I imagine I'll get a few weird looks when I walk into the theater without an accompanying child, and I'll likely get much more of a kick out of subtle character moments than any of the parents, but at the end of the day, I know I went in supporting a show I've grown to love over many years. And I really can't do that nearly as much if I stay at home waiting until I can watch the film all on my own. Here's looking forward to seeing a few fellow fans in the seats along with me :)
I feel the same way dr. I am a 16 years old, and I have not told anyone besides my mom and dad about me liking mlp. I am a little afraid that someone from my school will see me walk in, and I will get picked on because of it. but I am still going to go because I have waited so long for this movie.
Don't you worry, Doc; though we live in different parts of the country. I'll be with you in spirit, when the movie comes out in my area. The ironic thing is I half expected my mother to give me a weird look (if not laugh at me,) when she learned I wanted to see it. But for 31, almost 32 years (come December.) She understands my interests and believes so long as I'm not hurting anyone, it's okay. Which is a phrase those outside the fandom should hear
All I know is that almost all girls love horses. They just love them for some reason. Almost every single one dreams of having a horse at one point in their life. It's just the kind of animal that appeals to them, so it makes sense to me why horses are associated with females.
I say it's the industrial revolution. As soon as cars became mainstream, horses went from being a homesteading necessity to a high-class luxury. In fact, the Gen 1 Ford Mustang was marketed as being "so affordable a Secretary could buy it." IE, it's a Woman's car. Ironically, a guy with the most feminine name, Caroll Shelby, was able to market it as a sports car and now it's a real hit with the crowd. Yet today the equine industry is as strong as the gaming industry, and Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and Battlefield 1 uphold the idea of horses as manly. Still, I guess it helped that my sister introduced me to the idea of "Chick stuff can still be cool" and when my friend introduced me to the fandom I was just, "I wish I had the hub...DAMN YOU DIRECT TV!"
I have no clue either, but it is a fact that 3 out of 5 of the females in my house love horses and 0 out of 4 of the males don't care. And believe me, I hadn't run into the issue of horses being girly before.
Free thought: Pink for girls and blue for boys is a fairly recent thing, starting post WWI and not really cemented in the US till the 1980's. An "Action Figure" is nothing more than a doll with "boy friendly" themes. Every grown up was once a kid. So what does what you like matter? Bonus thought: Would a Rainbow Dash toy based on one of the alternate "The Cutie Re-Mark" histories be an action figure? Warfighter: check, Cool uniform: check, scars and robot parts: depends on which history, weapons: well no, but would fit....
Yep, Optimius Prime's death scared a lot of children, causing them break out into tears. The TV series after the movie....killed him off two more times.
Actually, just one more time, and then they brought him back for good. Over in Japan though, they continued G1 for a few more years and killed off Optimus again.
While this may be the First Time Optimus was killed off, it certainly wasn't the Only Time.... And yet we see him come back in Greater Forms, take Optimus in TFPrime for Example.
And thus startet the trend of Optimus dying up to the Point where we realy dont care anymore. Same with Megatron. They kinda even made fun of that in the IDW Comics where Optimus and Megatron are just...sitting down and talk about there former encounters and how often they acualley should have killed each other but still managed to come back. it was acualley quite a good scene.
Well said silver as a woman I have to agree on the fact on the gender separation and stereotypes to this day I will mitt I am still a Power Rangers fan as a kid from the 90s I know I had to keep my love for Power Rangers a secret because well they thought the girls would like Barbies bryers and all sorts of stuff. Yeah looking back now and even with the audience who else sees a young woman even today still liking a show for young men. From watching Power Rangers to playing assassins creed and hard-core video games aimed to men, now they see it as a way for young girls to learn how to be strong and independent. A.k.a. the tomboy syndrome. I wonder though if my little pony and even bronies in general in the future if the show would teach young men even grown men at times how to keep a balance of being both strong and yet gentle at the same time. I remember when talking to my father about the subject matter and along with other male figures in my life and their only regret is that no one taught them how to be both tough and gentle. And from what I've seen my little pony has helped immensely in that perfect balance. Thanks a million for posting this silver!
DarkhorseKC thank you for pointing out that a person can like something..because they like something I like chocolate chip cookies and black powder revolvers. Throwing knives and tapioca pudding. Hot chocolate when you're on sentry and the sleet is making icicles on your helmet. Rain on a tent.
I dunno. I was a kid in the '90s and while a lot of shows aimed directly at girls did focus on the more stereotypical girly stuff, there was also a lot of focus devoted to girls playing sports and similar 'boyish' activities. It's just gotten a lot more so since then. Heck, I've run into shows and even people that seem to think that if a girl *wants* to wear dresses and play with dolls there must be something wrong with her. Yet, while we're encouraging girls to be 'more like boys,' when boys show an interest in something aimed at girls we mock them. It really is like there's something inherently shameful about traditional female interests. This from the same culture that also shames boys for *being* boys, that masculinity is somehow *wrong*. It's kind of a lose-lose situation. I hope that someday we'll be able to strike a balance.
