    Try selling a watch to a dealer without box & papers to see if they are a big deal.

      Ditto. Even Roman Sharf advises buying a luxury watch with the boxes and papers. The only exception is vintage watches which may not have the papers if the owner did not keep them.

    people think keeping the box, papers, stickers, tags, receipt and bag is enough but you should also capture the air from the AD inside a jar. Thats how you get a real premium.

  • @MTbone7

    The real truth? When buying from a dealer, they say it's not that important to not have papers. But that same dealer will hammer you on price if you bring them a watch without papers.

    Dealer will say it’s important when you are selling and you don’t have it so they lowball you. It’s not important when they try to sell.

    Papers are really important for special dials. For example the oyster perpetual range. The seller could buy a basic black one, change the dial to a custom Tiffany blue and sell it as a Tiffany blue... Papers really help avoiding these scams. Same for a gold Daytona green dial. The seller could have bought a basic gold Daytona with a white dial, then change it for a green one and sell it as an original green dial Daytona.

    I sold my Patek 5170R without papers and man, that was not easy! Some grey dealers really try to screw you over by saying “it’s a beautiful watch but very hard to sell this type without papers as collectors are very picky”. Have spoken to a few in the Beverly Hills / LA area and they’re nasty AF! Eventually managed to sell it for an ok price but still thousands less due to no papers. I learned my lesson, for me no modern watch without box & papers. Unless it’s truly a vintage model you are after, then it should be fine without the papers/box. But for modern models, just don’t do it and if you do because the deal is super attractive, then just be prepared to not sell it in the next 20 yrs if you don’t want to lose money 😂

  • @MyWatchLLC
    @MyWatchLLC 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    On average papers, or lack there of, reduce the price by 10-20%. You most definitely should have them on dial premium watches, especially that little white tag which tells you which dial was born with the watch.

    Out of the box this was a great overview! Here in Singapore if boxes are left in a closet without any circulating air they deteriorate very quickly. Like you say unless it's something very special the box etc. is not really a deal breaker.

    Agree It's subjective, deep knowledge to assess the watch authenticity, its conditions and buying from a dealer with reputation and reviews are more important than papers which might be not even authentic. It's surprising and a bit suspicious how suddenly majority of vintage models are posted with box and papers.

  • @danielwanzelius552

    My main concern if it was a newer and more expensive watch -Is the watch stolen? We know for a fact that watch theft is super high at the moment. Someone is buying all these stolen watches... 🤷‍♂️ I think it's just a matter of price. How much cheaper can I get the watch without the papers? Is the extra cost worth it to get the papers?

  • @kraitshakti
    @kraitshakti 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Very important! Why? Because there are very many STOLEN watches, and although it’s possible to find a stolen watch where the box and papers were also stolen (or were faked), that is still relatively rare.
    Any person who buys a modern ‘naked’ watch without getting a solid understanding why it doesn’t have boxes/papers, is being silly.
    Especially for modern Rolex and such watches.
    For vintage watches - more likely that the papers and box may have been lost etc.
    But a modern Rolex or Audemars Piguet …not impossible, until you realize the BIG number of naked watches circulating.
    No way many of those are not stolen, especially when you Google ‘Rolex theft’ and realize the number of watches stolen in places like London every year.
    But a modern Rolex with no box and papers, and just know there is a big chance that once you take the watch for service years in the future, it will be confiscated as a stolen watch!!!!
    Buyer beware.
