Circe is a wonderful 2nd place to Sanzang imo. Her pig stun is amazing when it's usable and she does some ok damage in her NP. Just not as much as the monk. Really if you want to make an enemy assasin's life miserable, use all 3 at once. Remove buffs, stun them and they are already dead.
She paid me a visit while I was chasing Artoria Ruler. Between her spooking me on that banner and Scheherazade dropping in on my Merlin chase, I've now pulled damn near every 5* caster

She’s my go to Caster dps for when I don’t want to play around with lower rarity Casters and just want to get the boss fight over with. Glad that I did get her when I was going for Lancer Li so long ago. Definitely worth raising even if you got other options
Another underappreciated use of her taunt is NP generation. Sometimes you end up with a turn where you are like 15% away from an NP, and it really really sucks because of how close you got. Every servant gains 4% NP per hit, 5% if they are a zerk, which means with some enemies that have high hitcounts lets you get a ton of free NP charge if you can focus it on one servant. Obviously it takes some setup with defense buffs, but when going up against assassins, with a 1500 flat damage resist buff and another defense buff on top, Xuangzang can get quite a bit of charge while taking minimal damage herself from their generic non-NP attacks. Though regardless, I will be sticking to my max grail gold fou Medea for ST caster DPS needs.
I hope she is one of the next summer servants. She is really great on Assassin Challenge quest. I love her so much. She reminds me of Kanami from Log Horizon.
So, this is an expensive setup, but: MLB Black Grail on Xuanzang Dual Merlin Plug suit Summer BB in the back line with Golden Catches the Carp Wait until she can NP and she has two cards in the deck. Swap in BB. Lock the cards. Let Xuanzang lead off with NP and brave chain. You can usually NP loop, or at least get very close. Great for Assassin bosses with multiple break bars.
Zangang saved me on the first anniversary. She prevented me from getting Da Vinci with 1 ticket, and instead of her obvute her, one of the best spooks, best Caster ST day 1-today
I remember when she spooked me on Caster Nero's banner. Not a fun time. I end up using Illya most often or not, but I can't deny the usefulness of servants that go "NP now" at pretty much the touch of a skill.
The worst is that, with Kotauro's insane HP bar, you have to bring the 200% dmg ce, which means you have to relly in Supports and/or Skills to bypass it , or wait a turn where he doesnt spam Evade.
She's honestly the only case I think that a mismatched deck is acceptable. While it does lower her damage, it also means that her np is overall very spammable, and it does consistent acceptable damage every time. So she never really falls off, which plays nice with break bar mechanics. As much as I like Illya, she can only nuke once every 5 or so turns, which gives her a lot of down time where she isn't doing much.
Well with double Merlin it helps give a lot of np for the team constantly do she can do a lot like David but better since all three are casters so they synergize more. Only issue is sustain as she has no survival but she is fast to np
The vitch being introduced lets her crit which is probably just as important. And let's her overtake using an alter ego instead of her in full assassin nodes
Just got her in the Musashi banner so this is a surprise to be sure but a welcome one (already have caster Nero but having a single target caster is über helpful)
Xuangzang even on base was amazing. Aside her lack of sustain she does major damage for a caster as her competition is limited like illya who does more damage and sustain but less charge and low star casters that are good are aoe casters for the most part as all st caster have something lacking even Circe aside being cute. Her kit is nice for debuff Protection and I managed to 3 turn li shuwen boss battle in lb 3. Funny enough got her np 2 during ereshkigal rolls. The odds of that is so low yet I'm happy.

Sheba has a very well rounded kit and can have two consecutive burst turns fairly easily, either by playing her in a crit team with Merlin and / or Hans using 2030s since her second skill has a 100 % crit damage buff, which is a hell of a drug along with Hero Creation, or by looping her NP with supports like Tamamo, Paracelsus, Nero Bride or future Castoria due to good internals and her AABBQ deck with an Arts NP that lets her run both a buster and arts team with no issues. You can even run both setups in one with sth like Merlin + Tamamo + Sheba running 2030s on the supports. She's amazingly consistent and even gives the rest of the team both an atk buff as well as a hybrid buster + arts buff over 3 turns, as well as some minor debuffs from her NP with atk, def and healing down. The only thing holding her back from being truly amazing is her class and her subsequent lower damage multiplier. If she were a Saber or Lancer with the same kit, people would be all over her. Tbh the only thing she needs to truly excel is a NP interlude.

