- The Weakest Link. Aired August 2000 although filmed (Show number 1) in June 2000.
Louise McCarron, a policewoman from Derry in Northern Ireland, won an episode of the Weakest Link in 2000.
Brainy Louise saw off seven other contestants to win The Weakest Link on BBC2 on Tuesday 29th August. Despite an £1,800 windfall however she was still left feeling just a little down in the dumps. For Louise, who is trained in the use of firearms, dropped a real clanger over a question about the world's most famous gun. She was asked by Anne Robinson: What type of gun is a Walther PPK? Louise replied: A rifle. She realised her mistake immediately as Anne explained it was a pistol - a fact known to all James Bond fans. But Louise quickly stormed through the quick-fire general knowledge quiz.
Louise, 35, admitted afterwards: "It's the most nerve wracking thing I've ever done."
Wow, this early episode is so rough but so enjoyable to watch. You could tell Anne hasn't gotten into her groove yet but she got over a decade and thousands of episodes to do.
Ikr, particularly the way Anne says "You've been watching The Weakest Link! Goodbye!". Sounded a bit moody compared to how she later changes to "Join us again for The Weakest Link.😉Goodbye." But then I guess this was early days and they didn't know how big a hit the show would become.
3:45 “bank, bank, bank”
29:18 Geoff's Lost His Bet & His Life Savings! LOL
I love the early episodes of Weakest Link
It was greatest in the year 2000 after that it just became unoriginal and bland.
@@jimmyjohns8199 I agree i like the 2001 episodes as well but after that the show became bland.
I also find myself liking the step-forward/step-back concept in the final round.
Louise is incredible!
Like you are in looks 🔥🤙🏻😌
3:45 You Can See Gary Mouthing In The Background Telling Everyone To Say BANK
😂😂😂😂
Geoff was in The Bad Losers Special
Love how on the earlier episodes they had to share a final podium lol
Louise...Great Job! Thanks for this upload. I traced part of my maternal ancestors roots back to Derry, Northern Ireland in approximately 1695. Thanks for Your Service and Take Care! 🇺🇲
Amazing re the Derry connection and thank you, safely retired now.
You can tell Louise is smart when she remembers the detail about Gary's profession from the start.
This is one of the first episodes. 20 years ago in June!
this is the first episode recorded...
@@lpm1 What about 23:40 ?
@@dylosophical5016 you've lost me...
@@dylosophical5016 that could have just been talking about quiz shows in general. And you can tell it was in the first recording block because the final is different.
@@dylosophical5016 Gary's batshit crazy
I love how you are shutting down all the "experts" in the comments section, Louise! 🤣 Your knowledge of those early days is very interesting to me. A worthy winner and an episode I haven't watched! Thanks for uploading it 😊
You’re welcome & thanks for comments, did make me chuckle.
Thanks for the upload, much appreciated!
9:38 Dang, she was ahead of her time.
3:45 - Check out the psycho in the background!
Lol
5:22 Don't You Just Hate It When They Don't BANK The Last £20-£50 Before The Clock Hits ZERO
It's worse when they bank on low numbers with loads of time still left
@@conormccormack7841 I agree although with this lot they kept on getting to £20 before breaking the chain & that was in the Easy Rounds
Elizabeth who went off first was a contestant on Countdown 9 years before being on here. She was called Bette
They had A PERFECT CHAIN in Round 5 so could've Hit The £1,000 Target
David Fearis they did?
Louise was my deceased grandmother's name. It is a very unique name. Her middle name was Victoria. My great grandmother was probably inspired by England.
I call this a pilot episode of The Weakest Link
The pilot episode had 11 contestants.. so this is not the pilot.
31:49 LOL, why is that guy checking his watch. He got someplace else to be? 😄😄
How many milk teeth in a full set? Two 😂
its definitely the first episode for number of reasons first anne is hesitant second in the introduction the players say hello my name when in other episodes they dont
Also, the "for £20" after the contestant banked. They got rid of that practice very quickly. Probably because it ate into the question time.
How did you discover the show? I'm assuming either via newspaper, magazine or browsing Ceefax.
@@hakc97again I happened upon an ad on Ceefax
1:05
That's Geoff Owen from The People Versus
At least the crowd don't shout "loser!" in walking the dreadful "walk of shame!".
Geoff was on the 'Bad Losers' special.
Do you think he fit the criteria to return? There’s now only 3 of the original bad losers I’m yet to see.
