Very informative and well made video, not a single point was missed and everything is thoroughly optimized which is honestly really impressive. Even though you didn't do much editing, the speech and quality is top notch, thanks.
i myself sliced the portals always on top of the obsidian and from the bottom to the top. i dont see a huge difference between doing that or your approach. of course no zombie pigmen spawn, but from my testing that really isnt an issue at all and also doesnt really decrease the rates, but its a lot easier to do. The Light engine in vanilla normally also doesnt keep up. it will fall further and further behind as far as i could see and it will be impossible (without changing out the hardware while running or something different) for the light engine to catch up. a problem i had was crashing my server with update supressing constantly. im not entirely sure why that happened and it was very annoying, but i got around that issue and could finish update and light supressing in around 2 days with working on it for around 6 hours. (i also had a couple of mistakes inbetween because it was my first time actually using light supression and then unfortunately messing up the light levels very badly, so that there was block light within blocks, which normally isnt possible) I then just used some more turtle eggs for getting rid of zombie pigmen. when positioning the player high enough you can despawn them really quickly which is good. i tested that for optimal lag optimisations you dont need to fill up the first subchunk with solid blocks, that will actually decrease performance, but you need to make a void peri for it for the most amount of air blocks around the afking player as possible. i tested that with 32 afk carpet bots and it improves performance (when player is high in the air) by around 50%. this doesnt mean that it has to be done, it just means that its a way of improving lag, by removing really as many blocks as possible. maybe this message could hep some people although i doubt that. xd
Yup, it's more of a personal preference. There is a very slight increase in rates if you really want the 'fastest' witch farm possible, having the portals on the bottom as pigmen spawning isn't that common. About the crashing; I've found that if you try and update suppress while the server is over 50 mspt you'll most likely end up crashing the server. Not sure why exactly (maybe because of client-server desync updating things in weird ways) but I usually just keep an eye on the mspt. Also experiencing crashes due to watchdog can be common as loading chunks while light suppressing can cause strain on the server (at least this occurs on 1.16.3 with lithium), to work around this issue you can load basically a buffer with bots so you don't get watchdogged.
the slight increase in rates is barely noticeable xd. ill will also then watch out for any sort of mspt low points then. I think that you cant load chunks as the server is just unable to process any light in those chunks in any way shape or form, thats at least what i think it is to some degree. i did not have any issues with watchdog though. I also dont really think that they can accure, because the chunks not loading is not the players fault.
As you already tested with a void perimeter... Did you also test if it's better to fill in the column below the farm with blocks or just leave air? I think that filling it should increase the rates a bit cause pack spawning attempts would only happen at farm's level and not below... But how does that affect performance? (ps: the column i'm talking about is the 17x19 one from y1 to the farm's first layer, counting platforms' dimension+the 5 non-full blocks in each direction for pack spawning)
@@klofaiom9297 thing is that that will cause massive amounts of lag, idk why. having air is more lag efficient, thats also why i told about having a void peri. the less blocks are getting rendered and send to the player and loaded the higher the performance as far as i could tell. filling only the first subchunk up with sandblocks increased the mspt by half of its previous values...
@@thecraftingfederation2425 hm that sucks... 1.16 is just so heavy on random updates every tick. I'll try with all the full blocks and see if there's one that actually doesn't get ticked (as does air), but counts as full block. Should increase rates in farms like this, which you can't build at y0, and help a little bit if you have to build farms in general
Well it's kinda difficult, yes you can have it close but you'll need to keep in mind it is laggy on the client Although having said that, you can also use lamp suppressors (I think ajvej has one) which should be less laggy but you'll have to mess around with it If you don't want to have it close you can have a chunk loading line from where you are doing light suppression to spawn chunks and send a signal through the nether and have it turn off that way, alternatively you could also use online player detectors using cats which could also be used to turn it off. Bots/alt accounts are probably the easy option but there are others for you to try if you want \o/
also how did you paste that command to spawn the bot in and how did you get those facing coords? i always have to spawn mine in then push them around so that would save some time. btw thank you for making this content I learned a lot doing this!
with 1.18 portal farms will break because mobs will need a light level of zero to spawn; does this mean light suppression will be the only work around to keep these types of farms alive?