That's what supports provide. Just because a DPS lacks direct ways to protect themselves, doesn't make them bad at all. Not every servant needs to have a dodge or guts. And did you actually look at Circe's damage? She does less damage with her ST NP than most AOE units due to having basically no damage buffs in her kit, and her NP gain is absolutely terrible aside from her one turn of NP charge. Once she fires it off at once, have fun charging it back with her 0.39 % NP gain rate. Sheba literally has more than twice that NP gain with 0.81 % and can easily fire off back to back NPs with arts chains, especially if they crit. Once Circe gets off that one NP turn she's stuck twiddling her thumbs or needs her supports to charge her back up if you don't want to wait forever to get it back naturally. Sheba doesn't have those problems at all. One turn of stun is nice, yes, but that comes at the cost of Circe being absolutely cucked in her internals. I'd much rather have a unit that can work consistently than one that loses all value after one burst turn that isn't even good until a NP interlude in almost two years of time. Saying that you have a unit means nothing when you obviously never used them properly. She was an absolute MVP during the Kotaro fight and pretty much everything in her kit contributed to that. Her crit skill also comes with pierce invul attached to it to just ignore his evade spam on key turns, she provides consistent damage buffs to the entire team to push for more damage over multiple turns, and her debuffs on NP mitigate Kotaro's damage enough that aside from his NP turns he basically does next to no damage to you that can easily be healed back up by servants like Asclepius.

Merlin makes everyone good because he is good not the other way around unless it's xuangzang or illya who do extreme nuke damage while also being faster than Sheba in xuangzang with her charge or more sustain like illya with her inval and guts. And snek doctor as well doesn't make Sheba good as he is the good one not her. Again I've tested them out and Circe having a way to stun or team support is better than just what Sheba does as gilgamesh caster also works better for crit damage since he can get more crit stars and work as a support by uping debuff chance as well. Shebas kit falls fast when she isn't using her skills while the others can get more out of themselves in one way or another as they have a charge or more hits on cards. The fuuma fight the other casters have better use still. Circe can stun which is better than getting np or crit. Gilgamesh can make use of the clone to get more crit stars. Xuangzang can just prevent the debuff from happening and Circe can clear it and np immediately. Sheba can't do any of those so she is not even a jack of all trades either. Even shuten caster is better by being a free np 5 instead of wasting quarts on Sheba. I can see you like her a lot but you justify things she can't do by bringing up supports which doesn't add to her but shows a negative to her useability. She is too slow to get np and Peirce inval is a niche that can be easily used with the altera ce which only adds to the other units who have battery anyways.
Got her in 2019 when she was sharing a rate up with Ozzy. I believed in waifu, and then got the waifu in 12ish tickets. Then got her to NP2 during this year when I was rolling for Jalter. I did not mind one bit; especially since in the end I got Jalter anyway. Don't mind more spooks of her. Her future is bright, and even still I use her often. Sanzang love all the way.
If you're against an enemy that deals aoe attacks (like the giant ghosts) and dont currently have Sanzang's np up to pop them, you can throw out her second skill purely for the damage cut. Or mix the taunt with her 3rd skill to gain some on-damage charge.
You can also use her second skill as a way to charge NP. Since you usually bring her to fight Assassins, she has resists against them and her defense buff will only make their attacks tickle her.
As someone with a Sanzang on NA, I'll say this: I only used her during the Case Files event as the opener to a 3NP chain to 1turn farm the demon pillar. Otherwise she just sits back and does nothing. Why? because Np2 Okita farms most of the same spots with an AOE, and Sitonai works better with my Tamamo, Helena, and Paraselsus comp. Or I just use Sieg if it is a pure assassin node.

