  • Having your watch serviced is a very important step for any watch. I am speaking from experience when I say these are some important questions you must ask before making the decision of sending your prized possession in for service!
    00:00 Intro
00:15 What is a watch service
02:52 Where should you send it
    05:39 Who should do it
07:55 When should I service it
    11:21 What is a refinish
12:20 If I should ever service
    Thank you for watching!

Hey Man! Been watching you for a long time. Just want to say that I think you are the ONLY 100% HONEST watch guy out there. I would NEVER question any piece I got from you. I just wish I had known that before I dealt with some of the others that I had dealings with in the past. Thanks for keeping it REAL and HONEST ! If i ever need another piece.... I'll come to you first ! Thanks for the honesty ! and keep up the GREAT videos !

ALWAYS take close-up photos of the front AND back of the watch, at the actual time and place where you hand the watch in for service. you may need those photos later to prove what condition the watch was in when you handed it in.... speaking from experience here.

you are so right. Only service it when it shows signs of going wrong. Overservicing a watch is potentially damaging the components, and costs a lot of money for nothing. Depends on the brand. My Rolexes never needed anything, like my Omegas, but my AP's are a bit more.... fragile and need more frequently a service to beat accurately. Keep going your videos are always very informative, thank you !

Eric leaving big money on the table for honesty and integrity about watch service intervals. I agree. If you didn’t dip it in a toilet tank or the Salton Sea, let it be.

Dude, if your watch went into the Salton Sea...that would definitely test the metal corrosion resistance from the watch material. Or see your watch dissolve before your eyes.

As far as Rolex goes, I do wonder about their accuracy statements..their latest movements having a +2/-2 accuracy claim. Previous generation movements can be regulated to that accuracy even though Rolex’s claimed accuracy for those movements was not as stringent. So part of me wonders if the new +2/-2 accuracy statement by Rolex isn’t based on having a better movement, but simply an attempt at getting more owners to believe their watch needs servicing when they see their movement is outside the Rolex stated accuracy.

great content, but I do use a watch winder (sparingly). If I plan to wear an unwound watch the next day, I'll put it in the winder over night for a gentle wind.

Good vid. I have a couple of watches with the ETA 2824-2 movement in them and I've been quoted $400 for a full service on each providing they don't find anything else wrong. Now I can buy an ETA 28224-2 for $200-$250 new. Looking at several videos on hand removal and installation does not look that complicated so I'm contemplating buying a new movement and installing it myself. What are some of the biggest considerations besides tools (I have the tools for this job) in replacing a movement?

Great discussion. For those who don’t think 5 sec/day is ok - do the math!
Let’s hope local watchmakers survive so we have the option not to send everything to SUI; lost a few during/after the pandemic - rents went up, couldn’t afford to stay in business. Sad.

Eric .. what do you mean by sending the watch " Directly to the Manufacture " ...? If I bought my Rolex from Watches of Switzerland and I go there for the service it's being considered that it's going " Directly to the Manufacture " or not? If not, how can I send it " Directly to the Manufacture " ..? Thanks... Im from New York

'Serviced' means a different thing when it comes to dealers. They all advertise as 'serviced' but when asked who did the service, they start blowing smoke and act shady.
Basically, their 'serviced' means 'regulated' and re-sealed, then usually a poor refinish in a cost saving attempt to look good and run as it should.

12:00 I remember all my big scratches on my rolex, every one of them tells a story, and that’s the beauty of them
I will never polish my watch, i will beat it up till i pass down to my son , then it’s up to him if he wants to polish or not, till then i will enjoy wearing it without any concern

Been burned by independent watchmakers. Charge way more than in-house and take way longer, and feed you unnecessary bs info. Have had great experience with omega, Tudor, and tag heuer. Average wait time 2 months.

You have made me nervous. I live on Long Island and took my Father’s 1973 Rolex Datejust to London Jewelers in Southampton. They sent it to Rolex for a full service including a new crystal and a polishing. I’m also getting a new bracelet because it was very worn out. I hope it is done right. It’s costing me almost $2500😮.
