Melissa played an undeniably OUTSTANDING game! Sarah deserves a bit more credit than the commentators seem to be giving her though. Her block is such a big presence that the US has to hit around it, which makes reading where the ball is going to be hit easier for the defender. Team effort by the Canadians and we are so proud of them!
Yeah, I agree there. But what I do agree with the commentators about Pavan's blocking is when the ball goes through her arms. She's a great blocker, so I dunno if it was timing or what other factors but I think it happened a little too many times. But I did love that that 1 commentator at 38:33 explaining what Pavan did. There was no replay for that, and the commentator acknowledged that. Although that takes skill tho, to do that. I also saw like 1 forced error from USA due to Pavan's blocking (there could've been more and I just didn't see it).
@@vailingbow1068 When the commentator said it had happened 5 times at least, it had only been 3 times max... so I do think they were a little harsh on her while really championing the other girl... seemed a clear distinction but I have been over sensitive at times.
@@dvduadotcom Yeah, but I think it's a little too much considering it's the finals and it has happened more times, but Melissa was able to save a good portion of those. But still she's a good blocker. And being a blocker is hard work.
20:15 the commentators taking a dig at Sarah for not getting stuff blocks and saying Melissa's doing the hard work when Sarah's directing the hits straight for her to get them up is totally unfair. They are doing super precise work as a team here. Both are doing exactly what they are supposed to do and in near perfect sync with each other
@Edward-W Right. Like at 31:50 Sarah shows Melissa where the hit will come, with the fingers behind her back. And she jumps to block the cross, so Melissa can get the straight shot. Right after that, the commenters say "it's like she just knows where the US will play the ball". Are you kidding me?
@@thanossnap4170 exactly. I didn't think actual commentators could be so oblivious about their own sport. It wasn't magic or some kind of telepathy or clairvoyance that Melissa knows where the ball will be. It's teamwork. It's Sarah directing the hits to her so she can get them. Very basic stuff in beach volley but team Canada is just doing it so seamlessly that it looks almost accidental how well they work

I think she prioritized Melissa saving the ball and killing it right after cause US couldn't counter her. They only made 2 solid blocks against her. In the whole game.

@@robertbucks5537 I'm not an expert, but I think that's a testament to Sarah's blocking. Probably also why it's "not that hard" for Melissa. Blocking isn't all about stuff blocking. I think their most important job in blocking in defense is communicating with ground defense. To narrow down shots so it's easier to dig like forcing a player to go straight when the intent was cross. Usually that's so the passer can dig the ball or if you're lucky, force a error. I saw Pavan force an error in the match.

This was by far the worst I have ever seen April Ross play. I have so much respect for her and I would have loved to see her get this gold medal. But she had way too many unforced errors and Klineman could not pick up the pieces fast enough. Klineman is new at this so its still a major accomplishment for her but I would think April Ross must be dissapointed in herself. She is a far better player than Melissa on any given day.

Most of the shots that went Melissa's way, were not that hard, though. This was the world champs and the atmosphere was better than the game itself.