Fun fact: the Transformers animated movie was made by Toei Animation (yep the same guys of DBZ) thats why its looks like anime same with the 80s MLP movie "rescue from midnight castle" Both of these hasbro shows was my childhood i was see it in Cartoon Network in they days of glory
This reminds me of when I was younger in grade school: I told some of my friends that my favorite show at the time was Dragonball Z and they all looked at me and said, "But that's a show for boys and you're a girl, why do you like it?". At the time I was confused because I was wondering what me being a girl had to do with liking a cartoon, especially one that I've watched since I was six years old but as I grew older I understood: just because I'm a girl people automatically assumed I only watched cartoons made for girls. Actually no, as a child, I actually didn't like girly cartoons which is why I never watched Sailor Moon; I like Dragonball Z because of the epic fight scenes and the villains and the "male" heroes fighting to save the earth. I mean did start watching MLP FIM when I was like fourteen or fifteen but that's only because it was more like the cartoons I used to watch as opposed to me watching it simply because I'm a girl and it's a girl's show. Even now, people wonder why I watch cartoons if I'm an adult and to them I say, "Even if I'm twenty one, I will always love MLP, Adventure Time, Regular Show, Dragonball Z, Yugioh and every other cartoon and anime I watch simply because of the joy and happiness they bring me and because they allow me to temporarily escape the cruel reality of the real world. And besides, if my forty year old mother still likes to watch the Smurfs and classic Tom and Jerry, then I'm gonna keep watching My Little Pony because it makes me happy!"
As a 31 year old guy... Hey! Don't be hating on Sailer Moon! :P I liked that one growing up. XD We all have our tastes though. Just always watch whatever you like, not what you are expected. ^^
Cartoons don't just help you escape from a cruel reality; they help you understand and learn how to live in that reality. Like about friendship, for example. I'm not a fan of MLP, but I can respect any cartoon that does that for any child or adult :) Kudos to you!
I still watch cartoons and I'm 34. Heck, I've been watching the new Ducktales because I used to watch the original when I was a kid. And I even watch MLP on Netflix.
Sailor Moon was a good show, but personally I hated the dubbed versions of it. Sooner or later I want to watch the original subbed/uncut/unedited versions. And to be honest, sometimes Sailor Moon (the character) really annoyed me. I do however love Sailor Mercury.
I also think it's dumb to say that one thing "should" be "manly" and the other "girly." As example of why these rules shouldn't rule us. Permit me to reference The Loud House episode "Roughin' It." In it; Lincoln Loud, the star of the show, feared he was losing his manliness after living with 10 sisters for so long. (yes, you heard me; the family has TEN daughters!) The reason for this fear, Lincoln had begun to love a lot of "girly" stuff he enjoyed doing with his sisters. Whether it be getting a mud mask with his eldest sister, Lori. Learning braiding skills from Luna, a rocker sister of his, to make frills for his leather jacket or simply watching a romantically themed game show with all of them (plus his dad.) To "save himself," he goes camping with his best friend. As you can imagine, it does NOT pan out well. In time, things start changing for the better. But only after Lincoln begins using skills he learned from his sisters. Skills that would be seen as "girly" by today's misogynistic standards. In the end, Lincoln learns that not only did the things he learn from his sisters prove useful. But worrying about what's "manly" or "girly" is just...really dumb. So, to all the men out there; go and watch the MLP movie without shame! Because if we're mature enough to admit we enjoy something, who cares what society thinks
You make an excellent point! My reasoning for why the world is like this would boil down to biology and socialogy. Most males like this and most females like this, that's biology. However, being one of those few that go against the mold is alien, and risky. Why be different if what works works? Oh well, I'm probably overthinking stuff again.
My philosophy is if you enjoy something and are mature enough to admit it, have at it. If others mock you for the things you love. Obviously, they haven't grown into their big boy/girl pants yet
Looking at this reminds me of an a connection between Transformers then and MLP that I hadn't realized until now. I was never really a fan of the original Transformer series. I found it basic and predictable. That is until the updated series showed up continuing after the movie. I loved that they had story arcs and that not everything was tied up neat and tidy. The best part was the introduction of Rodimus Prime. He had leadership thrust upon him, and he often second guessed himself. In short he was imperfect and that made him such a compelling character. He is, and always will be my favourite Transformer, in much the same way Starlight Glimmer is now my favourite pony for the same reasons...
True words of honor and respect silver quill. still a long time ago durings the 1980s, back then transformers and MLP were once separate rivals that belong to the sides of males and females, but as time went by as the shows evolved in the present they have both become similar partners because even though the two are different by looks but they share things in common, true that transformers did use magic for their battles and mlp didn't use technology or robotics to fight their battles, but what makes these two similar is not only the way they understand harmony but also they bring others together no matter how different they are, its a way to show that if others try something new thats equal to another thing, then it will always be a way to understand others for who they are. MLP and transformers have now become two of the best hasbro shows of all time and know that they will always be. /)
No way man, in the comic world they've done 2 Batman/TMNT crossover comics, and heck they've even done a Justice League/Power Rangers crossover. They're all brilliant so Transformers helping ponies to fight back against disharmony mixed with Megatron using non-lethal friendship based weaponry or you know pies and transformers sized party cannons would be epic.
