Back in the day I had a 1972 Ford Capri 2ltr and that had the V4 engine I had planned to get a 3lre but this one came up and to be honest I loved it had plenty of power for my needs and I had no problems with it at all over the 7 years that I owned it I also had several Vauxhall Crestas all came with column gear changes I loved it with a bench seat you could get in and out of ether side great.

It looks like a great car , never had a column change car . It shifts gears with ease.

Thanks for the comment MKIV'S do sometimes get called but as you can see a well maintained car is a dream to drive.

I remember when the Mk4 was referred to as a Dagenham dustbin 😎 6 of us 3couples hired a Mk4 Zephyr in basic trim with bench seats front, column change for a weeks caravan holiday in Great Yarmouth. That carvenous boot took all our luggage without needing to squash it in. Oh happy memories. Cheers matey.

Had a Morris Oxford about 25 years ago with colum change
It was a real dream to drive
Wish I still had it now
Really miss the colum change gears
It was black with red leather interior
    Front bench seat

That column shift looks a delight to use. Mark 4 Zephyrs are cool.

Always been interested by the V4 and column change. I have a '70 Zodiac exec auto which I would drive everyday if I could!

Can you do a vid on the Ford Essex V engines? - everybody rages about cam gear/oil pump drive shafts and head gaskets etc on the V4 (when the V6 was basically the same design with a heavy 'balanced' flywheel)...... but what is your experience of them?

    • @Diggers-Garage

Got a V6 on the engine cradle at the moment, come up with something so everyone can have a good look at what goes on.

Gotta be column shift manual or auto when ever I see one i look to see, if it's colum change auto or manual nope no good
Earlier cars seem more often, later cars floor shift, is that because not available later or customer preferences floor change

Nice video my dad had a v4 Zephyr as a minicab in early 70s. He had hardly any problems with it. I know the V4 lump had a bad reputation but maybe he was just lucky

@@Diggers-Garage Great as taxis - lots of room- really flexible engine around town - good on mpg compared to the V6- and the steering was better because the engine did not overhang the front wheels. I had a Consul V4 (Granada shape) ex taxi, Stella miles, the auto box gave up before the engine ever did and was a lovely driver. Later had a pinto Granada, seemed a bit wheezy to me compared to the Consul.

Having said that I did later get a 1986 2ltr pinto Capri with a 3ltr carb and a bit of tuning also added a 4 speed racing gearbox and that thing was fast.

    • @dungareesareforfools
      @dungareesareforfools 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Believe me, a mk1 Escort with a tuned Pinto is quick! However, I've sometimes wondered what a v4 would be like in one - might have been easier to engineer the RS2000 that way.
