Very good video, thanks for posting. I noticed a few things, the instructions stated that the controls come pre-set at lever positions that most riders find comfortable, that did not appear to be the case on the shift side. Also, on the small lever that clamps to the transmission's shift shaft, one side of the lever is threaded for tightening the clamping feature, and a lock nut is then threaded on for additional security......... I think the wrong side of the small lever is threaded, it would be a much cleaner design if the clamping bolt's head faced forward and the unattractive lock nut was on the back of that small lever. Lastly, the interference between kick start lever and the foot shift lever seems to be a design problem. I have not looked at your other videos, maybe that was easily resolved by adjustment. You would think for what these rear sets cost that NYC Norton would throw in the t-shirt...... Your bike looks great, love the blue color.
Thanks, I agree the bolt that holds the clamp on transmission should thread inward. It would look better for sure. The kickstarter is clearing the shift lever now after I made some adjustments but still close and you have to fold up footpeg to kickstart the bike. I may get an electric start down the road so that’s not a deal breaker. I’ve had several rear sets over the years on other bikes and they are never perfect straight out the box. I never get free shirts, I’ve spent a fortune buying parts from CNW and cant even get a sticker. Which I don’t think he has stickers or t shirts. I need to do an update video on the Norton, i finally got my engine back from CNW and it’s installed. It’s gorgeous!
I have a 1975 850 Norton Commando Mark III Electric Start, Last US Production Year. Been in Re-build state for over 12 years Now ! So Don't feel left in the Cold ! He JUST got it Back from the LAST attempt of welding up the Mooned-out Blow-out when I lost a Head Gasket in Downtown Chicago in 83,YES that was the day I DIDN"T Pull the Plug, like an Idiot. But i wasn't gonna leave my Bike Downtown !! I started the Rebuild a little a that, but took it Home down-state later to have welded and milled. That didn't turn out perfect ! Still Blowing Gaskets ! That meant not Flat ! I got in contact with M.A.P. Cycle in Florida, sent it to them.told them to take time & do what's necessary, valves & All ! These Heads have TONS of Porosity in them !! And it was .008 WARPED ! At Least,All HAND GROUND !! That Takes FOREVER !! My Head was His WORST NIGHT MARE !! BUT, Come a SUNNY DAY, he sent it to a NY shop also for Last Minute Welding, and Behold,it's DONE ! I had to have time to to get my $$$ in Order too,so it wasn't his end ! He has worked ALL this time with me !!!! WHO would do that ?!?! M.A.P. Cycle is the BEST !! And now I'm gonna get my MOD parts too !!! THANKS MARINO !!!!!!!!! 😎
Man I’m glad you’re getting it back together. I heard Franz and Grubb does good work. I didn’t know Marino did head work. It took way too long for me to get my Norton engine rebuilt, but it’s done and runs really good.
