#SupremeCourt #Biden #SCOTUS
Term limits for all branches of goverment
Age limits for all branches of government
good luck with that
4 year terms.
Members of the political class will not submit to term limits. The first thing a politician does when he or she is elected is to work towards reelection.
If Biden was gonna do that he would have during his first 2 years. Democrats are not going to relinquish their power thru term limits
As the old adage states, "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."
I like the part about the SCOTUS hit squads
In the court there should only be one politic and one religion "THE LAW"
Instead 6 of them are full maga.
@kimschneider5379 ok, i agree, but if you believe the reversal of reverse wade has led yiu your train of thought you should know this truth. In 1973 the support court with a seven to two vote passed roe vs wade into law. Now . Fifty years later the current Supreme Court reverse their decision. Why is it any different than the Supreme Court in 1973 forcing it on the people in the first place?
Yes that is called conservatism. The activist are the progressives and are the ones inventing meaning of the constitution.
The court is primarily concerned with the constitution.
t.r.campbell, To the contrary they've shredded the Constitution with so much more to come in the republican party platform Project 2025. Stop Pretending
I've been signing petitions to limit terms of SCOTUS and write an enforceable code of ethics for SCOTUS for years. It's a no-brainer. Lifespans in the 1770s-1780s was about 50-60. Now, it's 90-100.
It's about to be so much longer than 100 if you're got the money, and are still reasonably healthy.
Absolutely needed.
I think it’s not bad timing either… the court has shown itself to be corrupt at this point and things have reached the breaking point with maintaining a system of equality under the law in the U.S.
Having these real life examples of how, for example the ethics system of the court or self recusal is not working, is important and helpful when approaching the question of reforms.
Plus, at this point there is overwhelming public support to do something.
When the left had control of the court no one talked about term limits. Only after they lost control.
Cool opinion. Not many people agree with you, most importantly the Constitution is not on your side.
I’m a Republican and I’m totally fine with term limits on the Supreme Court. I believe an equally pressing issue is term limits on congress. It’s bananas that I’m in my 30’s and Nancy Pelosi and Mitch McConnell have been in congress for longer than I’ve been alive.
THANK YOU
Grassley is in his 90's.🤔
You can be Republican and not vote for a fascist wannabe dictator you know this right? Trump wins this economy is going to be destroyed.
@@Mari-oe6te
he is 90 now
That's because the poster doesn't understand what the real problem is... It's not ELECTED officials.
Then there's the fact it's never going to happen, but that's another issue.
It is necessary, I’m glad Biden is addressing this issue
If you don’t like their rulings then you are probably doing all you can with your vote. That is why we want Biden to be an authoritarian while simultaneously calling Trump an authoritarian. If progressives can’t control a thing then they will destroy the thing. Be warned that whatever the democrats do today will come back to haunt them tomorrow. That’s how we got a conservative court in the first place.
He's barely going to drag his senile drooling a** to January so why bother with something that is DOA in the GOP controlled House? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Since most people say Biden is too old then Alito and Thomas have gotta retire too because they’re also in their 70’s.
His age isn't the problem, it's his ailment. If the same thing happens to a Supreme Court judge, then Yes that's time to go. And since complex back-and-forth is what they do, it's obvious when it happens. Clarence Thomas was brilliant arguing for us Americans' freedom of speech, recently in Moody v Netchoice.
@@AuroraColoradoUSA Clarence thomas also fights for the American people by taking millions of dollars to change things
Dementia not age
@@AuroraColoradoUSAhe doesn’t have an ailment he’s been medically cleared. Stop breathing in disinformation.
There should just be an age limit all around to simplify it!
It should have been shifted into motion when Mioscow Mitch decreed when to nominate SC judges.
That Turtle is the main reason we're in the current situation ! He Is The Blame !
@@boppin_bennie💙💙💙
Not only that, but the double standard he enacted based on whose party was president. It was bad enough when he delayed Obama's appointment to "let the people decide" but then when Trump was in the same position he rushed it right through and we have one more conservative justice than we should. Absolutely should've started reforms around then.

Yes! Close those loop holes in the constitution!!
What loop holes ?
@@petermontalbano3910 right, I don’t believe it was a loophole. Rather, it was intended. Reasonable minds can differ and argue about whether we should amend the constitution to impose term limits for Supreme Court justices, but this was absolutely intended by the framers. Hard to argue that point.
Congress also. All branches of America government need term limits
Please don't just consider it.
Please ACT ON IT. HELP!!!
Very late for anything.

No! It MUST be reformed!!!!
We want turn limits on the house and the Senate
The Roberts version of the constitution just says three words: “Whatever Benefits Republicans.”
We noticed the Dems' motto is, "If we don't like the results, let's change the rules to benefit us."
Not necessarily true. Some Republicans are beginning to write articles impeachment against Joe Biden for his refusal to enforce America’s laws pertaining to immigration and the border. The most recent Supreme Court decision pertaining to actions while an individual is president will protect Joe Biden from these articles of impeachment, the Republicans want to impose.
Republicans do the same, they just blatantly lie and say it's always been that way @@DerrickW30
@@DerrickW30 Republican-appointed judges are responsible for overturning abortion rights, which were previously considered settled law. The same judges are the one who made the unprecedented ruling on presidential immunity. Those are but a couple obvious examples that Dems are not the problem here.

