Used to take my kids to Lakeside when we lived in Colorado. It's a shame the owners don't have the money to really properly maintain and run the park. It is a gem of yesteryear and the kind of Amusement park I used to love as a kid. Would love to see the park fully restored, wish I had the money to do it.
@@teresaroger8826 I first went there in 1980 or 1982. It was run down back then but now it is Krabby Land. By the way you describe her she must be Mrs. Krabs. (Sorry for the SpongeBob theme but it seems to fit.) Last year I heard Elitches is getting kicked off their lot. They should have left it where it was.
It was! They had a big record player that a crowd of people jammed onto and the "Fun House Controller" spun it around super fast until only one person was left and they were declared the winner.
They had a rolling barrel that had sections that changed directions several times and you would fall down in there and get stuck; until someone drug you out.
That same Lakeside Fun House also had compressed air that would shoot out of holes in the floor (thanks to the controller) and blow up the girls dresses and startled you, keep in mind this was the 60's... we learned to hold our skirts down tight while in there; (dirty young/old men)...
Fun fact: Lakeside Amusement Park was one of the amusement parks featured on the PBS documentary Great Old Amusement Parks back in the late 90s. It opened in 1908 and was originally named White City and the train that goes around the lake was brought in from the 1904 St Louis World's Fair so it's older than the park itself.
30 years ago they used to maintain Lakeside really well and everything was working and it was crowded. I spent a lot of time at Lakeside in the 70s and 80s, and the original Elitch Gardens which was so much better than Lakeside. Good memories. Thanks Adam!
My grandfather worked at Lakeside in the 50's so I went there and to the racetrack a lot. There was a very loud Laughing Sal over the fun house door that still haunts my memories. Thanks for this video, Adam. 🙂
I was so sick of that laughing lady; to this day I can still hear it, the only bad thing that I remember about Lakeside. Even the "Chipmunk" ride was fun, though rough.
Thank you for posting an honest and positive video about Lakeside! Too many times people, even locals, badmouth Lakeside and judge it by it's looks calling it an eyesore or a dump in some cases sometimes without even having visited before. Sure, it has seen much better days and needs quite a bit of work, but it is still very much a fun place to visit and ride some classic rides. It has charm, and as a Colorado native it has been my favorite summertime activity since I was little. It is really unique and remains a very special part of Denver, especially considering its previous rival amusement park, Elitch Gardens, relocated from it's original 1890 location in 1994. Up until then Elitch Gardens was mere blocks away from Lakeside and both parks were quaint older family run amusement parks. Then Elitch's decided to relocate to downtown Denver, losing all of it's own charm and destroying 104 years of Denver history in the process. What is really cool about Lakeside is that it has been run by the same family since 1935. It is owned by Rhoda Krasner and her daughter Brenda helps run the park. They really are nice people and are passionate about what they do. Unfortunately Rhoda can be stubborn and routinely turns down most outside efforts of help, whether it be restoration campaigns or even fundraising to help the park. If I had the means and if she'd be more open to outside assistance, I'd love to donate to help fix the walls, repaint, and re-light the tower of jewels for starters. I really wish this place could become a national landmark. It truly deserves it for a multitude of reasons not limited to Denver historical significance. It's really too bad you went when the Cyclone was down. That's the most iconic and popular ride in the park. It really is a fun classic wooden roller coaster! Unfortunately it has been down all season this year and most of the season last year due to a accident and lawsuit from a rider who didn't follow instructions and apparently injured himself. This has really hurt the park, and the Cyclone will likely never operate the same way again, but will likely return, hopefully next season! Anyways, love your content! Keep up the great work, and thanks for going to Lakeside with an open mind! Glad you enjoyed your visit and liked this hidden Denver gem!