Hey Silver, long time fan! Just wanted to say that I was lucky enough to watch this film last weekend at a screening, and I decided to take my mom. She was embarrassed to be with me, as a grown adult, and she started to make fun of the bronies a bit. I had wanted to tell her that she was starting to embarrass me! Alas, I did not, but we still watched the film anyway. She rather enjoyed it, and I did as well! From a brony perspective, it had everything you'd want from a My Little Pony theatre outing (aside from EQ coming to theatres.. *cough cough*). This was the true My Little Pony movie we wanted. From a film critic perspective, don't expect groundbreaking territory. It's all been done before, but still fun. Thanks for listening, and keep up the great work!
To experience my childhood show used to explain about what I watch now is so rewarding. Thank you for making this and I hope the movie will be quite enjoyable.
Thank you for your commentary here Silver! I fully intend to see this film in a nearby cinema (regardless of how much of it that has been spoiled for me already). It's not just because I hope this movie to call the world to once again reassess its views on bronies and "what makes a man", but because I want this to be a new chapter for the franchise. If this movie succeeds, not only will the universe open up more, but Hasbro will likely increase its investment in ponies. If the film falls at all short, some unknown opportunities that might have been may never come to pass. I want this film to eventually spawn sequels, a whole other media arena with which to tell stories and raise stakes in ways not possible with the core show. A good box office turnout for this film will likely translate into a higher budget and greater resources and willingness to take risks for the sequels.
Once again fabulous video Silver. Every time you knock it out of the park. I love having that little icon come up on my phone that says you've posted a video. (Though this isn't a pressure thing, just saying I like it. :) ) Please think of us poor bronies in Spain who get the film LAST in DECEMBER! Because REASONS! So excuse me if I don't watch your review of the movie if it comes out before December 8th. If I can I'll watch it in the cinema. Though I'd prefer to hear it in V.O. And seeing as MLP isn't a huge thing over here I may be disappointed. Though I hear whispers that the US DVD of MLP will come out before xmas so perhaps it's time to put my R1 DVD player to good use and buy from .com for a change.
You think Optimius messed with a Generation of kids try, Ash Ketchum, Celebi, Beast, Sora (From Kingdom Hearts) Wizardmon Angemon, Wormon Guilmon Jeri Leomon, Mufasa, Bambi's mom. Bunny Courage the Cowardly Dog Neverending Story Ash-Greninja Charizard, Latios and Goofy!
The Transformers 86' film has and will always be my favorite animated movie of all time. I can never get tired enjoying it time after time. I still remember playing the VHS tape from beginning to end, only to rewind and play it over again. Although the Equestria Girls world premiere was the first MLP I experienced on the big screen, the upcoming MLP film will hopefully bring something new to the theater.
I'm gonna be watching the MLP movie in theatres, so that way it doesn't suffer the same fate as the PowerPuff Girls movie. Though it will be nervous, cause there aren't many MLP fans around me.
WeegeeSlayer. It doesn’t matter if there are many MLP fans around you or not. View the movie how you want to view it. If people judge you, it’s because they’re jealous of you. 😽😽😽 Have fun at the movie. I hope you meet some new people who love the show just as much as you.
Benicthehedgehog. Same concept. Go see it. Enjoy it. And if people judge or are haters, don’t listen to them. You are you. Who knows!!! You might meet new people who ARE in your area who love the show!!!
I'm gonna see it in a theatre. However as these kids movie only seem to get one showing and no cinemas are posting viewing times for it here in the UK, getting to a showing's proving difficult. Seriously, when's the movie being released in the UK?!
Got a big group of fellow Bronies seeing this on Sunday. Can't wait to see their reactions. Just finished watching it with a good friend just a few hours ago and I won't dare spoil the movie but I will say this. It left a smile on my face and reminded me of exactly why I love this show so much.
I watched the movie yesterday. It was a "Brony-Special"-Viewing (maybe the only way to watch it in English in theatre) so I doubt there were many non-Bronies besides me. 4 days ago there was also a "Happy Family"-Viewing in german where parents paid less when coming with a child. But despite that some didn't find the movie that good, everyone seemed to enjoy it. And as you could tell from the numbers of movieposters the people walked out of the cinema, nobody was ashamed or seemed to feel uneasy being there. Well, it was just a nice experience and I'd recommend to watch it. If you want to wear a Brony-themed shirt, you can do it and maybe some people will be a bit confused, but most people wont think into it too much. Most people go to the cinema to enjoy things, what genre what-so-ever. Have a nice viewing, Silver :)
I don't mean for this to sound like a bad thing, but was I the only one who also started thinking about the first Pokemon while listening to various point Silver made?
Was an early screening for it all over my country on the 1st of October, so, yeah, I watched it then. To give a spoiler free opinion of it, nothing groundbreaking, don't think it has the same kind of weight to it as the Transformers movie back in the day, but I personally enjoy the MLP movie more. It is a very enjoyable journey and I do believe it does well in standing on its own, where people don't have to know the series before going in to see it, though knowing the series and the characters is a bonus. Most of all, the movie has a good charm in my eyes, and I can enjoy most things as long as it has a charm to it that I fall for. So, highly enjoyed this one.