Would the Constitution have to be amended?
yes. And it is a lot harder than people think to do that. I don't think 3/4 of the states would support this.

Reform to the supreme court & "citizens united," as it applies to political campaigning, please.
I agree 100%! IMHO "Citizens United" is responsible for 90% of the corruption & anti-democracy behaviour we see in politics today.
Agree, time to take the courts down.
Make the term limits retroactive. I say, expand the Court!
a good way to stack the court, maybe there should be 30 or 40 democrats on the supreme court
Yes Trump should expand the court to 18. Thanks to the Democrats for getting rid of the Senate filibuster!
There's 12 federal circuits there should be 13 judges.
We're wanting to expand the supreme court too, after Trump wins again. We're planning to put 20 more conservative justices on the court and they will be young. Long terms to serve.
Dems want to change the court again. The movie "Idiocracy" would be funny but Dems think it is a plan to act on.
I think the supreme Court upholds our constitution that's their job and that's what they do.. and I think the Democratic party wants to push the limits on whatever they want ?
8 years and out. 2 terms for Congress. 70 and out for President. Fix the problem, ditch the band aids.
Wrong. Appointed officials are one thing. Elected officials are another. You want to vote or not vote for someone based solely on age fine. I don't. I'd rather have an 81 year old who gets results than a 39 year old who's green.

Good luck. A change to the Supreme Court regarding term limits and a retirement age would require a constitutional amendment. Call me cynical but I'll start to believe that Biden/Harris Admin might actually be serious about pushing SCOTUS reform in Congress when, and only when, the legislation is filed & the President publicly supports it. Until then, I'm gonna simply consider these reports as more Campaign Promises, akin to the Public Option of the 2020 Campaign that we heard from Candidate Biden but not a peep from President Biden.
Why can't old men just put on their slippers and read the books they always wanted to. Why aren't younger people allowed to have great careers?
A politician with a 50-year career wanting to impose term limits on others just because he's miffed about recent rulings? Now that's peak irony.
The supreme court is slanted in favor of republicans. Of course you dont want change. It’s funny how modern republicans hate democracy.
The Founders agreed on one major thing: There had to be the enslavement of Africans and Black people, and there was so much focus on that to the point that many things we now lament are missing were intentionally left out because they would have run counter to an economy built around slavery.

@@chrisward4576 Wrong.
there are a lot of things to reform in the US constitutional process. the constitution written by Thomas Jefferson in 1789 was one of a third world country, incapable of assuring the safety and security to its citizens,, crippled by pervasive crime, corruption and banditism. this is why for instance it contained the right to carry a weapon, or the protection of fossil fuel industries...etc
now i think that it is adequate to say that the situation of the United States has evolved. and the world has evolved since 1789. the USA went from a poor country largely overpassed by United Kingdom, France, and Germany, to a global superpower which has the first economy in the world, which assures the security of the democratic and capitalist world, and which leads in international institutions. For instance, it now has the means to finance and organize police, and end the law on guns rights which is now jeopardizing the US public safety with mass shootings, and we saw it with Trump's assassination attempt.
our modern time is affected by the climate crisis, thing that is new and not embedded in the US constitution. Climate change is threatening to flood a part of the USA, with New York that can find itself under water, Miami that can find itself under water, California that will experience a severe drought, some parts of the american south in a scenario of plus 4 degrees could find themselves ''unlivable'' because of a too high temperature combined with a too high humidity. this is a really serious issue and the supreme court should join the US administration in tackling climate change, not hampering its efforts.
the electoral college designed for a rural america in 1780 is not representative of the demography of the US states anymore : coastal cities like San Francisco, New York, New Jersey or Los Angeles do concentrate much more population then interior cities of interior states like Iowa, Vermont, Nebraska or Kentucky. we are ending up with elections where a minority of voters choose the president of the United States like in 2016 and 2000, and a president that is picking a non representative supreme court for at least 20 years ! this is absurde.
In the year 2024, other new elements have emerged, like the internet intellectual property, the cybercriminality and the dark web, fake news and election interference on social medias, remote jobs and working from distance, robotisation and Artificial Intelligence that creates a lot of new legal fields... All those things are new to the initial form of the US constitution and its interpretation.
The list of antagonism between the US supreme court and the vaste majority of the american people goes on for womens reproductive rights, for student debt, for expanding medicare... etc
I do think that the US should reform the supreme court system.
For these changes to happen, The President must also have the support of Congress. President Biden has had an advisory committee of Constitutional Scholars for more than a year. If attempted earlier, a Constitutional Amendment that requires a 60% vote would have gone the same way as the bipartisan Border Bill. Vote Blue across the entire ticket, if you want to see these changes.
If everyone had voted, we wouldn't have these problems. It's as simple as that.
The crypts of Washington DC the judge goes to work at 7:30
the ideal reversibility, will encompass not being entitled to receive a vote, with being disqualified from casting one.
Even if this was true, he waited too long to do something that majority saw as a problem. On top if that, he has no time to fix it, and no chance of getting the Congressional support to make it happen. This is just lio service when prior to this we needed action. We needed something real to happen which is now reduced to a campaign slogan/promise. This is one of the things I would attribute to as failure of the Biden Administration for they lacked the courage to address this prior.