When I was 16 (in the 70’s), I went to Lakeside almost every week for the whole summer!! This brought back such great memories!!! The place hasn’t changed much😁
Same here! Though not quite as often as once per week. But a few times a summer, my group of friends and family kids would be dropped off for the entire day. My personal favorite attraction was the funhouse. It wasn't unusual to spend 2 to 3 hours in there. I was one of the older kids, so was also responsible for the younger ones. I think I went to Elitches maybe 4 times total, compared to at least 100 times for Lzkeside. We loved Lakeside!
Art Deco reached it's height of popularity in the 1920's era. The 1950's/1960's drive in marquee type building style was different than Art Deco, n the Art Nouveau was early 1900's up to 1920's Art Deco period. This Lakeside amusement park is one of the coolest places I have ever seen!!! The rides, amazingly enough, are still running and they are originals that you don't see anymore. This entire jewel 💎 of a park 🏞️ is a classic span of decades of different era decor n building n technology!!! What a great choice!!!! Attaboy, Adam the Woo!!!! Wonderful video!!!
Most of the art deco in this park was made in the late 1930's to the mid 1940's at the tail end of the art deco era. Some later 1950's and 1960's stuff lightly played off of the earlier art deco stuff to create a very constant environment. Definitely is a jewel!
The 60's were the hay days of Lakeside (in north Denver) along with the old original Ellitch Gardens that they unfortunately tore down and built a new one in downtown Denver. I rode the Wild Chipmunk ride and sprained my ankle, it was a very rough ride and I was 7, maybe too small for the ride. I loved the train around the lake. The wooden coasters scared the crap out of me!. Too bad that no one has come in to fix it up to what it once was.
It definitely is rough around the edges. I agree that the 1960's and I'd argue even into the early 1970's were the park's golden years. After that it has been downhill with many challenges and unfortunate sacrifices, like the Fun House, but at least they didn't move like Elitch Gardens. It could use a lot of work, but if you really look every year you will notice little fixes that go on in the background in the winter. They are bringing back the Roll O Plane and Heart Flip!
I've lived in Colorado my whole life (41 years old) and been to Lakeside many times growing up. It's sad to see it in such disrepair. But I am so glad the Chipmunk is still working. I'd go there just to ride that ride! That said, my joints might not love that ride so much, its a crazy little ride!
That was FUN! That place would be a great place for a period piece film. I really imagined the sights & sounds of yesterday at the amusement park! Loved that place!!! Sad your parents had to leave, it's always nice having them along!!! Colorado, is turning out to be quite the state!!! 👍👍
I remember growing up in the early 80s and 90’s and my dad used to take us every other weekend. It was a blast every single ride I remember great memories.❤❤❤
Lakeside is awesome, especially at night with the lights on! It really does feel like going back in time. Too bad the Cyclone wasn't running, it's a great coaster. And the spooky abandoned speedway next door just adds to the atmosphere
Lakeside was the bees knees back in the 60s-70s. During the summer as a kid our parents would take us there & to (the old) Elich Gardens. 😊 The good ol days.
Native of Denver…I used to go to lakeside clear back in the late 50s…lol. They use to have a gigantic laughing woman that would constantly laugh. All good things eventually come to an end. Thank you for bringing back such wonderful memories. So great to have you here in Colorado. Come back again.
Deep fried mushrooms are one of my faves! Yum! The Carpetbagger says Kennywood Park near Pittsburgh is one of his favorite parks and has lots of its old time rides from the 1930’s- many more than here and innPittsburgh, they all work as the park has been kept up! You need to go to Kennywood !Take Jacob with you!
Good morning Adam 🌞 thanks for sharing, have fun on the vacation. Glade to see you and the family. Its been a blast on seeing them on video. Take care.
I enjoy when you do an in- depth visit to one area- keep it up! You really gave us so many things to see in the Pueblo area! Do the same for Pittsburgh PA- it’s so much more than just Mr .Rogers, though we love and miss him ! You did such an emotional blog from the Mr.Rogers museum in the “Burgh”!