When you review the movie (when that may or may not happen) I wanna see what the reaction will be at the one part that involve the "kingdom of the swimming avians"
So silver quill how's your day so far?Would you review reboots that are happening and would you be sad once voice retires after the mlp movie goes to the dvd?
Hey Silver, since we're talking about nostalgic movies, I have to ask you something. Which of these Saturday morning cartoons do you think has the best movie: The Transformers, GI Joe, My Little Pony, or Alvin and the Chipmunks? And by movie, I don't mean current remakes. I mean classic 80s cartoon movies.
Easily, it was Transformers. Even WatchMojo's "Top 10 Movies Based on Toys" recognizes it as #3, behind The LEGO Movie (#2) and the Toy Story franchise (#1). By that list, Transformers was THE best toy movie at the time (before Toy Story 1) and the best movie based on a specific toy brand (before LEGO). I'd say the MLP movie would either be ranked alongside Transformers (1986) or at least claim the #4 spot behind it since it's still too early to judge the overall impact My Little Pony: The Movie (2017) will eventually have yet. As for the 1986 MLP movie (ugh), WatchMojo places that as #8 worst film based on toys.
I had to explain to a friend/co-worker about the death scenes in the 86 movie and show a clip, understandably she did not grasp the full concept because she did not grow up with the original characters and got to form a viewer attachment to them like those who saw the original series.
I think the big strength of MLP is it's potential. The mane 6 are very realistic characters yet that also makes them incredibly flexible. The world itself is believable yet still fantastic and the writing is strong enough to inspire people. The world and characters can be adapted to fit anything. From staying very close to the material like Past Sins to going in a completely different direction like in Fallout Equestria. Ponies can be porn, gore, war, tragedy, comedy, adventure, slice-of-life, fetish and whatever a brony can think of. The world itself is believable enough that people can see it as real and therefore allow it to have complex politics and social issues.
You didn't know about Lisa Frank? Man, there wasn't a girl (and I think even a boy or two) in my elementary school that didn't have at least one of those retina burning folders. Oh snap! Clip from The Shipping Game. Throw back! Great video! After having seen the movie (twice because I'm trash) I don't know if it'll turn too many new heads but it was certainly a hoot for fans regardless of whether you're holding a "doll" or an "action figure"!
I actually managed to find a leaked version of the movie in good quality and I have to say, it was a pretty impressive little flick! I'll try to keep spoilers to a minimum here: The story flows pretty nicely from setting to setting, though in a few places the character moments are a bit fast (such as one with Celaeno and the sky pirates, though in that moment it took place during a song number, so I'll forgive it for speeding things up a bit). It definitely had a solid rising action, climactic scene was very impressive, and a nice bit of falling action to calm down from the climax, a couple nice little character arcs for the new characters (who were all very well voiced by their celebrity VAs), impressive and intense action scenes, wonderful musical numbers (especially the opening number and the vilain song). The animation takes a bit of getting used to, mainly due to the occasional CGI backgrounds mixing with the 2D character animation, but its very fluid and pretty and colourful (but not too much so), so I like it. It's not quite Disney levels but it's leagues above the show or any other MLP animation past or present. The voice-acting from the main cast is absolutely spectacular, even better in some places than on the show (Particular props to Andrea Libman and Tara Strong's performances), and there are some pretty powerful emotional moments too that are really well animated, voiced and edited (the kinds where the music just stops dead and lets you take in the silent gravity of the situation). It also kept fandom and show in-jokes to a pleasant minimum, usually just a handful of fan-favourite cameos (though one such joke may confuse some newcomers, since they make a few sly wink nods towards Discord, yet he never appears or is mentioned in the movie). The jokes were also pretty funny, with only one serious groaner (Then again it was a pun, so I guess they're supposed to be groaners anyway, so... mission accomplished?). I can only think of 2 major flaws: 1 is that the editing is sometimes a little slow, particularly with fade transitions which can feel a bit awkward here and there. The other is sadly with the Mane 6 themselves. Twilight and Rainbow are well written and do alot for the story, but the others kinda feel a bit along-for-the-ride. They'll contribute here and there and have some great moments, but Pinkie and Rarity do feel a bit typecasted respectively as the hyper one and the posh one. It's not horribly so but their characters don't feel quite as nuanced and layered as on the show. And as for Fluttershy and Applejack, they don't really do much other than help along the way, but they don't really get any big individual character moments the same way the others do. They just feel a bit 'and the rest' if you know what I mean. So in short, is it perfect? Not quite unfortunately. It has a few flaws here and there that might hurt the experience for some people, but the overall product I think was very impressive, and I'll definitely be paying to see it in theatres too. A solid 8/10 from me, and I can honestly see this getting pretty decent reviews from the critics too. Maybe not spectacular reviews, but I'm predicting solid 3.5/4 stars from most critics.
Great analysis as always. I know you get this alot but have your gotten the chance to see transformers Prime yet? I know it's nothing to the level of MLP but it premiered on the same channel as MLP and was one of the channels most hyped shows. Just a question.
The thing that shocked me most about *Transformers the Movie* (besides Optimus Prime's death) is the swearing. Hearing Spike say "Oh sh@t" must've been one of the reasons it got a PG rating.