In theory- yes, at least for mobs that require light level 0 to spawn, since some will still spawn regardless (Like ghasts I believe) The only other way is to have them spawn, go through some tunnel way in order to send them through a portal, but by then it might be worth just killing the mob there
i have carpet but i cannot find the command to disable light batch. i can change the batch size but now i have no idea what the default size was to begin with so any help would be greatly apprreciated. thanks!
What an amazing design. Would the farm work without the light supression? My hardware could be damaged my having that loaded along with the 2 perimeters.
I’m not the creator of the video, but I have a decent understanding on how light suppression works. You do need the skylight suppressor as it stops portals from creating light. Without this, no witches would spawn.
Couple questions I'm doing this.on a single player world on 1.15.2 I run the light suppressor for 5-6 mins then start to to the slicing but once it comes to the sign placing but (middle) they don't place or they break the portal block (it's 50/50 on what one), how do you place signs with out the text box showing and when it comes time to crashing the server (game In my case) can I just close it from task manager? schematics used are the "witch suppressor v8" and the "light_Suppressor" files
I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but the light supression just won't work, I tried it many times now the skylight supression works fine but the portals still emit light. (I tried both of them at the same time skylight suppression worked but not the portal)
That's strange, you sure you don't have any mods that could be affecting this? Also try with other light sources, and also keep in mind that your client will always update light, so you have the relog to actually see if you light suppressed. If none of this works try on other servers, could also be related to hardware.
hey, was building the farm, when i met a major roadblock - how exactly do I use the update suppressor from the updated schematic? I don't see any levers, or anything that can activate the suppressor really.

@@sensei2657 Thank you very much for the insightful response. Are you saying that if I were to download the mods you mentioned that could help it work as well?

A totally meaningless effort to build a farm that has no real advantage over a shifting floor-based design design. Swamp huts have very few spawning spaces so even with a quad huts, the mob cap is not reached. This is the main reason why you'd want mobs spawning in portal blocks in EOL designs is to free up the mob cap. Other than that, you get a very slight increase in rates due to the fact that entities cannot spawn inside of other entities. So what's that, less than 1%? So let's try to think a bit. If you built a regular farm and AFK'ed at it for the duration it took to build this one (all the block update and light update suppression), you would have gotten not only enough to compensate for what this farm has to offer over the course of its lifetime but way more. So unless you use this farm for *years*, it's a total waste of time that results in less resources gained. (And why would you use it for years when a stacking raid farm is something like 25 witch farms?)
Lets do some maths here; lets say it would take you about an hour to build 2 shifting floor witch farms which is pretty reasonable, you would have the farm running at 8600 drops per hour. And for EOL you would need to build an update suppressor which is about 30 minutes which is very reasonable, a light suppressor which is probably another half an hour or so (and you won't have to rebuild this). Now if you know what you are doing the whole farm could be done in less than an hour, I'll double that to allow for some crashes and mistakes, and double again for the other farm, so we are up to 5 hours in total, now this is a lot more effort but it is also much more rewarding as you are building a farm that the majority of people have not built in survival. Given that your shifting floor would have been running for 4 more hours that would be 8600*4=34400, and your EoL produces 9100 per hour, to fully catch up with the shifting floor you'd need to run the farm for about 3 days, which in the grand scheme of things is basically nothing. And obviously you also now have a very easy looting witch farm as well. Now looting is roughly 2.5x so that would make EoL 22750 per hour, now if you were to setup converyors on your shifting floor lets say that's an extra hour or so, so you'd only have 3 hours running, meaning shifting has a lead of 64500, and for EoL looting to catch up you'd need to run the farm for about 50 hours which is also pretty much nothing. The decrease in heightmap does make a difference although slight, it does add up. Obviously this farm is not for the average player but in the long term is definitely worth it. Raid stacking farms are far superior and I do recommend to build on instead of this if you are in need of redstone. Most of the point of building these farms is for the experience and the flex. Thanks for your comment though. (feel free to argue against my numbers lol)