Thanks for a great video! So many memories of going there in the 60's. My favorite was the Fun House. A creepy laughing person "welcomed" you as you entered. The Cyclone was an awesome wooden coaster that scared me every time I went down the first big drop; the anticipation of going up the big hill only added to the experience, then the immediate left turn at the bottom and getting smashed against the side of the car. Great memories of growing up in Denver!
I was there also in the 90s like 1994 Denver and Boulder with my family I'm the youngest the third. It was great and my first time in Colorado. I would to return there to see it again and other stuff.
What a gorgeous slice of art deco deliciousness. I just want to fix up all those rides myself. Last chance to preserve these wonderful show rides from yesteryear I would say.
Went there a million times back in the 90's when my family went out west for vacation. The place was PACKED every night and all of the rides worked. Ahh the memories. I guess it reopened in 2021. Sad to see the shape it's in now. Those old rides are absolute gems. If you notice when driving in Denver, the streets are all in alphabetical order. It made it so easy to remember where you are.
Always so interesting, your travels...going to all these towns of yesteryear, and the old relics...those were the fun days...and 5.00 to get in...what a Deal!! at least its still open, most of the rides working, most of these Amusement Parks..are closed by now. ...Awe, the cute Bunny....Have Fun, Miss you in Celebration...Be Safe Have Fun!!
Hi there. Going back to Lakeside takes me back to my childhood. Our mom & our aunt would take us there all the time growing up. How in God's green earth can they keep that place open. Holy cow!! Loved joining the two of you. Thank you for taking us along. ❤
So glad you got to experience Lakeside, Adam!! My dad grew up in the area and would go there and to the original Elitch Gardens Amusement Park, that closed in 94. I know one day this place will be lost to time as well, but good to see it’s still standing.
Adam, those rides looks so fun, really enjoyed your awesome and cool video! Thank you for taking me along with you! I love your awesome vlogs and can't wait till your next one. Adam, YOU ROCK!!!!!!
Your in my home town! I’m here in Lakewood Colorado and went to lakeside every year with friend and also their kids! Glad to see it’s still used! I pass it every so often and I miss it so much! The best park ever. Thank you for sharing
Brought back memories of the 50’s and60’s when I was a kid. The Whip was my favorite at Savin Rock West Haven Ct. Thanks Adam. Your a good son to make memories with your parents. God bless.
The cyclone Rollercoaster was crazy, it would whip you right over a turn right by the lake, it used to make you feel like you're going into the lake lol. Great memories as a kid
Thanks for the memories, haven't been at Lake side for about 50 years, seeing the same rides was awesome, too bad the fun house wasn't there any more. There was a race way next door where my dad drove, so went a lot.👍👍😉🐾🐾
I was there in 1958, I was 7 years old. So my son took me there July 2024, just a few days ago. I didn't even realize it still existed. What an amazing experience. 😊
Damn, that amusement park was awesome. Just looking at the ride/sign designs from the 1950/1960s is worth the admission. I wish there was more signage lit up. I hope it remains open until I'm able to check out Colorado, because you can get some great pictures at t this park. LOVE old neon. Can't get enough of it.
It really is a cool place. I've been going since I was a kid and it really is stuck in time for the most part. Only a few things have changed in 20 or even 30 years, and that's rare in most parks these days. Fridays and weekend days are always a much better time to visit as more is open and more lights are on. There are always some lights out, but that's just how it is with these vintage lit buildings and rides, plus neon isn't cheap. It likely isn't going away immediately, but definitely come check it out as soon as you find the opportunity! It's future is very uncertain.
The old amusement parks like that are pretty much gone now. It looks like that one is on its way out too. Very reminiscent of the amusement parks near St. Louis, the Chain of Rocks Amusement Park, and Holiday Hill. Both now just a distant memory. It was a time for me when we could escape the everyday doldrums of our youth, and have a blast. Cotton candy and popcorn. Even a soda, which we rarely got. Too bad they are not keeping up some of the bigger rides. I’m sure the roller coaster needs structural reinforcement, but what a draw it would be to the park! Looks like fun!
