  • Using Aerosol Paint to layout and paint football practice field with hash marks. 160 feet X 360 feet.
    53 1/3 yards x 120 yards.
    100 yards goal line to goal line.
    Using Pioneer Max aerosol paint and basic paint stick painter.
    Use four tape measures. Two 400 foot tapes, Two 200 to 300 foot tapes.
    Use large screwdrivers as stakes.
    Layout the four tapes in a square and use as your string and measure.
    Keep Aerosol Paint room Temperature and shake well before starting.
    Stage cans of paint along sidelines. Takes 14-18 aerosol cans to double paint field.
    This requires two people. You can speed up process a little by using 2 more people to help set tape measures and set the string.
    Re- Painting this field after layout using this method takes 20-30 minutes for 2 people.

    It takes more than an hour to set up and line the field, depends on doing it solo or with help, I recommend three workers. Having a manuel machine like a lazyliner helps. Hash marks take a long time, so no way to do the field in an hour. It helps to put in Cat Whiskers in the ground to have markers every year for a quick set up.

      Yes it takes two men. I’ve been doing these for 23 years. It takes me 1 1/2 to 2 hours by myself. With 3 men I can do it in 45 minutes. You’re more than welcome to come to Lake Orion Michigan and I will show you. It’s not a perfect looking game field on the first go around, but for a practice field it comes out good. Thanks for watching my video and commenting.

      @@CREENBIRDVideosI'd love to come to Michigan - very beautiful up there. When we paint, we usually have the faded lines or we mark from the sidelines with the cat-whisker markers we have on the sidelines.
      I like how you use the triangle (Math is awesome) for the corners. We have pegs in the ground marking the corner post to work from.

      Michigan is hard to beat in the summer for sure. Our state's football season got cancelled though...
      On fields with goal posts, we usually line end zones up as close as possible to the horizontals so they match up.
      When painting Practice fields, we will move the fields a little from year to year.
      We used to have monuments on the corners of our old Varsity field, but now its synthetic turf.
      If there is a fence, I will put marks on it to locate approximate corners for the next season's layout.

    Is using chalk cheaper? Do you feel it holds up enough?
    Great tutorial on making a simple field!

    • @CREENBIRDVideos
      @CREENBIRDVideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t use chalk on grass. Chalk doesn’t last on grass and it’s heavy. I sometimes will maybe run some on baseball field to freshen up a painted foul line when chalking the infield. You can go over the aerosol field with an airless or low pressure air over paint sprayer if you want to save money. I like aerosol because I can go to multiple locations and paint all my fields in fraction of time. Plus no clean up.

    interesting to see someone else striping a field. thank you for sharing. your technique is spot on for squaring up the box. I work for a school district and paint athletic fields on the side. I have over 12 years experience and im only 30.
    I am spoiled though, and we use titan machines and lazyliners, or custom built machines.

      Daniel Cicalese Glad you liked the video. We have used this method to layout and paint fields for 20 years. It is not the best looking or most long lasting, but it is definitely the fastest. Most of the fields we do are practice fields that get beat up pretty bad. The only downside to aerosol paint is when it is windy.

    How many cans does it take to paint the field

    • @CREENBIRDVideos
      @CREENBIRDVideos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It takes 12-18 cans to initially layout and double paint the lines as shown, depending on how fast you walk and the length of the turf. It usually takes about 8 cans to repaint the field once a week thereafter. The aerosol paint works good, not as good as the airless sprayer, but it’s fast and no cleanup. When going to multiple sites, you just load your paint stick and some spray cans and go. Throw away empty cans when done.

      We paint a lot of practice fields although we are not a dedicated field crew. We use this method for speed. If it’s a game field we go over it with a paint machine.

      Most of our game fields are synthetic turf now. Our weekly field painting schedule is mostly practice fields. Before we had those synthetic fields, we spent a lot more time painting more detailed football game fields.

    • @CREENBIRDVideos

      I probably should have. I always paint to the outside when using a yard marker stencil. I find the hashes have to be restrung after a few mowings to keep them straight.

      Make sure you get the right size stick for the paint you are using. The game day paint is currently on back order because of supply chain issues. Check with a local pioneer rep if that’s the paint you wish to use.

      I bought them from Pioneer athletics. They are made in China and they have meters on the other side. They aren’t the best quality but they do the trick. I have asked our sales rep to find better ones but these are all that have been available. They save a ton of time. Thanks for watching!!

      Esposito88 you could paint an additional line to the outside then fill in with aerosol or use an airless with latex field paint. I have done 24” sideline with aerosol when the grass was too wet for latex on game day. It’s a lot of cans though.