Dude...no. The MLP movie is rated PG for some scary/thrilling moments that may startle younger viewers. "Mild Action" is the sole reason given by the MPAA for its PG rating.
Hey Silver! So, what are your thoughts about My Hero Academia now? I remember when you mentioned it a while back, so I wanted to know what you think of it now that is has gained such a huge following.
I sadly never got to see TF:TM in theaters when it originally came out, luckily this year it was re-released in theaters and though I have seen the movie hundreds of times I got to experience a little of what those who first saw it in theaters got to experience.
Silver Quill: subtle character analysis and interactions with the outside world. Dr. Wolf: value analytics that define the message behind the writing. Josh Scorcher: plot analytics that illustrate his view on the consistency and appeal of an episode. Me/Caramel Chord: timeline analytics as well as aspects of pony culture, published theories coming soon.
I am so glad that in Berlin and other places in Germany they set up Brony previews, showing the movie on english for Bronies and Pegasisters. It was awesome. And great to see that "we" got our own exclusive prewiew (saw it on october 1st ;p) !!!
the fact that this was produced by Lionsgate, and I learned that it also is making a movie version of wonder, I think this may become on of my favorite movie companies. It also produced the Hunger Games trilogy and one of the Twilight movies. note: Daveed Diggs is going to be in Wonder, so that's why I think it will be a good movie. (he played Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in Hamilton)
Me and my friends planned on seeing it on Wednesday after it premiered in theaters together because our schedules keep us busy. I can imagine that we might not see any other fans in theater because they probably went when it premiered but we planned on enjoying ourselves anyways because we will be together watching it. I would rather enjoy something like this together with my friends than not see it alone or never at all.
I tell people that the #1 reason why I love this show is that they don't treat their target audience, young girls, like idiots. They aren't afraid to use big words, and they aren't afraid to approach difficult subjects, with death being the only exception. (yes I know Tank hibernating was a death allegory. I don't count it as discussing death.) When I was a child, I remember loving shows that didn't treat my like an idiot. Animaniacs was my all-time favorite cartoon because they weren't afraid of the "adult" jokes. Some I understood, some I didn't. But that was what made it enjoyable. At its core, it wanted kids to enjoy learning its silly lessons. And while MLP:FIM might get incredibly sappy, they can get incredibly silly as well. And that's why I love it.
If they had taken the story for the original transformers movie and transplanted it into MLP it would've been in season three Celestia dies, The big threat probably Teric would show up and Twilight would become an alicorn to combat the threat. Two seasons later and they would resurrect Celestia.
Wheeljack2k don't forget. After the Transformers movie was the G.I. Joe movie and because of the backlash that happened to Optimus prime they put the main character of G.I. Joe in a coma instead of killing them.
I wonder if there will be something shocking like Optimus in the movie. It probably would't be the same thing, but something big and status quo shaking. Given that spoilers have come out about the storyline from what Silver was saying and I haven't heard muffled rage or excitement, probably not. It could just be that people are being very good about spoilers this time, I'm dodging them like Neo or somewhere in the middle.
Amen. I'm planning to go there and enjoy myself. And I do hope that more people find the entire franchise appealing as a result. Especially the parents of young children. There is one song I haven't avoided. And LORD is it inspiring.
I hope you can takk more about Transformeres. It's fun that you talk about something Else then just mlp. Btw love this video and i think you have a good poit and concluson. Sorry i am not good in English so you know. I am from Norway but yeah luv you and you're vidios ❤
I have yet to see it, and I hope it's good. It's the first theatrical release since Equestria Girls 1. My biggest fear is that the celebrity voices (most of which I don't even know) would overshadow what makes the series great. I've heard that's not the case, but I still have some doubts.
I didn't really grow up seeing the Transformers movie as my childhood (That was Beast Wars for me), but I can imagine it will be a turning point for me as an adult the same way if I went to see the Transformers movie back then, but even moreso. It's been a very difficult process for me to admit to being a Brony, which is why I've been a bit late to being a voice in the fandom. But now, I'm made a WHOLE lot of progress now, and I'm not going to let others judgement stop me from enjoying what I love. Hope to see some fellow fans in the theatre as well! :3
I had to admit The part about how people can judge how manly you are it’s ridiculous. You are only a man when you are willing to do it. Having take me for example I started watching the series at season 3 and ended up watching every episode I can because I wanted to know how it turned out In the end. Like Transformers prime, regular show, samurai Jack and more. When I commented on a clip from rainbow-rock, I do know that my comment was going to be shared across Google+ and one of my friends that I’ve known in person found out... But he didn’t care (about me being a secret ceber brony), he just thought the last part was funny. The point is he knows me well enough that a series like mlp doesn’t change any about me. I also kind of figured what’s going to happen in the movie but for what I know... I don’t know what’s going to happen in anything because the movie still has the element of surprise and there’s no telling what could happen. Also I really liked your image with G1 Optimus prime holding MLP FIm twilight sparkle in his hands. It reminds me of a fan art I saw with TFP Optimus Prime is fighting along side with Princess Celestea against an army of vehicons and evil changelings... So it even made a video with that pictures, even if it’s just a 1 minute video where you can see the picture and here the characters in action it was well played... Here’s the link if you want to look at yourself, Rising Legend out!!! th-cam.com/video/MrvB1aNHrm0/w-d-xo.html
I'm kind of nervous about seeing the movie, mostly because I don't have an accompanying child, nor anybody to see it with. Hopefully, I'll find someone at the theater just as nervous as me. On another note, Silver Quill is quite right about the limited number of reviews of the Transformers movie, I was digging through microfilm of old newspapers to try and find some when he asked about them on Twitter. Couldn't find a thing.