It definitely is one of the last parks of it's kind. It slowly is going away, but the fact that rides aren't taken down and never seen again is a somewhat good sign. The Cyclone is down because of an accident that apparently happened last year and has prevented them from operating it. A ride supposedly didn't follow the safety instructions and the park's insurance on the coaster likely skyrocketed even if it wasn't their fault. In 20 years last year and this year have been the only times it has been closed, and it definitely has affected guest attendance.
That park looks like you stepped back in time…this is so dang cool!!!! The chipmunk coaster looks like my favorite. If this park was up at 100% functionally it would bring loads of money. Beautiful art deco and neon 🤩
The problem is that most of Denver just doesn't care anymore like they did in the past decades. It really is special and unique to Denver. So many people assume the worst without even going to see for themselves and giving it a fair chance.
@@MisterTwister1964 the excuse that people don’t care about older things is tiring and just lazy assumption. People are busy. People literally have less free time and extra money now than ever before. We are always working and it’s never enough. It isn’t that people cared more about an amusement park years ago. It’s that people had the time and resources to do things that are only for leisure.
@@willb.383 That may be true that people don’t have as much time, but Lakeside is dirt cheap. It’s $5 to get in and you can buy tickets around 50 cents a piece for a chosen amount of rides or bands with unlimited rides for $30. Yet everyone goes to Elitch Gardens. I wonder why? Maybe because it seems nicer yet isn’t in many ways, like having crappy rides that break down and no significant maintenance done on rides often enough to keep them running reliably. There’s always trash too as well as basically no landscaping. Lakeside has wonderful shade trees and even some gardens. Elitch Gardens is more expensive. Gate entry is $60 often $70 even. Maybe because it’s the “newer” park yet repeatedly is a huge disappointment because it is run extremely poorly and has little to no investment. Another comment I put somewhere else on this video is true, and that’s that most people think of it as an ugly eyesore and often don’t even visit once.
@@willb.383 Do you think money grows on trees? You have to invest to get money back. That’s how this works. They don’t make enough to invest as much as bigger parks. You can’t just magically make a bunch of money. They also do a much better job keeping their rides in working order because they are older and were built to last. Unlike the crappy newer rides they have at Elitch Gardens which constantly face downtime for tons of mechanical issues and staffing issues since they struggle badly to even staff half of their park on any given day.
The last time I saw Lakeside was on a PBS special about Great Old Amusement Parks and at that time (Circa 1994ish) the place was still in beautiful condition and to see the state it’s in now is just depressing as all get out! How sad. 😢
I also love this park very much as a little kid back then and got to work there in 1988 to 1997 and Roda herself at that time I was her No. 1 employee to work with back then from where you were it was called the casino theater many years ago and now it's storage space; in 1997 was my last year there and they let me run the rides all over the entire park and had a blast indeed!! Very good memories and seeing these videos they are still keeping the park going every year... thanks for the video it was fantastic!!!
I went here as a little kid in the mid to late 1970s. I remember there used to be an anamatronic lady at the top of the funhouse that would have this booming, bellowing laugh and look down on the crowd as they passed. Out in front of the park there is a lake filled with catfish, and if you threw anything into the water, thousands would swarm to it. And the lights at this park looks really nice at night. It was a fun amusement park, and I'm happy to see that it's still somehow open.
