is THE definition of adventure. It helps us understand the RE Himalayan. It wasn't designed as a hores power monster, it was designed to be a sure footed mule with enough horse power, but tractable torque that won't launch you over the edge of that crazy cliffy, mountain road.

I went to Ladakh with my cousin. He rented a Tirumph Tiger and I choose a RE classic since it was cheap and satisfied my budget. The Tirumph dominated the soft terrain at lower attitudes even my cousin got overlemed by its raw power and handling. As the altitude increased, Tirumph found it hard to breath due to decrease in oxygen level and even the engine got knocked off at times. But the worst part was while crossing a small stream my cousin accidently slipped alongwith the bike and tripped a relay in the FI system of the tiger. It was very complicated and hard to repair the ignition system of a triumph. We had to remove a dozen of Allen bolts to uncover the FI housing finally fixed it after 4 hours in that cold weather. In the overall trek, the only problems I faced in the RE were the vibrations at lower RPMs. It is a jack of trades and most importantly you don't need phd in mechanical engineering to repair a RE... No electronic crap..
    P. S... I only choose a RE classic because all the himalayans in that Rental shop were pre-booked.

That road is perfect for an underpowered bike like the himalayan. Wonder what would have happened if it was a KTM or a Tiger or a BMW or Africa Twin. With the amount of power it would have thrown the bike off the cliff.

Higher powered bikes with fancy electronics may offer the rider a more effortless and sure-footed ride, but the RE in its simplicity and tough workhorse build gives the rider more ‘kick’ in experiencing the challenges along the trail no matter under what terrain. This bike has got real character, sort of a Land Rover Defender of bikes, IMHO.