Hippogriffs. Like the handsome Bronyanalist up top. There're some in this movie. Along with an anthropomorphic cat and a bunch of anthropomorphic parrots, for some reason, and whatever the weasel/hyena-like characters are. Y'know, one reason I always liked FiM was because they didn't tend to anthropomorphize the animal characters too far. But now that's what they're doing. This isn't a spoiler because these images are all over the promotional material. Stylistically the character designs are significantly rounder than in the show. It's not a bad thing, just different.
Well said, Silverquill. What you described is the basic definition of Toxic Masculinity, and one thing that I as a feminist seek to undo. Our culture devalues femininity through set gender roles and expectations, expecting men to strive and conform to the stereotypical ideal of masculinity. Masculinity and Femininity should not need to be ranked; rather, they are part of the same spectrum of human emotions and expression which all have their uses. This is what people mean when we say that gender is a social construct; what is defined as "masculine" and "feminine" isn't biologically set in stone. Rather, it's something that our culture describes and attributes value to. What it means to be a "Man", "Woman" or "Gender non-binary" person is no longer as set in stone as we expect it to be. So I see acknowledging that masculine people expressing themselves through feminine coded media as constructive rather than degenerating as the first step towards creating a more socially equal society.
Both shows did change throughout the generations. I still remember what went on when the Autobots faced Decepticons throughout the series. We should really understand the events that took place in Cybertron that lead to the events that happened on Earth. MLP may show different plots. We need to know where the alicorns came from, the origin of Discord, the complete history of Equestria and how cutie marks are made. I still predict that the Mane six, Spike, CMC and Starlight might play their biggest role in the future. I will always experience everything from planet Cybertron and Equestria.
So, Silver Quill, how did you like the mlp movie? Do you plan to work the land of the hippogryphs into your oc's back story? Can't wait to hear about your pov on this ;D
i just saw the movie, and i enjoyed it well enough. but out of everything i saw, what amazed me most was that front-row-center, sat a family of a father and his two sons. at the time, it felt like your mentioned barriers fell apart, at least for that movie.
Sadly, there isn't a theater within an hour of me that will play it and I work 6 day weeks so driving that far out on a day off is out of the question. : / Wait for the DVD release, I guess.
I am a newer Transformers nerd. So I have my opinions. But what fan doesn't? I prefer the Decepticons over the Autobots but I do like certain Autobots. Starscream will forever be someone who, to me, deserves someone better than Megatron. G1 introduced us to Skyfire but I never grew up with G1, so I will only have the newer shows instead of the older ones. But that is me. It isn't you. You are who you are. I am who I am. Thank you for reading and have a good day/afternoon/evening.
I haven't seen the movie yet but I've seen trailers. I'm really hyped about Tempest. Even if her evil plan turns out to be half-baked, I'm excited to see her character in action. I want Tempest to beat me up!!!
Watched the movie on Wednesday and I'll be going again on Sunday (sadly English showings are few and far between here in Germany). I think you'll enjoy it :>
I'm thinking about wearing my Silver Quill when I go see the MLP movie this Saturday. I wonder how many people will see my shirt and say, "I know who that is." I imagine not many, considering that I live in a small area.
I think if there's one thing the MLP movie will have over the 86 TF movie when it comes to critics and stuff it's that unlike the 86 TF movie and even the G1 series the MLP writing stare able to make the characters have more depth and the storylines interesting if a bit unoriginal whereas the 86 TF movie as fun as it is was kind of a product of it's time. I may be wrong but still we'll see when the MLP movie hits this weekend.
TO me the appeal of MLP and on some level EQG wasn't just the writing or interesting characters, it's the actual lessons the show tackles, and I'll be the first to admit they don't always convey the point their trying to get across in the best way many of the lessons they teach can actually be applied to real life. One of my favorite examples is the Rainbow Rocks movie, the girls let minor annoyances and nuances affect their friendship to the point where they're at each other's throats. You learn that even minor problems among friends especially in a group need to be dealt with immediately or those problems will grow until they cause cracks within the core of the group.