The Whip, is one of the Most classic old amusement park rides out there!! Popular mostly between the late 1930s to mid 1950s. I'm not exactly quite old enough to truly remember them all that well, I was born in 1965, and just recently had my 58th birthday. I vaguely remember riding One in my entire life, and I was somewhere between the ages of 7 and 10 years old when that happened, at a then Very old roadside amusement park on Staten Island, New York where my Grandmother, my Dad's Mom lived at the time, I was living in NJ, by that point. I've Always Loved amusement parks & rides, am a Huge Coaster buff, and have Always had an interest in the history of the old classic amusement parks & the rides that they made famous & that made them famous, like the Cyclone roller coaster at Coney Island, which I've gotten to ride a few times. In fact, recently, for my 58th birthday, I spent, and enjoyed 3 days in Sandusky, Ohio at Cedar Point running through the rides there. It actually reminded me A Lot of both the seaside Boardwalk places that I've been to all up & down The Jersey Shore Points, and a bit also of Playland Amusement Park, in Rye Beach, New York which I've also been to several times as a kid, and one of my days there I devoted to seeking out and riding all of their classic rides, that are mostly just found at carnivals anymore, The Tilt-A-Whirl, The Scrambler, The Spider/Octopus, The Flying Bobsleds, and The Himalayan, and Loved Every Minute Of It!! Also rode their Carousel once each of the 3 days I was there in the park. Sadly they Did Not Have A Whip Ride there though, and I was hoping they would. I'm actually Very surprised this Lakeside Park you were at had a working version of one, occasionally if you happen to get to see into the boneyard area of an older amusement park, you might get to see the taken apart skeleton or cars from one, but that's about it, showing that they Used to have one at one time, but no more.
I’m so glad I spent a couple of my childhood summers going to Lakeside every weekend! Probably 199-2001. Back then some of those rides were still running, like the Ferris wheel and the Cyclone. The Cyclone was my favorite wooden coaster, and way better than what they had at Elitch Gardens! We always went to Lakeside instead because it was way cheaper.
I myself have frequented the park since around that time as well. Grew up going and riding all of the rides in Kiddieland as a kid, slowly graduating to the Whip, Satellite, train, and Cyclone over the years as I grew up. One of my favorite places! It definitely has seen a decline since then, but luckily it is still around for now!
I love Lakeside! I grew up going there and to Elitch Gardens! I was visiting home and also hit Lakeside, I must have missed you only by a couple of days! Hope you enjoyed my home state!
How fun! Reminds me of my childhood going to a similar amusement park in my hometown, Camden Park in Huntington, WV, opened in 1903...one of the oldest wooden coasters still today
My brother and I worked there the summer of 1996. Their chili cheese fries were amazing! The old wooden coaster was up and running about every other week back then. They were constantly working on it and making repairs. Good times!
I remember going to Lakeside once. It's still has that same old-timey vibe I remember from back in the 80's. Definitely deader than I remember it. Was very active when I went. However, glad to see it's still open.
Native Coloradan since 1971!! ❤ The Lakeside speedway was shut down during the late 1980's after a race car flipped and landed in the racer family grand stands!! 😢 During the 1970's a person stood up before the tunnel on the Cyclone Rollercoaster and was beheaded!! 🥹 I miss the train that went around the lake!! ✌ #davesandersstepdaughter
Great video! I hope you get a chance to see Seven Falls in Colorado Springs before you head out. It's quite a sight, especially at night when each falls is lit up a different color!

Great video! Love those old amusement park rides and games as well. May God bless your travels and travelling mercies for your parents return home.
Awesome another great video I-watch all of your videos Thank you.
Morning bro ✌️😎that Art deco look and Old Neon is so Cool there
I was in Denver back in the 90s. It’s so beautiful there
I was there also in the 90s like 1994 Denver and Boulder with my family I'm the youngest the third. It was great and my first time in Colorado. I would to return there to see it again and other stuff.
What a gorgeous slice of art deco deliciousness. I just want to fix up all those rides myself. Last chance to preserve these wonderful show rides from yesteryear I would say.
Love all the art deco, md century, and neon! So awesome.
The ride on the Satellite was so fun! It is a great ride - just like it was when I first rode it when I was 10 (60 now!).
I love to see these videos when you in my part of the world. I'm glad that you got to check out Lakeside. I haven't been since before covid.
Good morning from Gatlinburg TN Smoky Mountains Park Mr Woo..🏞️🐻🌄
Love the amusment park
Good show Adam love the fact I can see parts of the country through your videos that I will probably never see .... keep up the good work!!!