@@hakc97again I mean I don't think it was unfair but the criteria pretty much were I think that you weren't happy about being voted off.
filip4900 was he sore enough to be considered a bad loser? Slightly surprised Manju wasn’t in that special
He Also Was On THE PEOPLE VERSUS & Ended Up Winning £85,000, So He Doesn't Exactly Need The Money From THE WEAKEST LINK
@@davidfearis7335 was that Geoff Owen?!
24:15- THEY HAD A PERFECT CHAIN OF 9 CORRECT ANSWERS HERE!!!
THEY COULD'VE BANKED THE £1,000 TARGET!!!
Jeff was really 49 back then?
Once Anne found her footing presenting this the insults came thick and fast that was the turning point that made the weakest link one of the most entertaining quiz shows in Britain the remake with Romesh is ok but it’s not the same without Anne
Everything is being dulled down
Romesh is not fit .TBH,his performance on the show and those silly jokes make the show like a standup comedy...After watch one or two I just decide to not care anymore. Can he a bit harsher or serious to those celebrity....
With BBC try to made a "modern twist"with the bad american influence (those twist is started when NBC was revive this show in 2020,the show just not the same, rules got change, procedure and visual effect was not made a impact and messy.)
21:50 Couldn't Be Bother To Say BANK Leon!
Anne Robinson was SO SLOW at asking the questions after they BANKED, that's wasting the team another 1-2 questions
TBF this was the first episode recorded and it did become slicker as time went on. Completely new concept.
@@lpm1 One of the first episodes yes, but I still feel Anne was slow at getting through the questions
@@davidfearis7335 I'm sorry to be pedantic but it was THE 1st episode recorded, not one of the 1st. This particular show took a very long time to record and it improved over time by trial and error. She may very well have been slow and this was corrected as the production became more efficient. I think I am able to talk with some authority on this, after all I was there...
@@lpm1thank you for your input I think a lot of people are struggling to understand and are pretending to know as if they were there
Well done Louise!
Think Leon was a contestant on Deal Or No Deal around Christmas 2008.
Thank you, Leon was a smashing guy, hope he made some money.
@@lpm1 He did. £29,000 to be exact
Is it true Anne fainted twice filming this?
It is, right in the middle of the final, when I was ahead...This was the first show recorded & as a consequence the filming was rather long in a very warm studio. It did become slicker as the show grew in popularity.
lpm1 how long did filming these episodes take? I know the show was still finding itself but I feel like it could have taken like 3-4 hours
@@glsweeney721 I read that it took 3 hours. This is according to contestant Rod
Louise 🌟🌟🌟🌟
You really rock the show Louise, had you also appear on the Primetime of Weakest Link champion legends special?
I did but didn't do too well tbh, great experience though.
@@lpm1 I think I found your another appearance as the winner special

How many episodes were there when the camera cut straight to the contestants instead of moving it?
I'm afraid I don't know. I was only a contestant and not a technician...sorry.
Wow 2000. I was a kid
Please tell me this is the very first release of the Weakest Link?
0:33 Let’s meet the team
You think it's a GOOD idea
to name the winner!!!
Think I'll watch a show
from someone else.
yeah, my tape, my rules...good luck finding it elsewhere.
She is the winner. She can name herself if she wants
32:40-32:50 Clever Rod, The Only To Spot Louise Was THE WEAKEST LINK, For All The Good It Did Him!
16:45-17:10 The Vote's A Draw, What To Do, Let THE STRONGEST LINK Decide!
17:57 THE STRONGEST LINK HAS SPOKEN!
Looks Like The Team Didn't Trust Brett & Gary Overall, And Only Gary Noticed GEOFF Was THE WEAKEST LINK In ROUND 3, He Got Away With Murder This Time!
I’ve always wondered this…between rounds, what happens to the boards used for voting?
I think (it’s been a while) that they were left n the podium and lifted up only when they were needed. I vaguely remember the crew hurriedly running round wiping them before the next round. Pens were rubbish…
What did You do with the money did you halve it with Angela or something
all mine & it helped with a deposit for my new flat.
25:31 America is a continent, not a country.
Exactly. And a big one at that, spanning Canada to Falkland Islands.
North America and South America are continents. The USA is often referred to as "America"
America is a country that is part of the continent of North america
Do you have any more Weakest Link episodes
No
How on earth is Gary so god awful
Injustice spurred on Angela.
Oh, that arrogant bloke would have lost his life savings, wouldn't he?
Only fools gamble...
Geoff was one of the bad losers.
