yugoxgc Mainly because the Hippogriffs in the show's canon (asuming the movie is canon) are much diffrent from Silver Quill's OC, I thought he was gonna act over the top that his species is different from the canon.
"I don't trust people who say they know how the world works, 'cause usually they only understand half the world." Words of truth, or at the very least, highly probable accuracy, right there.
Story from Denmark, in the cinema. So, me and my friend were the only people on the cinema that weren't kids or parents, and before the movie started I heard a mother ask her daughter what the story of the show was, getting some idea to it before it started. Now, I didn't hear the rest of the conversation from there, but just a nice little thing. The movie ended some time later, and everyone seemed to have enjoyed it, kids and parents, most were even sitting through most of the credits, just listening to the songs. So, don't know if any of them got lost at any point or catched on quickly, but there was clear enjoyment there, and I can't ask for more than that. The movie was just a good time.
One thing I want to point out about Tempest. Some people say her reason for being a villain due to a broken horn is too weak, but they're overlooking the world she grew up in after leaving Equestria. The film showed us the type of people she'd grow up with ala Kludgetown citizens. Backstabbing, narcissistic, unfriendly sort. Is it really any wonder that she became the kind of pony she is in the film? It would be like a kid running away from home from some quiet country town to Detroit.
How about that last jab at the Storm King that Songbird Serenade (Sia) got in before her song? "Let's all appreciate the fact we're all here in one piece" What a burn!
Silver quill: "Woah Blade Runner! Yes I am going to see Blade Runner! WHOA Blade Runner! So excited for the Blade Runner! *whispers* one for my little pony please. WHOAH BLADE RUNNER!!" Me: "Yeah can I get two adults for My Little Pony the Movie Please? What? You got a problem with that? Thank you." Two types of fans right there.
Me:*looks to friends* hey *gives money to weirdest one in the group * please buy my ticket Friend:ha alright no balls*goes to buy tickets and gets embarrassed * Me:*proceeds to laugh ass off* I'm a good friend I swear
Fortunately for myself the entire theatre was abandoned literally there was one person behind the counter and he was wearing a Brony cap so I openly asked for a ticket and he said and I quote "woah a fellow Brony huh" "yep" "what did you think of season 6?" "Yeah it was alright but season 7 is cool too" he gave me my ticket I went and watched with all empty rows of chairs and when I left the theatre about 50 people were standing in line to see blade runner so I saw that too and it was equally fantastic
I find it interesting that the hippogriffs/seaponies are in a safe position, but they're not happy where they are. Like Capper and the pirates before them, the Mane 6 and Spike bring something new to them that makes them rethink what they're doing, if only temporarily. In the end, only Skystar lends her support, but by just being themselves, this group won over the heart of the Queen, and nearly reached a diplomatic solution that wasn't possible before.
I don't think it is. Silver is a first gen hybrid, being the son of a pony and a griffin. The hippogryphs in the movie are a long line of pony/eagle hybrids. There is no bratty kitty part in their lineage. Since Silver is close enough to his pony origins, I'd say it's entirely possible that he has a real cutie mark.
I had the same thought. In mythology hippogriffs are a crossbreed between griffins and horses. Silver Quill has stated before that his father is a griffin and his mother is a pony, so he is completely in keeping with that tradition. In the movie we see hippogriffs that have interbred for (presumably) many generations and become a distinct species. It makes complete sense that he would be a different type of hippogriff than what we saw in the movie and that he might have more in common with his close pony and griffin family members than with hippogriffs that are genetically further removed from their ancestors.
Silver Quill is a second_level chimera. His father is first_level chimera (either direct offspring through feline+bird mating; or delayed by 2 or more generations of the same species). His mother is a normal pony (so 50% chance of getting pony magic).
*watches the Movie, and gets to the scene with Fluttershy listening to the 1 goon into submission* 0.o! *can't help but think* "Wow, Fluttershy can give Dr. Wolf a run for his money. lol"
Twilight could have fixed Tempest's horn when she was holding the staff with the power to do so. She could have done it as a sign of friendship. Nah, let's keep Tempest as is for toy reasons...I mean "you're perfect ask you are."
During that same scene we had a young kid ask 'was he evil?', and it sounded like he was asking if it ok that the Storm King had all but died. That kid is going places.
When Discord got petrified he was still aware of everything around him. But I've no idea if a petrified being would feel pain... and feel no temptation to ask a Basilisk or Cockatrice help to find out.
There seems to be multiple forms of turned-to-stone petrification in the series. The reactions of Tempest and the princesses when they were returned back to normal lead me to believe that they had lost all sense of awareness of the world around them when petrified. Of course that would also mean that the Storm King was effectively dead before he even shattered.
I thoroughly enjoyed Twilight's journey through this film. She had the weight of Equestria thrust upon her very suddenly, was frustrated that her friends didn't seem to be taking their situation seriously, and was ultimately rejected by the one being Celestia thought would help them. We were watching her fall to rock bottom, and when Novo said she wouldn't help, Twilight hit bottom hard. When someone hits rock bottom, especially in a desperate situation, they're almost guaranteed to do something they wouldn't normally condone, much less do themselves. It felt like a very natural character arc, and one I thought was very well thought out for Twilie. The one big problem I had with this movie was the reason why Twilight didn't know where to go. Celestia talked soooooo sloooooow when telling Luna where to go. It was like Nicole Oliver was doing an over-exaggerated Shatner impression with her lines. "Go south. Beyond the badlands.".........."Seek help. From the Queen of the. Hippo..." Is that really the fastest you could talk, Tia? You just watched Cadence get turned to stone!
