  • In this video I take a look at the details of two filters from Optolong - the L-eNhance and L-eXtreme - and compare them through tests in my heavily light polluted yard. Being that these filters are geared toward amateur astrophotographers, all tests have been performed on relatively basic (affordable) setups, and are aimed at a goal of producing aesthetically pleasing images.

Thanks for taking the time to gather the data and produce your video. Very helpful for both filter use and for me, the reward of getting a likable image in a relatively short time. I'm also in Bortle 6 and recently considered going Mono but the accessibility of a colour camera and multiband pass filters is leading me to stick with colour imaging.

I’m glad you found it helpful. I do still prefer mono imaging for the overall quality and increased flexibility in editing, but for speed and simplicity you just can beat an OSC with multiband pass filter!

👍Thanks for the detailed review! I've been using the L-eNhance with my telescopes for a number of years and it has never let me down in my Bortle 8 zone.

One big difference is the clip in option of the L-enhance for DSLR users, as it allows us to get the most out of our lenses. Great review 👌🏽

Absolutely- the clip-in options are great! (With pretty much everything but an ultra wide lens)

Great review and really well edited. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I would love to see a vs that also included the ultimate.

Terrific review! I live in a Bortle 6 area also and am just getting started on DSO photography. This answered a bunch of questions for me. Thank you!

Great review on both filters I know either versions can suffer with halos so it looks like you've got a good L-Extreme filter, I will say these dual band filters have proved to be a game changer in this hobby as for years before I'd be imaging with a modified DSLR with no filter or a CLS filter fitted. The results I were getting weren't what I'd call average unless I were imaging from star parties.

Agreed - these filters are really making the hobby so much more accessible

@@marcrasselphotography better resolution and better colours as well especially the blues seem to come out more (O3) unfortunately the clouds here in Australia are horrible Also no halos from what I can see.