One can only imagine Silver's reaction when he finds out the Macguffin of this movie is a quest to find the lost kingdom of the Hippogryphs. Not only is his species canon, but they're a semi Deus Ex Machina in terms of importance. Congrats Silver, your people have arrived. :P
Here's something to chew on to those who call my little pony a girl's show and transformers as a boy show. As someone who likes she/her pronouns. I fell in lo e with Transformers and didn't join MLP until one of my friends who did he/him pronouns introduced it to me. Transformers g1 was how I got introduced to hasbro and it brought me great joy that silver quill did these two shows. Both gave nostalgia and gave me both good memories and bad moments that aren't so bad anymore. Silver-quill became one of my favorites because of his humor and his style. I actually do want him to meet new series and I enjoy him as an analyst. He was actually a reason I am one today. So thank you Silver-quill. For all the good memories that are sure to come forth now and as well as the past. ~Dove
Dear silver I have to say that I am also looking forward to this move. But also have to say this that mlp has brought back something that media is sorely lacking these days. That is the moral or lesson like 80s and 90s cartoons had, and if it wasn't for a friend insisting I had to check out mlp, and the nostalgia feel it gave them, I would have never became a fan and still criticize people how are. But, that is my opinion on what has helped the show it helps bring out the child in older people with its 90's feel and keeps us with its ever expanding story, character list, and development give us just enough to look for more. And I am wondering if others agree with me so let me now
I wish I could go see this movie. I live on the South Coast of Britain and I really want to see this movie however the nearest cinema that I could find that shows the movie is in Scotland. I, unfortunately, don't have the money to make a trip up to Scotland and I don't see doing a day trip up to Scotland JUST to see one movie worth my time. Now for the sake of argument let's say that I have the money, I know that Scotland has a lot of history that I can go explore and would most likely enjoy learning about. The problem is that I would only be interested in the movie so learning about the history of Scotland would not be fulfilling at all and would, if the movie turned out to be bad, a sour experience for me making me to not want to go back there unless I had a reason or was dragged there.
DRWolf001 Amen Doc.
doctorwolf001 do know a teacnect to help me keep my anger in check
I'm trying to drag my partner but they won't go. I think I'll go solo too.
But for 31, almost 32 years (come December.)
She understands my interests and believes so long as I'm not hurting anyone, it's okay.
Which is a phrase those outside the fandom should hear
Never understood horses being a female thing. What did the cowboys and knights ride into battle? Horses.
Optimus dies so often, it's like he took lessons from the Doctor. Or Deadpool
Yea I understand that-
Fun fact: the Transformers animated movie was made by Toei Animation (yep the same guys of DBZ) thats why its looks like anime same with the 80s MLP movie "rescue from midnight castle"
Both of these hasbro shows was my childhood i was see it in Cartoon Network in they days of glory
XD
We all have our tastes though.
Denise Sierra Well said. Very well said.
I also think it's dumb to say that one thing "should" be "manly" and the other "girly." As example of why these rules shouldn't rule us. Permit me to reference The Loud House episode "Roughin' It."
In it; Lincoln Loud, the star of the show, feared he was losing his manliness after living with 10 sisters for so long. (yes, you heard me; the family has TEN daughters!)
The reason for this fear, Lincoln had begun to love a lot of "girly" stuff he enjoyed doing with his sisters. Whether it be getting a mud mask with his eldest sister, Lori. Learning braiding skills from Luna, a rocker sister of his, to make frills for his leather jacket or simply watching a romantically themed game show with all of them (plus his dad.)
To "save himself," he goes camping with his best friend.
That is one of my favorite Loud House episodes.
My philosophy is if you enjoy something and are mature enough to admit it, have at it.
If others mock you for the things you love. Obviously, they haven't grown into their big boy/girl pants yet
I especially loved how into the show Lincoln was. Remember this line?
"Oh, Blaine; PLEASE tell me you're not wearing clogs"
sadlobster1 10 daughters?
And I thought Tevia had it rough with 5...
Really? I've been getting the MLP movie ad on every video I've been watching today *except* for this one? Talk about irony.
Just from the thumbnail alone, is it wrong that I REALLY want to see a Transformers/Friendship Is Magic crossover?
No way man, in the comic world they've done 2 Batman/TMNT crossover comics, and heck they've even done a Justice League/Power Rangers crossover. They're all brilliant so Transformers helping ponies to fight back against disharmony mixed with Megatron using non-lethal friendship based weaponry or you know pies and transformers sized party cannons would be epic.
that depends; are you suggesting the modern post-Michael-Bay transformers or any of the pre-Michael-Bay series?
DEFIANTLY Pre-Bayveurse. Bumblebee would probably just crush the main villain, done, no plot required, roll credits.
I really hope IDW do it sometime soon
Optimus and megatron as ponies.
Back then; transformer was the better theater than my little pony, now ponies is better than robots
They have always been equal. Betterness does not exist. Stop lying to yourself.
AJ pony , AP's channel no.not really
Robot ponies!
What the hell happened!
admit it silver, you had a picture of twilight sitting optmis' hand and tried to make a video out of it.
You shall always be the king of reviewers! I look forward to your thoughts on the movie
Guys please be mindful of whoever else is watching this movie. Have some common courtesy for others theater etiquette
Please think of us poor bronies in Spain who get the film LAST in DECEMBER!
Add Latios and in a different way... Latias
I'd also add Zane from Ninjago, though the death was short-lived.
Same for a lot of these doesn't make it any less tramautic trust me
You just about killed me by pasting in the Frozen Peas rant. Well played.
I'm going to see MLP in theaters - and I intend to announce proudly that I am a Brony.
i been a Brony for a year now and i think and feel better if it was on TV becuse there is no other Brony's in home town sorry.