Better Questions, where is Starlight Glimmer (The OP Magical Prodigy who broke time and space) and Discord (The reality twisting God of Madness and Fluttershy's Husbando)
Honestly one of my favorite things was when Spike said one of his one-liners and the mom behind me (with her two little kids) snorted loud enough for everyone to hear. Brings a tear to my eye thinking about Lauren Faust first saying she was also writing for the parents to enjoy with their kids. Also Spike was written *perfectly* in this movie.
When Derpy Hooves got petrified, I couldn't help but bubble slightly. Her courage, her sacrifice, I mean I knew she'd be okay but I just...had to step out of the film for a moment to compose myself(And to go to the toilet). Also when Twilight tried to steal the pearl I felt like snapping at the Queen of the Hypocrites! I knew what Twilight was doing wasn't smart because I knew those Jellyfish tentacles dangling from the ceiling were an alarm but the Queen was like "Your kingdom? screw your kingdom". I was thinking Queen asshole, you had an option to save your kingdom and Twilight just wants a way to save friends and Family! So to be honest I was like screw you freaky fish queen. All in all I really liked the film thou. (Also Pinkie is best pony in the film with her Gatling cupcake gun hooves!) (Also I love the Parrot Pirates)
You notice how the Storm King is TRYING to be evil. I find that a bit interesting. I like to look at it as not the movie trying to say "Get it? He's evil!" but rather the villain himself being like "I'm trying to be evil here! LOOK!" So now I wonder...why is he striving so hard to be evil? Do you think they'll make a sequel giving him more of a spotlight and give him a backstory? Also I think the song "Firework" by Katy Perry would've been perfect for those ending scenes when that pop star pony was singing. I even played that song for that part of the movie and IT FIT SO WELL! AAAH! I know Katy Perry is not who that pop star pony was based off of but still!
I do feel you at the end, though in this case it's because of their sea pony versions. See, over in RPG Maker, I've been working on an RPG that involved legit sea ponies for over half a year now, and I was definitely worried that this movie would screw with stuff I'd already established. Turns out it kinda did the opposite. I'm free to say my sea ponies are their own thing, natural and separate from the hippogriffs.
3:15 The movie would be about the same, really. If you pay close attention, Rainbow Dash saves Twilight at the very last second. Sadly, that fun cameo was only a fake-out for the villain.
*adjusts glasses* aCTUALLY, all sharks and fish sleep, some species of sharks have special organs to pump water through their gills so they can breathe while sleeping on the sea floor. Other species swim while sleeping, their eyelids are see-through so it looks like they're awake, but their brains are fast-asleep. *waves hand in an "the more you know" arc*
I saw the movie too and when I realized there were hippogriffs in the movie, I IMMEDIATELY thought of you! Also Bizzarogriff just sounds too perfect for you, I love it XD You are pretty crazy after all lol I should make time to watch that movie again because the theatres are done playing it. I really liked that movie.
2:40 ...While I agree with that somewhat, I think it's actually a benefit for this kind of film. Think about it; how many villains pretend to be doing what's best, when in truth, they're really just sociopathic jerks? It's actually kinda refreshing to see characters unafraid to admit their villainy, and being rather unapologetic about it, too. What with how many animated films these days go for the surprise villain (Looking at you, Zootopia, Frozen, and pretty much every Toy Story sequel!), it's nice to see an occasion return to the villain who does evil for evil's sake. Besides, does Storm look like he could be anything resembling a cuddly creature that only wants what's best for Equestria? Didn't think so.
Actually, in a recent interview Amy Keating Rogers said that Lauren Faust asked her to change the name of the grey pegasus (the mane and eye colors were not defined at the script level), "Ditzy Doo" [named as such by Cindy Morrow]; back in early 2011 when they were revising the script for "The Last Roundup" [S2E14] previously to make the teleplay. -> The reason for the change was Faust doing research on forums, DeviantArt & 4-Chan, acquiring general info from bronies including fan-names for ponies of the show [Faust could do this because she was not "on payroll" anymore for DHX, acting just as a consultant].
I have to say, I think the part about calling the villain "evil" is dileberate, and not in the usual way. Recall that with his introduction he was commenting on his own name/title, showing that he has been "trying it out" or something like that. I think he wants people to think of him as evil because it's possible that he wants people to fear and respect him and sees such a branding as an easy way to do that. After all, he doesn't make himself out as a "hero of the people" so why leave it ambiguous about how people should think of him? As for the "easy forgiveness" part, I think it is actually weird how quickly people in this fandom go to questioning it. So far, every villain who was directly punished for their crimes never reformed because of it, while (most) every villain shown kindness and forgiveness went on to do good. Nightmare Moon was just as evil and crazy before her banishment than afterwards. Same with Discord, Sombra, and Tirek. Starlight lost everything she worked towards to and had nothing and nobody left to turn to and rather than reflecting on the wrongs she did, she tried to get even instead. Chrysalis similarly lost everything because of her villainy and we know she's not going to try and be a good person after such "punishment." It wasn't until Discord was repeatedly given kindness in spite of his actions did he reform. Starlight turned the same way. And this movie showed it again and again. Capper was going to sell the ponies into slavery, the pirates were going to throw them off their ship, the hippogriffs refused to help, and Tempest betrayed her own people and hunted down Twilight. When shown kindness and compassion, Capper risked his own neck for the ponies, as did the pirates and Skystar, and Tempest practically took a bullet for Twilight. Everything about MLP and this movie practically screams that it is better to show people forgiveness and compassion than seek to punish them for wronging you; because even if it doesn't always work, when it does it really pays off and both parties are better for it. If someone did something wrong, recognize it, and tried to make up for it, then there is no point in punishing them other than to satisfy some need of seeing them hurt even more or because one doesn't think they have suffered/done enough; which is a human instinct that is rather repulsive to me. If they don't realize what they were doing is wrong or have no intention of making up for their wrong, then that is where punishment of some kind should come in. But it isn't really needed for all the named characters that did wrong (as they either redeemed themselves or are dead, in the Storm King's case). And well, the faceless goons who are also shown forgiveness despite showing no regret or redemption, it is possible they were just pressed into working for the Storm King against their own will, and they kind of were subject to punishment by tornado, so I think they learned their lesson anyway; it's not like the movie had the time to flesh out such minor characters just to justify a credits gag.