I have her at NP5 due to all of the spooks that I've had. That said, she's pretty solid, and gets the job done when you just need a Caster that can hit real hard.
That challenge quest, I used waver, Schanzang, support Merlin, backup Tamamo, Nito, and Mash. Nito was the last one standing and was able to spam her np, heal, and guts my way the last 45k of the bosses life. It felt great, but Schanzang got me most of the way there, even as a master who made some really dumb mistakes in the fight.
I'll admit that I did a small comparison with Servants where I compare the Rarity counterparts and Sanzang is one of those where I compare her to Circe since there both permanent single hit Buster NP and has a huge Np charge that you can get in the gacha where one is SSR and the other SR additionally both have rank up that happened this year. This also goes to Illya and Caster Shuten where both are limited(well Shuten is event limited welfare so close enough) and they both have hard hitting Buster NP and I guess they have huge buffs in their kit.
Imma be honest, whenever i need a dps "caster" i just get lazy and pull out Zerker Nobu to take that spot. 1 she's 100 10/10/10 NP3 1k fou each and 2, my to-do list for servant enhancements is sooooo crowded there's like 15 casters on backlog alone. My only "done" casters are Tama and Waver...
I love my busty monk, her and Nero Tenga just destroy assassins on command. Barbatos raid was fun times. It be nice if they removed the caster damage penalty for damage casters. Though really, Vitch makes every buster with a 30% or better charge do the same as what you describe here for Xuanzang. Vitch breathes a lot of life into buster farming, just a shame you still need Arash for those without self NP charge like Raikou. Also come on Fino, there are a ton of Fist of the North Star or Jojo references you could of used on her intro and nothing. I'm already disappointed.
She's spooked me a couple of times lately so she's at NP3 now and goddamn she is incredible at what she does, I can't believe they buff her more down the line because she doesn't even need it truth be told! I shan't complain though, I love her and she's a hilarious and wonderful waifu on top of that with an awesome design and character. She was pretty damn great in the Camelot movies too! That Koyanskaya system setup looks absolutely disgusting, she seems ridiculous in it!
There is also another reason to use the taunt. If you are using her against a boss fight that has area of effect attacks ,her taunt skill becomes almost purely a defensive buff.
This girl has shown up for me some many times even when I didnt want her shes sitting at np4. At that point I was just like fine I’ll invest in you…shes currently fully grailed and im working on golden fouing her
A big problem I have with offensive Casters (and to a lesser degree, Assassins) is that Alter Egos exist. Why on earth would I build even an NP3 Xuanzang when I have an NP2 Melt that does every part of her job better and with less jank? Yes, starting charge 50% is powerful, but one really good effect on a skill doesn't save the other two skill slots and the whack EMIYA deck, and since she's not AoE she can't be used as a farmer, either.
Honestly, Chiron and Helena are the two who give her the buff(s) she needs most. Arts and Buster together, but I'm left to wonder why that hasn't been baked into one of her skills tbh
I picked this cute (and sexy) monk with the recently ticket in NA, and I put her 3 command codes so far: davinci chan in her buster, 20% more stars in her quick, and 100% star absorption for an arts, but I'm no sure about the other 2 arts, it would be good to put another 100% star absorption?? I have her at NP4 all from spooks. I’ve never really liked her kit and honestly, if there is a single assassin mob, I’ll probably just use Melt instead. 😂 She can come in clutch and I’ve definitely used her for some CQ after seeing other’s setups. I am definitely looking forward to her buffs.

Just means the support is good which is honestly what I hear inshun and Hyde fans try to justify which proves the point that Sheba is not good in your own logic. Merlin makes everyone good because he is good not the other way around unless it's xuangzang or illya who do extreme nuke damage while also being faster than Sheba in xuangzang with her charge or more sustain like illya with her inval and guts. And snek doctor as well doesn't make Sheba good as he is the good one not her.
Again I've tested them out and Circe having a way to stun or team support is better than just what Sheba does as gilgamesh caster also works better for crit damage since he can get more crit stars and work as a support by uping debuff chance as well. Shebas kit falls fast when she isn't using her skills while the others can get more out of themselves in one way or another as they have a charge or more hits on cards.
The fuuma fight the other casters have better use still. Circe can stun which is better than getting np or crit. Gilgamesh can make use of the clone to get more crit stars. Xuangzang can just prevent the debuff from happening and Circe can clear it and np immediately. Sheba can't do any of those so she is not even a jack of all trades either. Even shuten caster is better by being a free np 5 instead of wasting quarts on Sheba.
I can see you like her a lot but you justify things she can't do by bringing up supports which doesn't add to her but shows a negative to her useability. She is too slow to get np and Peirce inval is a niche that can be easily used with the altera ce which only adds to the other units who have battery anyways.