THANK YOU FOR DOING A REVIEW ON ONE OF MY CHILDHOOD movies! my mom grew up with it as I grew up with this movie too! By DVD!
I'm gonna be watching the MLP movie in theatres, so that way it doesn't suffer the same fate as the PowerPuff Girls movie. Though it will be nervous, cause there aren't many MLP fans around me.
WeegeeSlayer I am with ya on that since I don’t know many Mlp fans in my area either. But I still intend to see the movie as soon as possible.
Actionfan19 I wanna see it too BUT I don’t have the money to ...
Lisa Frank was a major part of my elementary school experience! I had a backpack, pencils, coloring books....
So silver quill how's your day so far?Would you review reboots that are happening and would you be sad once voice retires after the mlp movie goes to the dvd?
I'm looking forward to hearing about Silverquill's reaction to the movie itself and what it might mean for his OC.
I adore you silver ♡ thank you so much for all your videos. They are the highlights of my day :)
Totally needed to add Cleveland from Family guy in the tub falling into his front yard saying "No no no no!" at the start.
"When will then be now?"
"Soon."
...clearly Mel Brooks knew something we didn't.
Hey Silverquill, ever watch Fairly Odd Parents old episode, The Boy who would be Queen?
Almost 2 years later, & I now burst into laughter when he says “smart writing” in relation to FiM The Movie.
Silver Quill, a question: favourite Transformer of any generation?
Goodness, that's a tough call. I have my favorites in the various generations but over all time I would say Optimus Prime always shines through.
I think the guy was joking :P
There's no way cursing would fly in "MLP" lol.
:41-:52 that yugioh abridged reference had me dying XD thanks silver quill thanks.
I saw the movie last night, and I have to day, I can see why you left your hipogriff homeland
I tell people that the #1 reason why I love this show is that they don't treat their target audience, young girls, like idiots. They aren't afraid to use big words, and they aren't afraid to approach difficult subjects, with death being the only exception. (yes I know Tank hibernating was a death allegory. I don't count it as discussing death.)
When I was a child, I remember loving shows that didn't treat my like an idiot.
"...and they aren't afraid to approach difficult subjects, with death being the only exception."
Does The Perfect Pear count?
...i didnt even realize the movie release was literally tomorrow (as of comment post). Hell, none of the local theatres even advertised it.
I enjoyed seeing you on Bronies React! XD
the art helped pull me in honestly
*When you are not the only MLP and Transformers fan*
...
ALL HAIL SILVER-QUILL
If they had taken the story for the original transformers movie and transplanted it into MLP it would've been in season three Celestia dies, The big threat probably Teric would show up and Twilight would become an alicorn to combat the threat. Two seasons later and they would resurrect Celestia.
I'm glad that Hasbro learned from their mistakes and didn't kill off any characters to bring in new ones this time.
Are you ever going to review the two other equestrian girls movies?
567 likes and no dislikes,
Either TH-cam is broken or I've entered an alternate universe where people on the internet are nice.
I can't wait for your "without context " of this movie
So I'm guess we'll get another "Silver Reacts, Without Context"? Because those are amazing
Here’s the link if you want to look at yourself,
Rising Legend out!!!

How d'you feel knowing there are Hippogriffs in the movie?
Silver's gonna have a field day with them :D
hold on what
Hippogriffs.
BNuts WAIT THERE ARE OMG well thanks for the spoilers but atleast it was small but just be careful with spoilers ok
So Silver Quilll, what are your thoughts on hippogryphs now being canon?
BugsydorPrime yeah what that person said
Well said, Silverquill.
The Nightmare Rider we don't want to be man, woman or non-binary we want be human!
Then by all means do so. But just give people the basic human decency to have their gender identity treated as valid.
Very thoughtful Silver!
Um silver why won't you do season 7 of MLP there are so many episodes where characters progress
hey Silver can you make an After the Fact about how Thorax & Pharynx are the male equivalent to Celestia and Luna?
I was kind of surprised he didn't say "Roll Out" and show the "Pinkie Prime" scene from Equestria Girls
Sadly, there isn't a theater within an hour of me that will play it and I work 6 day weeks so driving that far out on a day off is out of the question.
: / Wait for the DVD release, I guess.
So we can look foward to a cast change in the show based off death?
I think you'll enjoy it :>
Silver senpai!!!!!!!!
There is a certain aspect of the movie that I'm curious on what Silver Quill's reaction to it.
I've been able to avoid spoilers so I'm so hyped!!!
One can only imagine Silver's reaction when he finds out the Macguffin of this movie is a quest to find the lost kingdom of the Hippogryphs.
Not only is his species canon, but they're a semi Deus Ex Machina in terms of importance.
Congrats Silver, your people have arrived.
:P
P.S.
Shame about them semi assassinating Twilie's character for the sake of plot development. Oh well.
I sat down to watch a movie and MLP:The Movie came up. he turned to me and shouted
"YOUR PEOPLE DID THIS!!!!"
The problem is that I would only be interested in the movie so learning about the history of Scotland would not be fulfilling at all and would, if the movie turned out to be bad, a sour experience for me making me to not want to go back there unless I had a reason or was dragged there.
is he ever going to get back to episode reviews?
Well said, I have those same thoughts!