But also a nice bit of consistency with how the show has shown that there are some thing magic just can't do when it comes to a pony's body (can't create a cutie mark, can't repair a mane, can't regrow a unicorn's horn).
Maybe, they left it kind of ambiguous as to whether Storm King didn't keep the deal by choice or because he truly couldn't do it or didn't know how. But that Tempest' horn isn't fixed even when her body is restored from stone makes me think it was beyond the power of the princesses. Healing magic in general seems to be almost nonexistent in Equestria, you tend to usually get at most the reversing of damage caused by magic (i.e. when the castle gets fixed). One of the few cases of healing was when Rarity got her tail hair regrown, but that was done by the Elements of Harmony.
What was really missing was *DISCORD* where was he!? He would have turned the enemies into chocolate milk before Tempest could finish her speech. Also Changelings? Ember and the dragons? Why was Equestria's best hope a long forgotten kingdom? Also hated the movie's hippogriff design, they looked more super pegasi than hippogriffs. Silverquill has a much better design which reflects the chimerical nature of the species.
we wouldnt have a movie and he probably wasnt allowed in based on twilights uhh unique relation with him. that or he wanted to see how this whole would go down
SPOILERS!!!!!! So I take it that your a first generation Hippogriff? Since these ones clearly went through a few generations. Heck, could be your justification to why you look different. :P Basically you're the first of a crossbreed in a long while
Did they really imply the hippogriffs had been under the sea for that long? My impression was Storm King had been operating for years, not decades or generations.
UH...That...isn't even what I meant...at all... I meant that the Hippogriffs all descnedents from crossbreeding with other Hippogriffs that allowed for more diversity between each other since they are all unique in some way since the first generations (What Silver Quill is) is basically the earliest point a Hippogriff has; half bird and half horse (With clear discinctions between each half) but after a few generations in the Hippogriff community, they evolved to a mix of each trait.
Ryodraco also they only hid relatively recently. If you go by the prequel novel the entire reason they go into hiding was when Fizzlepop tried to steal the pearl. So all that’s happened since was stealing the branch from the tree of harmony to make that staff.
Silver, I'm surprised at you. You didn't make a big deal out of the seaponies being the hippogriffs. Or when Princess Skystar came out of the water as a hippogriff.
We watched the new My Little Pony movie in theatres. At the time, there were a lot of little things that weren't great, but now that I've had an hour to think about it, I've decided I really liked the movie. Not for all the surface things, but because of the underlying thesis of the movie. As you grow up, people tell you to not trust the world. People are out to take advantage of you, and it's your duty to take advantage for yourself. You owe nothing to noone. Twilight had begun to believe in that idea, thanks to the junk that happenend in the first half of the film, and Tempest had completely embraced it. But that is not how the world SHOULD be, and if you treat the world differently, but freely giving of yourself, you will find that the world will give back to you. Anyway: It was quite a bit darker and scarier than we had expected, which makes some sense given that thesis I just explained. Our kids were quite terrified at certain parts. But, yeah, good movie.
Thank you Silver, this helped brighten up my day, my dog is currently in a vet office and I don't know if he's going to survive. This video helped keep me from having a Twilight level nervous breakdown.
I guess I was expecting a bit much from Silver Quill's reaction to hippogriff being introduced. I was expecting to see a sea pony form, his house in the mountain city, and his take on their society. I guess with all that in my head I was bound to be let down. At first I thought he wasn't going to mention it at all. Can we at least get a couple hail Queen Novos in the future?
THis was obviously made for those who at had at least passing familiarity with the characters. I appreciated that they didn't do an 'origins' story. The animation was very well done. The songs were catchy (I hadn't even heard of Sia before the movie). The story had the typical throw away villian with a lot of convenient continuity amnesia. "Oh we need help, lets go find this race we've never met before." What about Dragons, Gryphons, Zebras (Zecora didn't even have a cameo as far as I could tell)? I think they are at the point where any villain actually powerful enough to be a real challenge would probably just eat the planet before they had a chance to react (Galactus finds Equestria delicious).
Except the movie was in production long before Dragons and possibly Gryphons were allied. And Zebras? We only saw one. (And Zecora did have a cameo. Watch the beginning of the movie again)
Wonderful to know everyone enjoyed this movie as much as I did! As far as ponies on the silver screen go, I think this was about as grand as they could go on the first try. *Edit* Also, I loved your reaction to the hippogriffs in this film! Question: did anyone else immediately think of Silver Quill the moment the word "hippogriffs" was spoken?
8:55 It should be noted that one of those mooks was burned to death. Seriously re watch that scene, one mook did not get back up and was engulfed in fire.