Got her in 2019 when she was sharing a rate up with Ozzy. I believed in waifu, and then got the waifu in 12ish tickets. Then got her to NP2 during this year when I was rolling for Jalter. I did not mind one bit; especially since in the end I got Jalter anyway.
Don't mind more spooks of her. Her future is bright, and even still I use her often. Sanzang love all the way.
If you're against an enemy that deals aoe attacks (like the giant ghosts) and dont currently have Sanzang's np up to pop them, you can throw out her second skill purely for the damage cut. Or mix the taunt with her 3rd skill to gain some on-damage charge.

You can also use her second skill as a way to charge NP. Since you usually bring her to fight Assassins, she has resists against them and her defense buff will only make their attacks tickle her.
A very strong raid beat stick. Double Merlin, MAX MLB BG and Arctic Mystic Code even at NP1 destroys most raid Assassin or Berserker bosses.
She was my first SSR now I have her np3 from random pulls and she helped me a lot in boss fights like the pillars

As someone with a Sanzang on NA, I'll say this: I only used her during the Case Files event as the opener to a 3NP chain to 1turn farm the demon pillar.
Otherwise she just sits back and does nothing.
Why? because Np2 Okita farms most of the same spots with an AOE, and Sitonai works better with my Tamamo, Helena, and Paraselsus comp.
Or I just use Sieg if it is a pure assassin node.

I have her at NP5 due to all of the spooks that I've had. That said, she's pretty solid, and gets the job done when you just need a Caster that can hit real hard.
That challenge quest, I used waver, Schanzang, support Merlin, backup Tamamo, Nito, and Mash. Nito was the last one standing and was able to spam her np, heal, and guts my way the last 45k of the bosses life. It felt great, but Schanzang got me most of the way there, even as a master who made some really dumb mistakes in the fight.
I'll admit that I did a small comparison with Servants where I compare the Rarity counterparts and Sanzang is one of those where I compare her to Circe since there both permanent single hit Buster NP and has a huge Np charge that you can get in the gacha where one is SSR and the other SR additionally both have rank up that happened this year. This also goes to Illya and Caster Shuten where both are limited(well Shuten is event limited welfare so close enough) and they both have hard hitting Buster NP and I guess they have huge buffs in their kit.

Imma be honest, whenever i need a dps "caster" i just get lazy and pull out Zerker Nobu to take that spot. 1 she's 100 10/10/10 NP3 1k fou each and 2, my to-do list for servant enhancements is sooooo crowded there's like 15 casters on backlog alone. My only "done" casters are Tama and Waver...
I love my busty monk, her and Nero Tenga just destroy assassins on command. Barbatos raid was fun times. It be nice if they removed the caster damage penalty for damage casters. Though really, Vitch makes every buster with a 30% or better charge do the same as what you describe here for Xuanzang. Vitch breathes a lot of life into buster farming, just a shame you still need Arash for those without self NP charge like Raikou.
Also come on Fino, there are a ton of Fist of the North Star or Jojo references you could of used on her intro and nothing. I'm already disappointed.
She's spooked me a couple of times lately so she's at NP3 now and goddamn she is incredible at what she does, I can't believe they buff her more down the line because she doesn't even need it truth be told! I shan't complain though, I love her and she's a hilarious and wonderful waifu on top of that with an awesome design and character. She was pretty damn great in the Camelot movies too! That Koyanskaya system setup looks absolutely disgusting, she seems ridiculous in it!

There is also another reason to use the taunt. If you are using her against a boss fight that has area of effect attacks ,her taunt skill becomes almost purely a defensive buff.

A big problem I have with offensive Casters (and to a lesser degree, Assassins) is that Alter Egos exist. Why on earth would I build even an NP3 Xuanzang when I have an NP2 Melt that does every part of her job better and with less jank? Yes, starting charge 50% is powerful, but one really good effect on a skill doesn't save the other two skill slots and the whack EMIYA deck, and since she's not AoE she can't be used as a farmer, either.
NO FUCKING WAY, KOYANSKAYA HAS A BUNNY SUIT AND SHE IS A BUSTER SUPPORT??? TIME TO UNGA BUNGA