May I thank you for this amazing post.
Cool Park Thanks Adam 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
i can tell SOOO many lakeside stories!!!
Good evening Mr Adam the Woo. Thank you for the vlog. Great content. Enjoyed☺️
This place looks wonderful and needs preserving forever
God bless.
Another great video and a look at the gems 💎 of A🇺🇸
❤ have fun and enjoy
It almost looks Defunct... The WHIPP Rides were Cool, I remember them from the 1970's they were common rides back then.
The cyclone Rollercoaster was crazy, it would whip you right over a turn right by the lake, it used to make you feel like you're going into the lake lol. Great memories as a kid
old school amusement park I remember the whip when I was a kid. All of those are old rides ! The round up yes !
That amusement park looks like a riot, gotta love the old school parks like this one that are still around!
Shame that it ain’t maintained my favorite amusement park
How sad to see the Park in such a state of disrepair back in the day it was so awesome
I'm glad that I can't see it.
Thanks for the memories, haven't been at Lake side for about 50 years, seeing the same rides was awesome, too bad the fun house wasn't there any more. There was a race way next door where my dad drove, so went a lot.👍👍😉🐾🐾
Amazing place!!! This video put tears in my eyes! Gotta go there!
Signs are even earlier... like 30s
@@dana3975 Most are 40's or 50's with some 1960's like the Satellite.
The Old West Town is awesome!!! What a find!!!
Lakeside was a beautiful place when I was there several times the 80's Everything was working
another great video all love stay safe tomorrow
If the park would bring in loads of money, they wouldn’t have an issue keeping the rides in working order.
How sad. 😢
That amusement park , how ever dilapidated , was awesome !!
I grew up riding the Whip, lots of fun. If you like old parks you need to check out Kennywood park near Pittsburgh.
I can’t believe Adam had never seen that old Whip”- Kennywood has always had a Whip!
That is so COOL. Thanks for bringing us along, Adam. There's something to be said for "... the Good Old Days.
🍭 🎈🎪🎡🤠👏
Love this!!! Well needed after a long day❤
I’d love to see a vlog of you at Knoebels in PA. Family owned with free parking and free admission. I went there every year growing up.
great ,and funny video...ur the best !
The story of Lucky, the papier-mâché-mache full-size horse, who ended up in a tree after the Great Flood of 1921, is wonderful!
Also, that amusement park looks amazing.
The Whipp is probably my all time favorite ride!
My brother and I worked there the summer of 1996. Their chili cheese fries were amazing! The old wooden coaster was up and running about every other week back then. They were constantly working on it and making repairs. Good times!
Thank you Adam...
This takes guts! Blast from the past!
I remember going to Lakeside once. It's still has that same old-timey vibe I remember from back in the 80's. Definitely deader than I remember it. Was very active when I went. However, glad to see it's still open.
I've always wanted to got to Lakeside. Maybe next year.
Another good one. I started chuckling, when you went by the Ferris Wheel and some letters were burned out and t said Ferris Eel. Too funny.
Try the breakfast burritos at the blue cow !
Love Morrison and Red Rocks! My childhood place!!!!!
Native Coloradan since 1971!! ❤
The Lakeside speedway was shut down during the late 1980's after a race car flipped and landed in the racer family grand stands!! 😢 During the 1970's a person stood up before the tunnel on the Cyclone Rollercoaster and was beheaded!! 🥹 I miss the train that went around the lake!! ✌ #davesandersstepdaughter
I'm a day late with this comment but just wanted to say it's ALWAYS good to see your parents in the blogs! Hope to see them again soon 😊
Would love to go there!
🙂👍🌹🌹
I love old school amusement parks like Lakeside.
fantastico!!
Great video! I hope you get a chance to see Seven Falls in Colorado Springs before you head out. It's quite a sight, especially at night when each falls is lit up a different color!
Loved this video! I used to work at the Morrison Inn, I wish I knew you were visiting there, I would have loved to stop by and say hi! Great video!