Yes I agree! Don't be a pirate please support the official release! Sort of Spoilers below... Interesting point about the short at the beginning, although I must admit I was only feeling, "what the heck is this? Can we please start the movie?" lol I'm really dissapointed that the Royal Guard weren't even here at all. This is the one time that they would've had something meaningful and cool to do and they're not even here. Even though yeah they would've got their butt's kicked it still would've been nice if they got to even try to do something. Also the Princesses and Equestria got steamrolled way too easy. At first I was shocked by Twilight's behavior since she did make a horrible mistake, but so have most of the mane 6 which have only made a bad situation worse. That and how desperate Twilight is to fix this herself is what causes her to make such bad choices. 9:44 I have to agree, but that moment with her and Princess Skystar was so funny. Skystars expression was priceless! I'm honestly not thrilled by this movie but overall it was pretty good because Tempest was pretty cool. Stay Strong and Pony On BlueStar Out
Thanks for commenting! Was great to hear your thoughts. Had so much fun with friends joking about how you'd react to the hippogriffs. Expect ALL the Skystar shipping now. Or maybe Queen Novo. Will have to commission my artist friends. ... Mwwahaha. Was wondering about your thoughts on the smaller roles Applejack and especially Fluttershy had, in terms of not befriending any new characters or having that large a role overall. I have to say, though, the only thing that made me tilt my head was your comment about Twilight thinking of herself as a model princess. I didn't get that feeling from her at all. She has a lot of doubt about herself and her role, seeing her title as something she has to live up to but never feels comfortable with it. I expect she thinks that Cadance and the Sisters make it all look so easy and that Twilight herself is somehow deficient. I attributed her actions to her feelings of isolation, frustration and despair at losing the other Princesses and the feeling she expressed at the festival, that it all came down to her--all the moreso since Equestria fell. And given how nasty the folks outside of Equestria have been, she began to become more reserved, more cynical, thinking that what worked in Equestria (i.e., friendship) won't fly out here. By the same token, she saw her friends efforts at befriending Capper, Celaeno, etc. as a waste of time. Twilight is more analytical and focused while her friends didn't appear to be treating this as seriously as she did, especially Pinkie. But not everyone reacts to serious situations in the same way. I thought the movie was a great commentary on the idea that friendship is important as just 'kid stuff' as Tempest and even Twilight came to believe, something that only applied in Equestria and not in the dark, real world outside of it. And while making friends requires sacrificing your own time and takes a while, which made Twilight frustrated, in the long run it pays off, and is what allowed Equestria to be saved. So I thought that message worked really well. As a Twilight fan I'm not happy that she erred, but at least it was the kind of mistake that was perfectly understandable given the stakes, and was well-set up. I really enjoyed this movie, the songs and new characters (well, Grubber felt pointless and even Songbird was a bit over-hyped given her minimal role). The story may have been a standard heroes jounerying from their fantasy land to save it, it was still well done. I hope this becomes the childhood classic that Transformers (1986) was to our generation. Have a good one, Silver!
How am I the only one who realize that the cupcake attack by pinkie was meant to be slightly disturbing? Just replace the frosting with blood and listen very closely to her laughing. I personally find myself conflicted, though upon reflection I've come to realize that a great deal of that me be because I went with my family who are not fans of the series and may of spend too much time worrying about whether or not they enjoyed it whether or not if I did. The animation is good- the camera angles feel overcrowded at times. All the characters are excellent- I don't feel like we were given a good amount time establishing them or their motives, especially the antagonists. The basic plot is very good- I feel like they needed to extend movie by thirty minutes worth of plot. The fact that you have to read side books to learn more about the characters is something that I feel is a downside. A great deal characterization in depth is left out of the movie because of it. All in all, I felt like this was a very good movie that was hampered by a restriction, it felt like they had to cut scenes from the movie because of studio mandate saying " too long of a movie would not entertain kids". If I had to summarize, it's a good movie with the very bad pacing.
I'm a changeling, I AM everywhere. for wherever there is a good MLP review, I'll be there. Wherever a brony is free to speak his mind, I'll be there. Wherever grown men talk about a a franchise directed at children without it being creepy, I'll be there. And wherever silver quill needs to have an object dropped on his head that seems to come out of nowhere, I'll be there.
I thought Rainbow was great. Sure it wasn't a celebratory but I thought it was beautiful and Sia does have a set of pipes on her. No arguing that. As for no royal guards? I thought something was missing. Yeesh, security in equestria just sucks. I wonder what Cadence is gonna do to Shining Armor when she gets back home? I'm most likely thinking he won't just get the couch for eternity. Lol. Also, pirate parrots, that's clever if you ask me.
Considering Twilight's "OOC" moment: She did not just witness her mentors usurped, she saw them get killed. She doesn't know the petrification crystal things are reversable, only petrifying we've seen on the show was thanks to the elements of harmony, and they are no longer a factor. As far as she's concerned, she doesn't only have to save Equestria, she has to take up the position of ruler of two empires. Considering she's already prone to stress, I could see her act out of character
I would support this movie. If it was anywhere around here and wasn't dubbed in my own language, cause our voice actors haven't had a good voice since the early 2000's . I'll just pick up the dvd when it comes out.
Great review of the movie "Screwy-Quill". XD I immediately thought of you as soon as the word "Hippogriff" was mentioned in the movie, but I applaud you for choosing to keep the design of your own Hippogriff OC. I'm sure there's plenty of different types of Hippogriffs in Equestria, just as there are different types of people in our world. And also, I'm glad that you're one of the few people who actually understood the reasoning behind Twilight's behavior in the last half of the movie. A lot of people have been calling it OOC for her to snap like that, but we've seen her get anxious when a lot of pressure is put on her, and with so much put upon her shoulders for this movie, it's understandable how she would react, and I applaud the others for staying close instead of the whole "go their separate ways" cliche.
I think your point could have been made more effectively by the film. Just a shot of Twi frazzling up a la Lesson Zero; just a line of internal monologue to establish that she was preparing to cast off her moral code out of desperation.
Another entertaining and enlightening video, as usual. I would also like to say thank you, since your the one who made me a fan of this show. It started with a reviewer I subscribe to reviewing Equestria Girls, that lead me to your video on Flash Sentry, and here I am. So, thanks, I guess.
The movie premiered this friday here in sweden. The problem was, at my cinema at least. Thay only had the swedish dub. So I bought a ticket fore the top left corner of the theater, and then went home and downloaded the leaked copy. :-)
Sorry to burst your bubble about the "big sacrifice" but... Watch this clip in slow motion; th-cam.com/video/zmqx7RKc9lY/w-d-xo.html Derpy comes in from the left side of the screen. You can see her when it's zoomed out, then it zooms in and she enters the screen again, and it zooms in one more time. Dash is the one who calls out "Twilight" and there's a rainbow flash as she pulls her out of the way. Then Derpy's the one turned to crystal. So Derpy was trying to save Twilight, but was too slow. Dash got her out of the way in time and the loveable muffin mare actually took the crystal bomb to the face for no reason. Still inspiring that she put forth her best in a bad situation, but your point is sadly undercut by the fact that she didn't actually impact the movie terribly much. Without her, the only difference is Tempest knows she missed a lot sooner. Show less
Actually, the orb would have hit Twilight and Rainbow Dash if Derpy had not blocked. So while she was not the one who got Twilight out of the way. She did save her.
"Without her, the only difference is Tempest knows she missed a lot sooner." You're not wrong about what happened, but I don't think we can definitively say Derpy had no impact here. Tempest being distracted for those few moments when she thought she'd captured Twilight could easily have made a difference in whether they were able to escape. If Tempest had pressed her pursuit immediately, things could have played out very differently indeed.
HalflingPony I don't really agree... Dash is fast and there's still a cloud of smoke that obscures her vision for a few seconds. But there's no solid proof either way on this one, so it's just opinion. We'll just have to agree to disagree.
Moon Blaze dash may be fast but the other 5 aren't. What they mean is that all of them wouldnt have gotten away if derpy wasnt there to distract tempest(notice how she doesn't send them until AFTER the party hat that was ironically in the place where a horn would be falls off.) Not just the part with rainbow and twilight, but the part where they're all running from the storm Kings troop.
SILVERQUILL MY OLD CHUM!!!!!!!!!! It was a pleasure and a privilege to see your reaction I must agree with you on several things but I also must disagree on several other things but it was mostly to be expected from you but well done you for sticking with your current OC this OC is basically a Brony icon now
huh, was wondering if we get an update model from you, now that we know how equestrian hippogrifs actually look like. oh well, maybe in the future. or maybe as a special? would not be the first time silver was transformed after all...
Bought the ticket, saw the movie, ordered all four comics, ordered The Stormy Road to Canterlot, and ordered the one that was basically Pinkie's diary. Oh, and I ordered the novel version of the movie and the soundtrack. The DVD's probably out by now and I need to get ahold of that, too, but still. This is 100% more than I did for any of the EQG material. :D
If anyone hasn't seen it yet totally recommend it I took my girls (even though I been a fan longer lol) they danced and certain cinemas give out certificates and encourage kids to get up dance and play with there pony figure lol all around great and work the 40 dollars at my cinema for food and movie
Also I do agree with you on tempest and novo as foils for twilight. As well as how it’s understandable why twilight did what she did to the sea ponies as well as her own friends. I love it when they make this stuff understandable. As soon as twilight told pinkie to show the sea ponies a good time, I was thinking, “what are you planning, twilight?”
Loved the fact that Luna was the only one to successfully fight of the Storm Guards. Supports a theory I've had for a while (haven't watched S7 yet, so it can very well have been disproven already): That Celestia is less focused on combative magic. She's powerful, without a doubt, but her magic is more focused on utility, instead of combat. 1000 years of peace will do that to you. That's why she has such a problem fighting off threats (when she actually fights, that is). Luna, on the other hand, is much more combat focused, which is why she has more to show up with in a purely combative scenario. (again, haven't watched S7 yet). In the comics, Celestia tackles the more bureaucratic stuff, things were minor, utilitarian magic would be useful, while Luna defends her subjects from the horrors of the Night. That theory also explains why Twilight didn't royally kick Tirek's ass. They seemed to be on about equal footing, yet Twilight had actual magic, while Tirek just had sheer power. But remember: Power does not translate to combative prowess. One can have all the power in the world, yet still be felled in a duel. Twilight was not only unused to her powers, but has also never been in a real pony y centaur battle before
Three of my sisters went to saw this movie with me and my brothers. My older sister got my bothers to see Friend Request while I was left with my two little sisters to see the movie. From what they told me, not one of them, not even my sister, lasted a quarter of the way in, so they joined us. I love MLP: FiM, my brothers kind of like it, and my sisters, old and young, don't like it at all, but *all* of them said that they *all* really liked My Little Pony: The Movie.
Semi-spoiler warning, but I'm mostly going to talk about things that WEREN'T in the movie. It took me a long time to figure out what my issue with the movie was. I watched it and I enjoyed it to be sure, but something was still nagging at the back of my mind. But I think I finally figured it out. I know too much. As a long time fan of the show, I know all the weapons, all the powers and all the characters at Equestria's disposal. And to see all of that just get completely and utterly removed to make way for this new plot point just bothers me at a certain level. So, if I may, I'd like to go through a few of those things that were left out in order to make the movie happen. Getting the most obvious out of the way here, Discord. We can all say for sure that if he had been there at full power, the movie would have been five minutes long. He even shows up at the end, watching the performance and in the end credits. But did they really need to leave him out to extend the movie? No, all they needed was a throw away line from Fluttershy about him not coming, or Tempest throwing one more ball and getting Discord first while they still didn't know what would happen. Leaving him out completely was just jarring for anyone who's a fan of the show. Second, again, is another character, Starlight Glimmer. We see her twice in the movie, both times hanging out with Trixie. The first time is before the villains even show up, so we know she's there. And as the season 6 finale has shown us, she's perfectly capable and willing to step up and fight back when everyone else is out of the picture. So where the hell was she? She's at least on par with Twilight in magical abilities and could at least have been trying something. Instead, she's left to a few background appearances and that's it. Third, Rainbow Powers. What the heck happened to that stuff? Was it a one time power that we'll never see again? Luna's dream made it seem like this was something that they might be able to do at will, but since that's a dream we have no idea if that's something that Luna knows or if it's only something she's imagined. I applaud the show for trying to stay away from the obvious Deux Ex Machina after season 4, but times like this, where it really would have been useful, make that a bit hollow. Fourth, and last for this at least, every other race out there. Why did Celestia think that the Hippogryphs were going to help? It's Celestia that specifically says they need their help, but we know that Equestia has alliances with griffons, yaks, changelings and freaking DRAGONS. Those are all known quantities who would be very likely to come to their aid, but they are all completely ignored in favor of a new race we've never heard about with dubious loyalties. And in fact, the hippogryphs do refuse to help. Remember, it was supposed to be Luna going to them, so how was she supposed to convince them after they said no? Okay, this huge wall of text leads to one thing. This movie was not made for people who watch and love the show. A few background elements are included for those people, but overall, nothing that cannot be understood without having seen the show is included. This, to me, weakens the entire movie to the point where I don't feel like I can really call it a good MLP:FIM movie. Is it a good movie on it's own? Yeah, I'll give it that, but as a part of the overall universe of generation 4 of My Little Pony, it falls short in too many areas.
And the worst thing is this movie is treated as canon. Jim MIller said the movie takes place between Season 7 and 8. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed this movie, but treating this as canon would be like treating all of the Friendship is Magic comics as canon. As long as nothing from this movie is brought up again in future seasons I will just pretend it's a separate continuity.
David Huntsinger isn't it obvious? They left her out for those of us who thought that if she was in the movie too much it would just focus on her and her mary sueness and because Jerry would have given this an instant dislike if they kept her in too long
Let's be honest. She's going to hate this movie anyway for not being nuanced enough or whatever buzzword she wants to use for it. I can probably get over it, but I just don't like the fact that Twilight was nerfed and none of the ponys' other allies could help just for this plot to work.
The Storm King is a Satyr, so is the rest of his army. And they had magic repelling shields to make invasion easy, with multiple airships to lock down pegasi. Also, if you can, please support the TOME Kickstarter.
0/10 silver quill did not have an idenity crisis because hippogriffs are canon
That’s a little harsh
Mr. X I was joking.
Alex Ramirez I get it that its a Joke by why would that happened to him at all?!
yugoxgc Mainly because the Hippogriffs in the show's canon (asuming the movie is canon) are much diffrent from Silver Quill's OC, I thought he was gonna act over the top that his species is different from the canon.
I still found it funny
XD
A moment of silence for Ryan
R.I.P Ryan 2017-2017
I won't be totally sure until something with official subtitles comes out, but I'm like 99% sure he said 'Brian'.
Good, because all Ryan ever sees... is prey.
pretty sure it's Brian, but still RIP
Remember Ryan/Brian!! For Equestria!!
HE WILL ALWAYS HOLD A SPECIAL PLACE IN OUR HEART!!!!!
"LIGHTING THEM ON FIRE, WHAT THE HAY?!"
Yep, pretty much my (and certainly others') reaction :P
Meh. I’ve seen Twilight used as a minigun back in changeling invasion
"I don't trust people who say they know how the world works, 'cause usually they only understand half the world."
Words of truth, or at the very least, highly probable accuracy, right there.
I know some people in my life that need to hear those exact words that's for sure.
More like a half truth
You know, Dr. Wolf has completed his origin story.... maybe Silver Quill can be next? I'd love to see it now that hippogriffs are canon.
He did? Eeeee!!!
"Kidnapped Twlight makes me worried."
Called it!
who could blame him?
Joshscorcher is gonna be pissed about the guard pony thing
my theory is they gave them the day off because twilight was confident nothing would go wrong
Warning! Major spoilers!
There are ponies in this movie.
If what you say is true, this might be the best movie of all time.
There were? Where?
I didn't really know the new characters until these dumb toy reviews were popping up in my feed everywhere. The toys are legit spoilers.
Yes, the whole seapony thing was quite unnecessary, storywise.
OH SHIT PLOT TWIST
How about that last jab at the Storm King that Songbird Serenade (Sia) got in before her song? "Let's all appreciate the fact we're all here in one piece"
What a burn!
Silver quill: "Woah Blade Runner! Yes I am going to see Blade Runner! WHOA Blade Runner! So excited for the Blade Runner! *whispers* one for my little pony please. WHOAH BLADE RUNNER!!"
Me: "Yeah can I get two adults for My Little Pony the Movie Please? What? You got a problem with that? Thank you."
Two types of fans right there.
GenesisOfTheWind three. I pre-ordered and picked my ticket up at a kiosk.
I wanted to do that to ease my brothers concerns about going in person to get them, but the website was down while I was trying to buy them.
Me:*looks to friends* hey *gives money to weirdest one in the group * please buy my ticket
Friend:ha alright no balls*goes to buy tickets and gets embarrassed *
Me:*proceeds to laugh ass off*
I'm a good friend I swear
Fortunately for myself the entire theatre was abandoned literally there was one person behind the counter and he was wearing a Brony cap so I openly asked for a ticket and he said and I quote "woah a fellow Brony huh" "yep" "what did you think of season 6?" "Yeah it was alright but season 7 is cool too" he gave me my ticket I went and watched with all empty rows of chairs and when I left the theatre about 50 people were standing in line to see blade runner so I saw that too and it was equally fantastic
And then you have the third type that have a little sibling to use as an excuse.
A griffin and a pony had a drunken one night and 12 months later you show up Hippogriff.
Spoiler
the fact that capper used spike as a flamethrower made me laugh so hard
I can only imagine the memes. XD
Yeah, my first thought was that Pyro needs to have a catsuit to honor that moment. Get it that Valve!
Capper is Puss In Boots. Saying it now.
Spike's a killer. :)
Literally. One of the minions fell over in the background and was engulfed by fire. Spike's kill count's now sitting at two.
I'm all for Silver keeping his OC, but maybe he could be the movie version of his OC for at least one video? Like an April Fools joke?
AeroRanger100 lightning bliss drew him as a sea pony hippogryph
admit it, the Cutie Mark is just a tattoo :P
THANK YOU TF FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT!!!!!!!
Lol no it's a quill pen duh.
"Bizarrogryph".
Yes, we knew that already. -:)
"Pony depravity knows no bounds."
Like Ewoks and their adorable little Stormtrooper drums!
*watches the Movie, and gets to the scene with Fluttershy listening to the 1 goon into submission* 0.o! *can't help but think*
"Wow, Fluttershy can give Dr. Wolf a run for his money. lol"
"Lighting them on fire! What the hay?!" and "Pony depravity knows no bounds" pretty well sums up the most surprising parts of the movie for me.
Twilight could have fixed Tempest's horn when she was holding the staff with the power to do so. She could have done it as a sign of friendship.
Nah, let's keep Tempest as is for toy reasons...I mean "you're perfect ask you are."
Does it really? Only the Storm King said the staff had the power to do it. He used her, so why should we take his word for it?.
Silver Quill the Bizzarogriff! A new species has been born, and I love it!
I watched the movie on Sunday in a theatre
when the storm king sorta died, a 6 year old said *What happened to him*
....
During that same scene we had a young kid ask 'was he evil?', and it sounded like he was asking if it ok that the Storm King had all but died. That kid is going places.
When I saw that, I started to wonder if it was better to die from that or still be alive (and conscious) in that condition.
When Discord got petrified he was still aware of everything around him. But I've no idea if a petrified being would feel pain... and feel no temptation to ask a Basilisk or Cockatrice help to find out.
Well, how do you think kids reacted when King Sombra blew to pieces?
No, seriously. I'm genuinely curious.
Ye.. The higher u are, the harder u fall
ah silver...you always manage to get a laugh out of me
yeah where are the guardponies??!!! i didnt notice that the guardpoines were missing o_O
But really, would we have noticed them if they _were_ there?
They are as useless as the Wonderbolts apparently
Celestia turned them into a statues because they were annoying and useless ha ha ha ha >:)
I would still be interested in seeing how Silver's character would have looked in the movie design for a hippogryph.
Waterpicker lightning bliss drew him as a sea pony hippogryph
it was great to see Chesse Sandwich in the MLP Movie
Bizzarogriff
John Driskell omg yes!!!!!
BIZZAROGRIFFS!!!
Sorry, I felt compelled to shout.
Not really sorry.
You're probably not surprised.
He am bizzarogriff. Here to destroy
Griffohip
I would've also accepted "Freakogriff"
I saw the movie too and when I realized there were hippogriffs in the movie, I IMMEDIATELY thought of you! Also Bizzarogriff just sounds too perfect for you, I love it XD You are pretty crazy after all lol
I should make time to watch that movie again because the theatres are done playing it.
Her name is and always will be DERPY, not Muffins. :)
I'm pretty sure she's cool with either. People can have more than one nickname.
Argamis (SilverComet) Plus a lot of people kept complaining on the name "Derpy" but yet it's still commonly used.
Well HASBRO have given some of their Transformers more then one name to work with, so it's no surprise the same goes for some of the Ponies.
Her name is Bright Eyes! How would you like to have a name that is considered either rude or an insult.
And Tempest doesn't get her horn fixed, which is kinda depressing
I was really confused by what was stopping anyone from getting it fixed.
But also a nice bit of consistency with how the show has shown that there are some thing magic just can't do when it comes to a pony's body (can't create a cutie mark, can't repair a mane, can't regrow a unicorn's horn).
Oh. I thought they could fix it with the staff that had all the alicorn magic in it.
Kk. That makes sense.
Silverquill has a much better design which reflects the chimerical nature of the species.
we wouldnt have a movie and he probably wasnt allowed in based on twilights uhh unique relation with him. that or he wanted to see how this whole would go down
I was expecting you to bounce around at the inclusion of hippogriffs. Guess I was wrong
Ah, I see.
Twilight said the ones in the movie were part eagle. Silver is part griffin. I think maybe he's more a subspecies of hippogryph.
Derpy needs a stain glass window now
We watched the new My Little Pony movie in theatres.
Can we at least get a couple hail Queen Novos in the future?
stephanie_barrett lightning bliss drew him as a sea pony hippogryph
Well you can always say those are natural born hippogriffs and Silver is a mix of pony and griffin. Loophoollllleeeee.
8:55 It should be noted that one of those mooks was burned to death. Seriously re watch that scene, one mook did not get back up and was engulfed in fire.
please never change your oc, hes too adorable, probably the cutest hippogryph ive seen
Yes I agree! Don't be a pirate please support the official release!
Sort of Spoilers below...
Interesting point about the short at the beginning, although I must admit I was only feeling, "what the heck is this? Can we please start the movie?" lol
I'm really dissapointed that the Royal Guard weren't even here at all.
Stay Strong and Pony On
BlueStar Out
I loved every single minute of this! Love you SilverQuill!!❤️ Also, OMAGERSH!!! 🤣🤣
This movie actually killed its evil villain. Kudos.
In the most child-friendly means possible, too.
Three months late, and I didn't notice there were no guard ponies.
Bizarrogriff. Headcannon accepted.
Gungelion i see u everywhere
I'm a changeling, I AM everywhere.
for wherever there is a good MLP review, I'll be there.
Wherever a brony is free to speak his mind, I'll be there.
Wherever grown men talk about a a franchise directed at children without it being creepy, I'll be there.
And wherever silver quill needs to have an object dropped on his head that seems to come out of nowhere, I'll be there.
There were definitely Storm King scenes that were cut, supposedly because they were too intense.
hopefully they have a director's cut when it comes out on blu ray.
My Little Pony The Movie: Extended Cut. I like the sound of that.
Thank you. I am glad that I wasn't the only one who thought Gloriousa as I watched this movie.
Is that a sister of Imperator Furiosa?
I might of spelled her name wrong but it is the villain from Legend of Everfree.
Oh, that Equestria Girls shite? Explains why i've never heard that name.
I'm just wondering what your Hippocampus form looks like.
You want to see his hippocampus?! Why do you want to look inside Silver Quill's brain?! We already know it is a scary place. D:
No, I mean the Sea Pony creatures, even though both are spelled the same way.
Griefing G0lem like this! - starbat.deviantart.com/art/Seapony-Silverquill-707970091
I would support this movie. If it was anywhere around here and wasn't dubbed in my own language, cause our voice actors haven't had a good voice since the early 2000's . I'll just pick up the dvd when it comes out.
I think silver quil totally nailed the movie.
You have made my week Silver, just like I knew you would.
*THIS RESPONSE CONTAINS A MILD SPOILER*
8:53 Well at least they were wearing armor (which may conduct heat, but it could've been worse).
Jacob M. Keene AKA Dr. Pepper King one fell down, stopped moving, and was consumed by dragon fire...
Huh, I didn't notice that.
I was expecting Spike to say "Oh shit what are we going to do now!" at some point.
This isn't Transformers. They're not going to put needless swears to bump up the film's rating.
I think he already knows there's no swearing allowed, and he means to say it in a more child-friendly way.
Another entertaining and enlightening video, as usual. I would also like to say thank you, since your the one who made me a fan of this show. It started with a reviewer I subscribe to reviewing Equestria Girls, that lead me to your video on Flash Sentry, and here I am. So, thanks, I guess.
so see here why shining armor isn't there ,,,, hes at home watching the baby(oh and watching the crystal kingdom yeah thats important too i guess)
I got floored when I saw Dave Polsky listed as the writer for the HanaZuki short.
Hippogrif became hippocampus
The movie premiered this friday here in sweden. The problem was, at my cinema at least. Thay only had the swedish dub. So I bought a ticket fore the top left corner of the theater, and then went home and downloaded the leaked copy. :-)
Sorry to burst your bubble about the "big sacrifice" but... Watch this clip in slow motion; th-cam.com/video/zmqx7RKc9lY/w-d-xo.html
Derpy comes in from the left side of the screen.
Actually, the orb would have hit Twilight and Rainbow Dash if Derpy had not blocked. So while she was not the one who got Twilight out of the way. She did save her.
Pony Stuff Watch the clip I linked to, use the settings to watch it in slow motion. Dash clearly sweeps her out of the way before Ditzy gets there.
"Without her, the only difference is Tempest knows she missed a lot sooner."
You're not wrong about what happened, but I don't think we can definitively say Derpy had no impact here.
Completely agreed with everything you said about Twilight. I liked how they handled her.
If anyone hasn't seen it yet totally recommend it I took my girls (even though I been a fan longer lol) they danced and certain cinemas give out certificates and encourage kids to get up dance and play with there pony figure lol all around great and work the 40 dollars at my cinema for food and movie
LIES! Guard ponies would've lasted 3 seconds.
Note: I haven't seen the movie yet.
Best animated movie of the year!
Stitch underground Not!!
Twilight was not only unused to her powers, but has also never been in a real pony y centaur battle before
WOO BLADE RUNNER! one for my little pony please YEAH BLADE RUNNER!
I'm sure every Brony can be shy at something like that for obvious reasons, so I don't blame anyone like that.
Saw it on Monday. Friends and I are going this Saturday. First Viewing for them, second for me.
Hanasuki Hanasuki Hanasuki Hanasuki Hanasuki Hanasuki
Kathryn Cassebeer I can't tell if the name is spelled Hanazuki, Hanasuki, or Hanatsuki
Orion Perez It's Hana Zuki
Magistone thx I got it now
Awesome video +Silver-Quil you rock.
Too late for me, Silver, I'd already caved into the critics and haters. I am never setting foot in a movie theater again for as long as I live.
William Crowe wat
David Huntsinger I think that sounds like a you problem
And the worst thing is this movie is treated as canon. Jim MIller said the movie takes place between Season 7 and 8. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed this movie, but treating this as canon would be like treating all of the Friendship is Magic comics as canon. As long as nothing from this movie is brought up again in future seasons I will just pretend it's a separate continuity.
thebeav they said some of them will show up periodically through Season 8
David Huntsinger isn't it obvious? They left her out for those of us who thought that if she was in the movie too much it would just focus on her and her mary sueness and because Jerry would have given this an instant dislike if they kept her in too long
Let's be honest. She's going to hate this movie anyway for not being nuanced enough or whatever buzzword she wants to use for it. I can probably get over it, but I just don't like the fact that Twilight was nerfed and none of the ponys' other allies could help just for this plot to work.
Thanks for the info! I hope to catch it, Bladerunner did come first for me though.
Ok but are you gonna at least make it so you can change into a seapony since that was a thing in the movie?
This is my favorite animated movie of all time.
You really should watch Hanazuki. You might take a shine to it.
"Hello sea ponies! Please do not sing shoo-be-do-shoo-shoo-be-do."
Hungry Hungry Hippos.
The Storm King is a Satyr, so is the rest of his army. And they had magic repelling shields to make invasion easy, with multiple airships to lock down pegasi. Also, if you can, please support the TOME Kickstarter.
